Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

I'll delay the metacam on Thursday until she's been seen by the vet. So the Reno won't be masked. I do suspect the problem is the teeth. I think I'll feel much bette when I've actually spoke to the rescue in person.

She's very well in herself though. Eating and drinking well. Getting more confident and less skittish. Spent most of the night on my bed.

Oh bless her.I hope that once you get her teeth sorted that will be the end of it.
It's the breeder that should be ashamed. The rescue can't be annoyed, it's not your fault.
Take care.Hope she recovers quickly

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2023 09:59

They are taking another cat from the same breeder soon. I hope the rescue give them what for.

I'm out of date on vet ops. Can someone answer my questions as posted yesterday at 22.50.?

@Toddlerteaplease kindly, don't give yourself such a hard time - you couldn't do any more if you tried - because you are already trying as hard as you can, and doing everything you can think of.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2023 10:09

@SequentialAnalyst the stitches should dissolve. Ideally she shouldn't lick it at all. It's in quite an awkward place so might be tricky for her to lick. We've tried the cone, collar and vest and are out of options.

I use a Metalcote carrier, it's the only one I 100% trust.

https://www.metalcote.co.uk/product-tag/carrier/

The website is a bit crap but they did do coloured ones too, not sure if they still do.

I picked up a fitted cover for it on Amazon, but it's easy enough to chuck a towel over it.

SequentialAnalyst · 03/10/2023 10:23

Well obviously ideally she shouldn't lick it. But how long before it wouldn't matter if she did?

I bet as it heals it itches like crazy? I had chicken pox as a child - DM told me not to scratch the spots - easier said than done. Or people in casts for a broken leg - sometimes driven crazy by the itching.

I don't know how reliable this info is, and I am definitely not a vet. I'd be interested in what those who do know think of the following (my bolding):

From this website: Why Your Cat Gives Themselves A Spit Bath (and Why It Might Be Bad For You) – Munchkin Kitten Store

While you might think your cat is just trying to be extra clean by giving themselves a good spit bath, there’s actually a reason behind this behavior. Cats have a glands in their mouths that produce saliva, and when they groom themselves, they spread that saliva all over their fur.
This saliva has a protein in it called Fel d 1, which is actually an allergen for humans. So, when your cat spits in their fur, they’re actually covering themselves in a substance that can trigger allergies in people.
Interestingly, not all cats produce the same amount of Fel d 1 in their saliva. Some breeds, like Siamese and Devon Rex, produce very little of the allergen, while others, like Persians, can produce a lot.

Despite the fact that cat saliva has antibacterial and wound-healing properties, it is impossible to conclude that cats’ tongues are clean. Because a cat’s mouth is open, it allows it to interact with a diverse range of bacteria, both good and bad. It is not true that cat saliva is clean or sterile.

I totally agree Scampuss.
My rescue cat hated the plastic cat carrier. He fought every step of the way, with teeth and claws.
I bought him the Metalcote wire carrier and it's brilliant.Having a top opening is good, and is so easy to put him in.He can see all round him, so settles down and is so good on the way to the vet.Once he's there is a different matter though😻

I'm a convert to the metal carrier too. I have so many different carriers that you "post" the cat into rather than "place" and I have scars and multiple welding gloves to prove they don't work.

I have also managed to plop two strays into the cage type very easily in the past. Mine came with a tray so the base was flat/comfortable but a piece of thin board would also do it. Then a towel over the top.

I'm wondering if her mouth issues are causing a raise in temperature. I know when I have toothache my temp is a lot higher! Fingers crossed it's that.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2023 11:35

She was fine with the picnic basket carrier. My fault for letting her know the hatch is there. I have obtained some cable ties to lock it. 😂😂

LostCats · 03/10/2023 12:36

@Clarich007 I don’t believe a word of it. Monster Chops looks like butter wouldn’t melt ❤️☺️🤣

LostCats · 03/10/2023 12:40

Messing about aside, I’m seriously going to consider getting one of those carriers. Posting my two into the carriers is less than fun and Eko HOWLS the whole way anywhere. The Cattery is 1hr away. The trauma to the ears is unreal. Boone sits and moans at him which is not helpful.

SequentialAnalyst · 03/10/2023 13:17

Can anyone confirm or deny the info I posted earlier?

I have had various cat carriers in the past. Finally cracked it when I got a top loader, and could lower cat back feet first into it, scruffed if I had to (obvs supported, as Midnight was a cat, not a kitten).

It wasn't only the cat and the loader that were the problem. I am cack-handed, and with the horrid plastic ones I tried, I found it hard to close them securely quickly enough, before she could escape back out!

Clarich007 · 03/10/2023 13:17

They are brilliant Lost Cats.
Quite big, very strong and secure.
I just put a puppy pad and a couple of blankets, or his bed inside to make it comfortable for him.For some reason he calms down immediately if he can see all round him.

Clarich007 · 03/10/2023 13:28

He's not really a monster, just a troubled little soul who has had to protect himself all his life He was born on the streets to a dumped mum cat She did her best, and fortunately my dear friend and neighbour found him. She's our local "cat lady", who has rescued and rehomed over 30 cats living in our city centre. She's amazing.
Unfortunately my boy has Calicivirus thought to be caused by untreated cat flu as a kitten.
In the photo, he was just recovering from a flare up of cat flu, you can see his eyes are a bit sore.
He had proper full blown cat flu a couple of years ago.it was horrendous.I thought he might die.
He drives us mad, caused us to shed lots of tears, has cost us a fortune in vets bills and heartache, has suffered so badly, and consequently gets ratty often
We call it his "Waffy tail moments".You know what I'm talking about !
He's had all his teeth out, numerous abscesses, chronic stomach problems for months. At one time I was in despair and asked the vet about quality of life he was so ill.
Gradually he recovered and seems fine at the moment.
This is the reality of not neutering or vaccinating I feel very strongly about it I must say.
Sorry to go on 😻

Aaahh!!! The poor little guy!!

Pixiedust1234 · 03/10/2023 15:08

My fault for letting her know the hatch is there.

Sometimes it's a great shock to realise your pet has that spark of intelligence. It's when they become devious like toddlers and you start having to actually think so you can outsmart them. I've looked after three girl cats who've kept me on my toes. All the boys (and some girls) have been either too dopey or lazy to using their brains, which bring separate challenges 😂

Scampuss · 03/10/2023 15:30

@Clarich007 aww ❤️ mine also had a troubled life, and has mostly turned into a total soppy needy (and bitey) thing, but reverts to full honeybadger feral mode when she feels cornered or trapped. Anything that reduces stress is a winner.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2023 15:39

@Pixiedust1234 she's a Persian. They are not renowned for being over endowed with brains.

It's hard isn't it Scampuss ?
For years we didn't have much of a bond either. He also goes missing all the time too, but we're getting there He does his best.
Aww glad she's mostly a soppy girl 😻

Clarich007 · 03/10/2023 16:19

How's Penelope Toddler ? Fingers crossed she's doing well 😻

I think I found her more surprising than hard tbh! I deliberately picked her as I didn't want a needy lapcat and we have loads of lovely hunting grounds here, but she had different ideas! I really don't know how she managed (and raised at least 2 kittens) in her former life as she is not a hunter and is exceptionally fussy about food.

But, and coming back to the thread topic, it is exceptionally satisfying and rewarding seeing the transformation when they start to feel safe.
