It sounds like Tobias and Girlcat have developed a great bond, Allergic

Allergictoironing · 28/05/2023 12:00

I actually saw them touching noses the other day, so sweet!

Florissant · 28/05/2023 15:34

That's great news. Now Tobias just needs to learn to relax around humans.

TheLongRider · 28/05/2023 19:10

Praise to Girlcat for bonding with Tobias. I think she really values his presence. Now she just needs to tell him that the human is very nice too.

coastergirl · 28/05/2023 19:39

Look at Walter. Isn't he just SO graceful and dignified? 😂😻

Nah - if she does that she'll have to share me with him

Walter's face Grin

Shady is BEAUTIFUL 😻

Squidge has met a new neighbour from downstairs, Shadow. He's about a year old and is a proper big eared teeny tiny heartbreaker. He's only started going out a few days back, and cries when he's past his flat door until either me, his dad, Squidge or another neighbouring cat appear.

Squidge seems undecided as to whether she wants to be best pals so far - there has been some v vocal singing on her part from underneath the garden bench.

Here is another of the daft sod. He's lovely but he has a very little brain

I love all the photos!

Walter, you are so handsome you don't need a brain.

RumNotRun · 29/05/2023 09:10

I have a new ornament in my bathroom. She sometimes moves onto my shoulders, digging in with her claws if I dare to move. Alternatively she likes to curl up in my trousers while I am sitting on the toilet. Her sleeping place makes it v awkward and dangerous to flush the toilet as I have to put my hand under her to reach the flush.

That Kindle looks vulnerable to me!

You are very trusting :)

RumNotRun · 29/05/2023 11:55

She was very good and didn't push the kindle off, however everything on my bathroom windowsill has been pushed on the floor.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 29/05/2023 12:11

Apt book title too:)

Another baby step for Tobias. I was on the PC in the study gaming, when I finished and went back to the living room I was greeted by this sight.

He did silently get down and leave the room, but only after I'd sat down on the sofa for a few minutes.

Bless him, he's getting there, Allergic.

I remember just how long it took with Boycat & Girlcat when they came home all those years ago; I can't do any less for poor little Tobias. It's only been 3 months so far, and I gather he had a pretty bad time of it before the rescue, so all in all I'm pretty pleased with his progress to date.

I'm happy that he's getting on OK with Girlcat and she's getting on with him, which is the most important thing. Anything I get from him is a bonus. And he's SUCH a handsome chap - I'm starting to think he's got a bit of British Shorthair in him - stocky build wit shortish legs, very short nose, and a very thick plushy coat.

You're right, he's very handsome indeed.
And yes, cats who have had a difficult start in life do take a very long time to gain confidence.
We've had rescue cats who have taken some months to settle in.

Allergictoironing · 29/05/2023 17:52

Took me 6 months before I could touch Girlcat, and a further 6 before I could touch Boycat. And though they were ex-feral, they were just very very shy.

Tobias is a different case in that he was a stray, and had clearly been starving when he was brought in. I'd guess he'd lost all trust in humans, which is much harder to regain than to build in the first place. The fact that he'd not been neutered leads me to believe that his original owners can't have been ideal either. He will take his own time to settle to me and that's fine, he has every right to be wary and I feel he will come round eventually even if it takes years

TheShellBeach · 29/05/2023 18:18

I think Tobias is showing good signs that he's really starting to trust you, Allergic.

Our cat Buster was a very small stray and he was terrified for ages after we got him.

We actually had him for seven years before he died, and it was always impossible to catch him. He never lost that fear, poor little fellow.

All the same, he was happy to sit with us and lie on our bed. He just never got used to being handled.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/05/2023 18:09

There's clearly something interesting outside 😁

Longcat is long!

Squidge is in a sulk on the steps because she's reached her Dreamies allowance limit for today.

Allergictoironing · 30/05/2023 19:09

Girlcat learned that she gets her allocated treats at the relevant times, and that's it. Getting up in the morning Dreamies (3), Webbox stick (0.5) when I get home, remainder of stick when I eat dinner, 12 Dreamies at bedtime (3 downstairs, the rest doled out as three then 2s when I'm in bed).

Doesn't stop her asking to try anything I'm eating, but unless that's certain cold meats she ignores it.

Shady had just moved right in, hasn't he?

Very easy-going boy. He's a lovely shape, too.

NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS

Emerald and Linney had their jabs today and she has lost another 300g.

Cat Slimming World has finally worked. She only weighs 5.5 kg now, which is still fairly big, but she's lost a total of 1000g.

WOO HOO Well done, Emerald!

Now I just need to lose an equivalent amount of weight
