Sad cat alone

Up my lane is a house where a cat sits in the "garden" surrounded by rubbish, cat crates, litter. It's there every day, rain or shine. The "garden" is a shithole tbh.

Cat and I are friends. I've knocked on the house repeatedly, windows open etc - no reply.

Tonight the cat is coated in paint. I've picked him (?) up and carried him home. He's stuffing his face in the spare bedroom and my two resident cats are sniffing the door

Should I alert eg RSPA or g back to the house and remonstrate?

This cat is mangy, left out in the pissing rain, I swear it's been dumped.

Can you keep him?

isitfridayyet22 · 04/09/2022 20:22

He/she would be staying poor thing

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 04/09/2022 20:25

That makes me so cross. Please keep him if you can. Rescue centres are overflowing with dumped animals.

HMSSophia · 04/09/2022 20:26

He's a bit old I think, and he m worried that the rspca might put him down. He's such a sad old boy. Purrs like a train. Stole the fish from my fish and chip supper! When I sat down to share with him

But again my q is, do rescues put old mangy cats down ? I have two rescues don't want another but no way would I let this one die

Well sometimes OP we have to tolerate things we don't want. You have to keep Puss 😊

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 04/09/2022 20:27

Sadly I think the answer to your question is yes they will - rspca have been known to do this.

Isaidnoalready · 04/09/2022 20:30

Rspca will put the cat "out of there misery" as they say because they will be a drain on resources

See if the cat has a chip? We have a crazy cat lady local who has a scanner and will pop out and see if your found cat has an owner or not could you ask on Facebook if you have similar locally?

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 04/09/2022 20:31

Sadly, especially right now, they probably will. The 'no kill' shelters are rammed.

have you been able to remove the paint??

if you've got 2, would one more really make much difference?

I'd feed him & let him decide if he wants to stay... once I'd locked all the doors & windows 🤣🤣

polkadotpixie · 04/09/2022 20:31

Please keep him! Poor old boy deserves a happy and loved end to his days

MermaidEyes · 04/09/2022 20:33

Tbh if you really can't keep him then consider taking him to a local smaller private rescue centre or foster cat carer rather than the RSPCA. However, sounds like he's already settling in nicely at yours....

HMSSophia · 04/09/2022 20:33

I have a happy pair - boy from rescue (love of my life) and girl from kitten (beautiful and heart lifting) and I'm anxious about breaking their strong loving bond.

Ideally I'd like old boy not to live with us.

If the options are, give to RSPCA and he dies, or keep him, I'd keep him

But ideally I'd rehome him :(

If it was me I would keep him and give him the very best life I could in the time he has left, thank you OP for showing him some human kindness which has probably very scant in his life.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 04/09/2022 20:37

But op, YOU are The Chosen One...

TwoMonthsOff · 04/09/2022 20:38

Keep him 😻
can you cut the paint off his fur ? Probably easiest

lollipoprainbow · 04/09/2022 20:38

Please keep him 😢😢

CatChant · 04/09/2022 20:43

Poor boy. Thank you for not walking past him OP.

Hillrunning · 04/09/2022 20:43

Adding a third cat could lead to 3 really unhappy cats so I understand your concern. I'd say step one if to find out if he has any owners, they might be shit but not sure stealing a cat is a good step. I'd not make any decisions until I worked out if he had a family.

How do you remove paint from a cat?

Iamacatslave · 04/09/2022 20:44

Generally older cats are more difficult to re home. Thank you for looking out for this cat. I think he has chosen you to be his new owner.

Takingabreakagain · 04/09/2022 20:45

Do you have a local post and found pets on Facebook? Near me the admins have access to scanners so you don't need to try and get him to a vet. They can also offer advice on rehoming or smaller rescues that might have space

HMSSophia · 04/09/2022 20:46

@Hillrunning I agree. I'll knock and bang tomorrow until they answer. He's been "abandoned" in their front garden for months. Honestly I've watched him for weeks, he's in their front "garden" (dump) rain or shine, Depending on what they say I'll take him to the vets. Oh bloody hell.

Poor boy :(

But it is unanimous- you need to keep Fish the Sad Cat and love him til the end of his days :)

Look at that sad fur

mountainsunsets · 04/09/2022 21:08

If he's used to living outside can you not keep him as an outdoor cat with access to food and water, and maybe shelter in the shed or similar?

I couldn't abandon him. RSPCA would almost certainly have him put to sleep.

HMSSophia · 04/09/2022 21:12

That's a strong message that rspca = early death. I'll take some action tomorrow and update. Tbh I'm so relieved he's indoors, face full of cat food, and comfy spare bed to sleep on.
