Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

Aww well done Penelope!

SequentialAnalyst · 02/10/2023 13:05

Such good news Smile

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/10/2023 13:31

One thing sorted @Toddlerteaplease. Good start 👍.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/10/2023 14:18

Just waiting to collect her.

Did you get a vest? Or is it the dreaded cone of shame!!

Toddlerteaplease · 02/10/2023 15:26

Vest but she's already got her leg stuck in it as it's too big. And she's not tolerating it. So I've taken it off. Didn't tolerate the cone of shame either. I've got an inflatable collar so will try that. She's doing what young children do when they've woken up from surgery. They get hysterical and just need another sleep to calm them down.

I asked them to look in her ears to see how long to continue the drops for. But they haven't. So that will mean paying for yet another consultation.

Aww bless her, I hope she settles down and has lots of cuddles. She looks quite long in that photo!

Toddlerteaplease · 02/10/2023 15:55

She's currently on the wardrobe. Hopefully having a sleep.

If you asked them to look in her ears, and there was no good reason why they didn't, then I think they owe you a free consultation.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/10/2023 18:16

Yes, I will mention it. I'm really annoyed! I've offered to pay for the consultation. I know she's not my responsibility at the minute. But I'm finding this whole situation stressful (I'm normally fairly chilled) and don't want to keep asking for money. So she's cost me £100 so far. But I suppose I am getting a bargain really.

Well that didn't work either. She got her leg stuck within 2 minutes..

I know I shouldn't laugh, but Grin

RumNotRun · 02/10/2023 20:24

Oh look at her little face! She is so adorable but I foresee much mischief in her future.

SequentialAnalyst · 02/10/2023 20:26

I've had a little chuckle too, @Scampuss
I hope she at least realises that your intentions are good and it was all in a good cause. But probably not!

Toddlerteaplease · 02/10/2023 22:20

I tried her wearing the vest as a t shirt with the legs cut off, which was more successful. But not really covering the sound. And she was getting very hot!

Do the stitches dissolve? How long before she won't need help to not lick it. IYSWIM? Not sure Midnight the beloved even had a cone of shame when she was spayed - but that was a very long time ago...

Clarich007 · 02/10/2023 23:28

Sounds stressful Toddler.
Is it putting you off adopting her ?
Hope she recovers quickly.
Hope gorgeous Cheddar is ok too.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2023 06:25

It's not quite what I signed up for, and the rescue knew I wanted a healthy cat. However they didn't realise that she'd have so many issues either.
It's the ongoing temperature that concerns me. It had come down by itself last week. But was raised again yesterday, although she was very unimpressed about being taken to the vet again. So could have been that. And I'm presuming it was rechecked post op and no concerns were raised.
She's already cost me £100 as I don't feel I can keep asking for money. Even though technically it's not my responsibility. And I'm worried that the rescue will be annoyed at me, though none of this is my fault.
It is making me think twice, but she's a lovely little thing. And seems calmer already. She's spent most of the night on the bed.

Need to get some cable ties and pith them round the hatch in the carrier. As she can break out of it. I'm astounded by this and that she appears to have more than one brain cell.

Bagpuss1200 · 03/10/2023 07:59

Aww glad she had a good night! I do hope you keep her she's such a character! Gizmo is also a bit of a houdini so I bought this carrier and it's been much less stressful taking her to the vets! https://www.amazon.co.uk/DONYER-POWER-Carrier-Approved-Backpack/dp/B07917CCFD/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=Soft%2BSided%2BCat%2BCarrier&qid=1696316262&sr=8-9&th=1

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 03/10/2023 08:03

Clever cats are a delight once they trust you. But you do have find ways to outwit them when it comes to vet visits and medication.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/10/2023 08:15

There is no reason for the rescue to be annoyed with you.

Any other fosterer would have asked for the money.

Can you contact the vet and ask for her vitals (temp) post-op?

I think you also need to nail down the reason for the temp before making any decisions and you also need to get the teeth sorted (and you should not have to pay for this).

My concern is that there is an underlying reason for the temp and/or that the teeth are a bigger problem than anticipated (I'm wondering about gum/jaw infections).
