Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

I don't know what else I can do. Her ears are improving. Hardly any crap came out this time. Wish I'd given her the metacam this morning. But held off because they would give her it as an injection. Honestly I just wanted to cry. I'm sick of going back and forth to the vet and being stuck in the middle. I'm not doing this again.

This is turning into a I know best. But actually have no medical knowledge. And it's no good for Penelope. Going to have to be careful with her. She broke out of her Carrier while I was leaning on it!

This would also enrage me, Toddler.

LostCats · 25/09/2023 11:22

Oh Toddler, I’m so sorry.

Scampuss · 25/09/2023 11:51

I would be annoyed too. The vet is the only one qualified to make the call, and this is fairly basic vet care.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/09/2023 11:59

I've used this vet a long time. I trust their judgement.

I was so cross I forgot to ask for the blue light discount. 😂

Any chance the rescue could talk to the vet directly?

Toddlerteaplease · 25/09/2023 12:30

They spoke to the vet nurse. Neither side will budge. They suggested she speak to the practice manager. But she was just getting on a plane. She'll talk when she gets back. I did ask Scott giving her a shot of antibiotics to keep her happy . But the vets are (quite rightly) told not to give in to what the client wants.

My friend suggested Judy get it done and we'd find a way to pay for it. But she'd explicitly refused consent. So we couldn't. Toying with just adopting her but it would wipe out most of my savings.

The last two visits the vet got loads of rubbish out of her ear. This time we agreed that if it was out of our own ears we'd feel we'd wasted the cotton bud.

Oh, @Toddlerteapleasewhat an absolute nightmare SadAngry

(After a few days absence, I've only just caught up on the Cat Appreciation Thread, which is how I found this one.)

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/09/2023 13:32

Toying with just adopting her but it would wipe out most of my savings.

I'm hard-hearted but I really would not do this.

SequentialAnalyst · 25/09/2023 13:54

I'm afraid I agree with @YetAnotherSpartacus , although I understand where you're coming from, @Toddlerteaplease , of course I do, and obviously so does everyone on here.

@YetAnotherSpartacus you are not hard hearted, you are clear sighted, and pragmatic.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/09/2023 13:57

Yes. Spartacus is right. It's really frustrating and not in her best interests. But I have no choice but to persevere. The ears are improving and they said to give metacam on the morning of surgery. They got loads of pus and rubbish out on Friday. But hardly any today.

cross-post

keeping everything crossed

Toddlerteaplease · 25/09/2023 13:59

She also needs to provide solid evidence on why oral antibiotics are best practice. The drops she's on have antigfungal and antibiotics on them. And metacam is a good anti inflammatory, despite her saying it's just ibuprofen. Which is a bloody good drug!

Toddler, I'm really worried that Penelope might have other underlying issues. What do you think? After Fatty and Snorg do you really want the financial burden again and will insurance cover treatments if they are pre-existing?

Toddlerteaplease · 25/09/2023 14:10

@YetAnotherSpartacus yes I'm
worried about that too. And the whole point of having her. Was because she'd been a show cat and therefore should be in good health. She was wining rosettes 18 months ago. Am actually amazed she's unwell as, although she's very nervous. She's very bright and alert and I suspect is going to be a handful.

I have a really good relationship with the rescue and don't want it to break down over this.

People who rescue cats sadly have to accept that we can't save them all. BrewBrew

Toddlerteaplease · 25/09/2023 14:16

I'm hoping that this is due to neglect and that once we can get passed this. She'll have a long and happy life.

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/09/2023 14:16

I can imagine how stressful it is and I really feel for you. However, you have done a lot for the rescue by taking on two very hard-to-place cats and you gave them both amazing lives - but at massive expense to you (although they, of course, gave so much back). You fostered because you were worried about 'best fit' with you and Cheddar and if Penelope isn't 'best fit' then I am sure that there will be another doting owner ready to take her on.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/09/2023 14:23

I think if this is going to be ongoing, then yes I do need to be hard hearted. To be fair to the rescue, they weren't expecting this either.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 25/09/2023 14:23

We thought she might have ear mites and we knew she nodded a spay. But a dental want on the radar as she's only 3
