Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

Apparently the boy cat wouldn't be suitable for me as he needs someone at home more. So that's settled my dilemma.

Do you know any more about Pickle's backstory?

Toddlerteaplease · 02/09/2023 13:06

Nope. I'm presuming that at five, she has been retired. And she was passed into another breeder, who doesn't want/ need her. Hopefully I'll find out. I believe she was still being shown until last year. So hopefully that means she's in good health. As they have strict rules for shows.

She obviously did well judging by those rosettes - unless cat shows hand them out willy-nilly (I've never been to a cat show).

Toddlerteaplease · 02/09/2023 18:42

She's arriving Friday!! Foster to adopt, just incase it doesn't work out. But hopefully it will. I'll get her spayed and the rescue will pay for that.

She's on royal canin mum and baby as that's what she likes. But is going to have to have a fairly quick change as cheddar just doesn't tolerate royal canin. And it's way to high calorie!

Yay! Can't wait for her to arrive!

Guessing she has been used for breeding?

TheLongRider · 02/09/2023 19:37

Foster to adopt is a great way to really find out if a cat is suitable. You get to give a cat a loving home away from a shelter and if it works out, great, if not the cat can be rehomed easily.

I hope Cheddar likes her.

Apparently she's a bit shy at first but super friendly when you get to know her. Doesn't like boys but loves girls apparently. So hopefully she gets on with Cheddar, she so laid back he's horizontal . Hoping she has more concept of personal space than madam does. Can't cope with two of the pawing at my face at 3am.

Lovely white socks she has! I wonder if she has speckeldy toe-beans?

nettie434 · 03/09/2023 21:04

She does look lovely, Toddlerteaplease. Looking forward to reading your update when she arrives.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/09/2023 22:05

@FutureThroughLensOfThePast part of one I can see looks grey. I'll let you know about the rest.

Arghh! I've just discovered that unspayed cats can spray everywhere and can be really difficult! Tell me it's going to be ok!!

OP posts:
Allergictoironing · 06/09/2023 07:19

Some can, many don't. And for some who do, they stop after spaying - I think it's to do with hormones and being territorial. But do bear in mind that Girlcat was a full year old before she was spayed, and has never sprayed plus Tobias was at least 2 when he was neutered and hasn't sprayed to my knowledge.

You can only wait & see for now. The rescue should notice if she is or not especially as she would want to mark her new territory if she is inclined that way. But very placid breeds are less prone I gather?

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 06/09/2023 07:20

I think that applies more to males than females. Females only spray if they are stressed, and hopefully with a 'show girl' she won't be fazed by new surroundings and an unfamiliar cat. You can book her in for the spay ASAP - it would make sense to get it done early rather than cause disruption after she has settled.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/09/2023 09:46

Thanks thats basically what the rescue lady has said. I'm hoping to get her in next week for it. Shame my parents have moved away as they could have dropped her off when I'm working. And I'd pick her up afterwards. My vet is open till 11pm!

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 06/09/2023 09:47

The vet wouldn't book it until they'd seen her. 😬

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 06/09/2023 09:49

@Allergictoironing If she's anything like my others. She will be very placed. And all the show Persians I've seen, are extremely chilled. Hopefully it won't be for long anyway. Ideally if like her to have been done before I got her. But she might as well be fostered in her new home, than be moved again.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2023 16:49

Rescue lady has childcare issues so can't collect Penelope tomorrow. Hopefully her owner will let me pick her up direct, but she usually refuses. So she may not arrive till after next weekend. 😰😬

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2023 21:35

Hopefully arriving on Monday 18th
