HELP!! Being held to ransom by a stray cat

this sounds ridiculous but I don't know what to do. I'll start off by saying I have lived with cats on and off for last 30 years so am experienced cat wrangler Grin

I have two cats who mostly stay indoors but like a bit sniff about every day in our garden . The last few weeks have seen a small entire tom visiting which they didn't like one bit- lots of stands offs in the garden. After lots of enquiries and he wasn't claimed we trapped him & got him neutered. Have done this many times over the years with strays.

Kept him in shed overnight to recover and after a feed took him to a farm several miles away- know the people there and they are willing to let ferals & strays live in barn etc

10 days later he turns up at the back door again!!!! However he is becoming increasingly aggressive and our cats are frightened to go out. They aren't the only ones as he also goes for me each time I'm out and has made a mess of my legs as he launches himself at me clawing away. My legs are terrible this morning as even with jeans on he's shredded them! Bloody hurt I can tell you

We still have the trap but even though he's been obviously very hungry he won't go inside.
He's there all the time

Well done for getting him neutered. However you can't just release a cat in a new place and expect it to stay there. What sort of pen did they have to keep him in? And the minimum time to keep a cat enclosed before releasing in a new environment is three weeks - so they obviously didn't do that. There is no point taking him back to the farm unless all that is taken care of.

You are being kept ransom in your own house by a cat? Surely any animal that attacks you in your own garden gets destroyed?

TiddyTid · 03/01/2021 11:24

You cut his balls off, he's obviously hunted you down Grin

Water pistol Grin

FadedRed · 03/01/2021 11:52

I hope you are getting those wounds looked at? The inflammation would indicate an infection that needs treatment, usually antibiotics. Cat scratches can be serious, as you would know as an experienced cat-wrangler.

Gatekeeper · 03/01/2021 11:53

I am impressed, its 14 miles..he is making rather an impression on my poor legs though. The swine had some roast beef last night as well

Have you contacted any local cat charities, Cats Protection etc to see if any are able to help with a stray/feral relocation? I think you might need some extra help with this one, he sounds feisty.

Gatekeeper · 03/01/2021 11:57

I will be ringing GP 8 am tomorrow regarding the latest bloodbath. In the meantime I am having to take a rubber broom outside each time to scoot him away. My husband thinks its funny Hmm as it leaves him alone. Pah

Just winced at your poor leg - ouch! Water pistol - he should get the message. Failing that - if you catch him again what about taking to a shelter?

VettiyaIruken · 03/01/2021 11:59

You took away his love spuds.
He's going to kill you.

Gatekeeper · 03/01/2021 12:00

He is being fed-twice a day- and we've got a shelter for him but the aggression has ramped up. Shame as he's only young according to the vet at around 1.5

There really isn't such a thing as stray/feral relocation. A very, very small number of charities (including ours) do it, but only in the most exceptional circumstances (where the ferals are in clear and severe danger) as it is very difficult indeed to find anywhere to relocate them to. A few small farms, stables etc will occasionally take on a few neutered ferals, but compared to the number of ferals needing such places it's really a drop in the ocean. And then the charity needs to provide settling in pens and advice, as well as follow up vet care including retrapping if necessary. All in all what I'm trying to say is that it's unlikely to be an option in this case.

The OP did however somehow find a farm willing to take him, but it seems they didn't have the right setting in set-up/advice.

Gatekeeper · 03/01/2021 12:02

Shelters here wont take strays, only pets that are no longer wanted/owners died etc

He will almost certainly calm down over time, particularly now he's neutered (and of course it takes around three weeks for the hormones to wear off - how long ago was he done?)

Branleuse · 03/01/2021 12:05

congratulations on your new cat

And just what do you think a shelter would be able to do with an aggressive feral?
espressoontap · 03/01/2021 12:17

@thecatneuterer oh I don't know - rehome once calmed down? A rescue I know of rehome outside cats to farms etc - I know this has been done and he came back but one further a field could be the answer.

No need for your sarky response.

Gatekeeper · 03/01/2021 12:24

He was done 1st December

Wear welly boots when you go outside!

My old cat had been a feral kitten & I had to wear Uggs in the house to protect my legs for ages.
