Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

Oh silly Cheddar Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 12/12/2023 11:44

So Penelope has put in 300g. Vet really pleased with her. Temperature normal. Slight inflammation in one ear. But no infection. Got some ear cleaner for her. She was absolutely furious about being put in her basket. Took her to visit my friend in a nursing home and got mugged!!

Hmm are you sure cheds didn't get in there and Penelope shut the door on her ?

Toddlerteaplease · 12/12/2023 16:04

Penelope was with me. 🤣

That's a grumpy looking Cheddar. If I was you I think I would be going to sleep with one eye open for the next few nights...

And has Cheddar claimed Penelope as hers? She appears to have a protective paw on her as though to say "back off, she's mine" 😂

Scampuss · 12/12/2023 17:59

Hmm. Cheddar does not look happy, and Penelope looks smug 🧐

Toddlerteaplease · 12/12/2023 18:35

Cheddar is quite happy with like. She's just stuck her backside on top of my mug. And is currently making biscuits on me and drinking on my face.

Drooling on my face that should say.

Penelope let me clean her ears out last night. The vet said they needed doing. Omg the crap that came out. It was incredibly satisfying. And must have been uncomfortable for her. Tried the drops again this morning, but she was having none of it. 😂

Gosh. Er, how does one clean a cat's ears?

Toddlerteaplease · 16/12/2023 17:37

With wipes!

Back at the vet with Penelope as there crusty rubbish coming out of her ear, hoping it's just the drops working any it's the wax coming out. But again
Away over Christmas, better get it checked.

So, her ear canals are very inflamed and looking a bit ulcerated. Poor poppet. She's going to have some anti inflammatory ear drops for two weeks. Hopefully that will sort it out. But the vet did ward that it could be a lifelong problem. But hopefully would just be a drops a couple of times a week as maintenance.

Scampuss · 19/12/2023 10:53

How annoying, hopefully the vet can shed some light on what's going on.

Scampuss · 19/12/2023 10:54

Oops, cross-posted. Oh poor Penelope, hope the drops work.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/12/2023 11:33

She thinks it's some sort of inflammatory reaction rather than infection. So she's ordered some anti Inflammatory drops. Mentioned it to the rescue who are still adamant she needs oral medication. The vet doesn't want to do that as she's not systemically unwell. Fortunately she's nine and I can follow my vets advice!

I wonder if there's an element of 'design fault' as she's so small and floofy with little ears so they're just not working properly?

SequentialAnalyst · 19/12/2023 13:35

Prompted by @Scampuss's post, I had a quick google, and cat breeds with small outer ears are indeed more prone to infection.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/12/2023 15:14

@Scampuss yes, I suspect you are right. If she had an issue that was neglected in her last home. Then it's going to be more difficult to clear up. Even when I first got her, she was asymptomatic. It's only because she's had crusty wax coming out since using the cleaning drops that I was concerned. And she is shaking her head occasionally. But she's otherwise very well in herself.

Looked up the ear drops she's been prescribed. It seems they cost about £23. They charged me £51. I will be asking why when I pick them up!

I remember nearly falling off my chair when I was charged £84 for a bottle of frusemide for Harry!

Toddlerteaplease · 19/12/2023 22:16

I can imagine!

That seems a normal mark up for vets. I think vet scripts attract VAT as well. Which drops are they? I think you can ask for a script and take it to a pharmacy and there are specialist on line pharmacies for vet scripts. I can’t remember the name.
