Thanks all for the kind words and the advice. I ordered ice packs from Amazon yesterday and they arrived today, and I'll definitely keep on top of painkillers. I will take any advice at the moment. Scared my 8 year old today because I was in such a state with it. Ankle is now crazy colours spreading halfway up my leg, but it's still the ribs causing the worst pain. Tramadol finally arrived and is taking the edge off. Don't know why I'm wittering on about it in here, nothing to do with cats, sorry!

bonfirebash · 07/07/2023 20:28

Shady was in the garden and admired by someone walking past
He responding by flopping over, belly up and demanding belly rubs
Person walking past "well that's not a trap. Unlike my cat"

Shady is way happy 😃

Papergirl1968 · 07/07/2023 21:33

That is not a cat @TheBalletCats - that is a lion cub surely?!
I winced too at seeing your ankle @coastergirl We're here for you. You all listened to my ramblings when I was off my face on liquid morphine (now that really is good stuff) after my neurosurgery.
I hope you can have a good holiday @TheShellBeach A break will do you good.

coastergirl · 07/07/2023 15:51

The ankle is actually really not bothering me, it's the ribs. Never felt pain like it 😢

That looks really painful @coastergirl

I broke three ribs a few years ago and the physio recommended holding a pillow to them if I had to cough or even worse sneeze. They were unbelievably painful and you have my sympathy.

FiveShelties · 08/07/2023 04:50

@TheShellBeach I am so sorry to read of the loss of your gorgeous cat. It is such a horrible experience to lose a much loved pet.

Allergictoironing · 08/07/2023 09:00

To add to TheBalletCats excellent advice above, you may want to schedule taking your meds at different times e.g. if the Tramadol is 3x per day, take that at morning, middle of the day & last thing, say 7am, 2pm & just before bed, and the Naproxen I think is usually twice a day so take that at 10-11am and 5-6pm.

Regarding the gin, be careful about drinking that when on Tramadol! Then again, the combined effects of Tramadol & gin may help with sleep 😁

LostCats · 08/07/2023 10:00

Ooh. Do be careful on tramadol and gin. I made that error once. The complete garbage I was talking, even I was surprised 😆

coastergirl · 08/07/2023 10:04

You're all fab with advice, thank you. The tramadol is 4x a day so hopefully I can keep on top of the pain. I think it may have been somebody else who mentioned gin though, I can't stand spirits. I did have a couple of glasses of wine last night though and slept really well.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/07/2023 10:25

@coastergirl I'm afraid I'd be rubbish at medical advice (although the wine sounds good 😁) - but sending best wishes & hope you get better soon.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/07/2023 10:32

As an aside - I'm cat sitting TC this weekend. Went in this morning and gave him a pouch. He then jumped down from his 'feeding perch', and went to his food cupboard demanding a second. After he inhaled his second pouch he went back to the cupboard again asking for a third 🙀. I picked him up and threw him outside. He's now outside our back door wanting to break in and nick our food...

He might actually be related to Paws
Paws arrived, ate the leftovers, then some raw food then rummaged in the bin and emerged triumphantly with a flatbread Confused which I removed from him. Shady was Shock oh he NAUGHTY

coastergirl · 08/07/2023 11:29

Haha Paws 😂 I find these hungry cats funny because Walter is not food motivated at all!

TheShellBeach · 08/07/2023 14:01

I had quite a lot of Tobermory gin last night, plus magnesium capsules, which have been recommended loads of times on menopause threads on MN.
They are supposed to help with sleep.

I am very post-menopausal and on prescribed HRT already, but I added the magnesium (and gin, which the doctor did NOT prescribe) and do not actually remember getting up and feeding Linney.

I must have done so because the window to the garden was open...............and the feeding bowl was licked clean, which suggests that Picard came in for a second breakfast.

Picard lives down the road and likes eating Linney's left-overs. He tried to eat Emerald's, too, but she used to hiss and growl at him when he did.

Linney is far more laid back.

Linney was looking a bit bewildered yesterday evening.
He was looking around, slowly. He ended up hiding under the table in the sitting room.

He stood at the window and looked out into the garden. I am sure he was wondering where Emerald was.
Poor old boy.

I'd better not shut the greenhouse door Grin

TheShellBeach · 08/07/2023 17:59

Why do they love sitting on mounds of earth?
So many cats do it.
Confused

The black trug also has earth in it Confused

YesItsMeIDontCare · 08/07/2023 18:53

Why do they love sitting on mounds of earth?

Nice and warm I would imagine, specially in a greenhouse. Quite why they do it on a baking hot day whilst wearing fur coats is utterly beyond me 😁

TheLongRider · 08/07/2023 19:03

I concur with the mound of earth cat bed. My fluffiest boy loves sleeping on a planter full of earth. Maybe it's a throwback to cats' desert heritage.

coastergirl · 08/07/2023 19:59

Walter's quite partial to a plant pot too.

Allergictoironing · 08/07/2023 20:01

I just discovered Girlcat and Tobias in a position very unbecoming to a pair of neutered cats! He was lying on top of her, and pinning her by the back of the neck - classic mating position. Except he was a little too far up her body so his functional bits will have been forward of her tail.

She was just lying there tolerating it, then when I came along she voiced a protesting squeak & got up from under him. Oh the joys of a late-neutered ex-Tom!

RumNotRun · 09/07/2023 10:28

I made pork with a jerk, honey, and ginger marinade yesterday. I left two of the loin chops on the hob, covered with a big pan lid as they were too warm to put in the fridge. Came down this morning, only one chop left. Somebody (my suspicions are that it was Frankenstein) had managed to get up on the side, squeeze past the mixer and other things blocking access to the hob, move the heavy pan lid and steal a chop.

There were no remnants left, despite the marinade having scotch bonnet chillis in it. Clearly SOMEBODY likes spicy food. He is lying next to me at the moment, the picture of innocence!

So innocent looking!
