Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

What are tails and ears doing? Is there hissing?

SequentialAnalyst · 10/10/2023 11:09

Sometimes it's a good sign. Some cats love a good play fight with a close feline friend. DCat even used to try to play fight with DS when he was a child, as I think she thought of him as her brother (sadly, I was the slave, though DCat and I respected each other as the only adult females in the house, and I adored her).

Must find photos which are lurking somewhere on my PC or (ulp!) Google Drive.

Pixiedust1234 · 10/10/2023 13:40

Are they fighting, playing or sorting out hierarchy? Some play can look horrendous to us humans. As pp said, what are the ears, tails and sounds? Most play fights are very very quiet.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2023 13:56

Cheddar was growling. Ears and tails normal I think. Cheddar was swiping at Penelope. No actual wrestling. Some chasing. Cheddar got her into a corner. Then I broke it up.

Hopefully just sorting out the hierarchy. They might have done it before and I've not seen it, I suppose.

I wouldn't worry about it. The tribe still occasionally have little arguments between different members, when someone has overstepped or forgotten their place. Raven is the worst for reprimanding the other cats, but even when she's at her most cantankerous and hits one of others, they usually just get out of her way then go back to ignoring her.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2023 14:21

I'm on nights and they are both on the bed demanding fuss. So hopefully all is ok again.

Purring and looking very happy with life. 🤣

And have just shared some treats as I only had one lik e lix left. Oops. Bought something else that looked the same and it's not. They won't eat them. Bad cat slave.

If a super laid back cat had another in a corner I would be assuming that little purr walrus/monster had overstepped a hidden boundary. Maybe went for the food bowl first, didn't doff her cap to the owner of human slave, or sneezed.

If they both sleep on the same bed or in the same room then I wouldn't worry too much atm. Penelope is very squèeeeeeeee looking. Perhaps Cheddar is jealous at the lack of her photos?

Possibly right @Pixiedust1234

All three look very settled whilst snoring away. I do see the hierarchy very clearly now though. Cheddar is top cat, then walrus, then Penelope.

Please inform all three that they are very very adorable ❤

Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2023 16:41

I'm trying to get Penelope to adopt the walrus toy. Obviously I am at the bottom of the hierarchy in this house. I know my place.

I am a convert! To Persians! Are they a special sort of Persian?

TBH generalising from what I know about dog breeds, I've always worried that having a flat face might cause a tendency to respiritory problems.

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 10/10/2023 17:59

My two fight periodically and have been together more than four years. I think they do it when they're bored, like I used to scrap with my sister when we were children.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2023 18:18

@SequentialAnalyst they are a wonderful breed. Only one of my four has had breathing problems. The others have not, despite having very flat faces. Cheddar has had no health issues. Magic & Maia's issues stemmed from being used as breeding queens in a kitten farm.

They are exotic shorthairs.

Allergictoironing · 10/10/2023 18:45

I wouldn't worry too much. Girlcat & Tobias were still getting growly at each other for a few weeks after introductions, and that was with him shut in one room for 4 weeks while they got used to the smell of each other.

They still do chases around the place, and Girlcat will put him in his place sometimes. But he makes growly noises instead of normal noises most of the time, he speaks with a very odd accent.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2023 19:46

It just took me by surprise as they've been rubbing along ok. Although they are now sharing a litter tray. So maybe that's the issue. Will monitor it.

I reckon if you're already getting both of them on the bed with you, you're doing fine.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2023 20:59

She sat on the bed of the sofa today as well. First time she's done that.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2023 21:55

She's started supervising me in kitchen, which is exactly what Magic used to do!

OP posts:
SequentialAnalyst · 11/10/2023 00:31

That's so nice for you both Smile

I think Magic must have briefed Cheddar on the fact that you need keeping an eye on in the kitchen, just in case it should happen that a New Cat was called on to take over the slave supervision duties 💖

It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it...

Toddlerteaplease · 11/10/2023 08:04

Came home to find Madam on the kitchen windowsill. A place no Persian has ever been. My kitchen worktops are no longer safe! They seem to have made up again, and Cheddar was sitting on the Kallax in the hall. She hasn't done that in years. Interesting....
