Scruffy boy! Shady is rolling round for belly rubs

That second photo makes it look like you've interrupted a secret meeting

JoanOgden · 05/06/2023 18:56

Yes - I'd be seriously afraid if I were you Grin

Astrid is still very much worshipped as a god, thank you very much 🤣

Oh Astrid is gorgeous. I'm not surprised you are worshipping Astrid. Is Astrid a Maine Coon?

bonfirebash · 06/06/2023 08:14

What does a cat lip licking mean? Wondering if it's nervous? Shady does it quite a lot

Florissante · 06/06/2023 08:59

It could mean that there's something wrong with his mouth. Or is it associated with any behaviours?

Supersimkin2 · 06/06/2023 09:48

He’s peckish.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/06/2023 10:18

When does he do it?

My boy really likes a good, loud slurpy wash. It's disgusting.

coastergirl · 06/06/2023 10:42

@YetAnotherSpartacus I thought Walter was the only one. Really loud slurps that sound almost like farts at times. Aren't cats supposed to be graceful? Walter missed the memo.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/06/2023 13:44

There are definitely loud snorts involved!

It doesn't seem like that kind of lick... the only way I can describe it is it's really quick, almost like if a human had a habit/tic

Imagine a normal cat after they've eaten their food or with food stuck in their teeth, not like that Grin like a quick "got something stuck on my nose"

Florissante · 06/06/2023 14:27

It may be just that - a tic or habit. If his breath doesn't smell bad (not a cat food smell but a smell of decay) or he doesn't exhibit any anxiety behaviours, it may be just Shady being Shady.

bonfirebash · 06/06/2023 15:16

He has to have his vaccine in a few weeks so I'll ask them to have a quick look at his mouth while he's there
It seems more like a nervous tic than anything else I think

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2023 19:28

After admiring the photos of the super smooth and suave Shady, I couldn't help noticing this evening that two of our cats are really quite fluffy 🤣

There's a small gathering in the garden...

If this was on AIBU and the photo was of people with the same expression, the voting results would be 87%, you are entitled to feel hurt you weren't invited, 13% you are unreasonable to think you should have been invited, made up of a random collection of people who pressed the wrong button, people telling you off for not joining the meeting anyway, and people saying you need to stick up for yourself more.

bonfirebash · 06/06/2023 21:07

The licking is definitely a nervous tic! I opened the door before and he was peering around it doing the lick loads

Allergictoironing · 06/06/2023 21:17

I would guess that most of the time when he does it now it'll be force of habit. A nervous cat, who isn't sure of his environment, is very unlikely to writhe around on the floor demanding belly rubs!

Girlcat occasionally does the little flick of her tongue thing, in her case when she thinks there's treats of some kind on the horizon.

bonfirebash · 06/06/2023 21:57

He's ventured out today, I went in the garden with him for 5 mins and he came back in for treats. Was a total wuss and not wanting to be outside. Paws has been in twice, I used da bird toy with shady while paws had some food and no hissing

Florissante · 07/06/2023 07:21

It's probably just as well that he doesn't want to be outside as there are fewer chances of him being injured.

And hooray for no hissing! I'd like Shady and Paws to be friendly, if not totally friends.

Supersimkin2 · 07/06/2023 10:36

Morning campers. I have put on a pound from efficient work as NMC. Chicken tonight!

Florissante · 07/06/2023 12:12

And I'd like you all to know that I'm not greedy. At all. That pound just gained itself.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/06/2023 12:29

Just like the food leapt from Super's hand the plate straight into my mouth.

Supersimkin2 · 07/06/2023 15:43

As it happens Havelock gets locked out at mealtimes cos too fat to lift now.

He doesn’t take banishment lying down and opens windows with child lock using huge paw.
