Batshit when you consider how many cats end up in the wrong sort of home.

I see it all the time on the Bengal welfare pages. Some idiot decided it’s fine to put a Bengal into a house with two established moggy females & then rehome the 6 month old kitten when it tries to establish dominance. It’s a good job they switched the comments function off because the temptation to type “cat proof your garden you fuckwits” is overwhelming.

Supersimkin2 · 15/07/2020 17:24

Wise and true @Fluffycloudland77

There's a Bengal going free up the road. She's timid, and her DSis is not.

Justonedayatatime11 · 15/07/2020 17:26

I did wonder if maybe a Bengal would teach Charlie so manners, but then came to the conclusion I'd probably just end up with 2 lunatics, instead of just one.
I'm irrationally upset over this and I don't really know why. Gratuitous pic of the doofus looking after me earlier

Bengals are the husky’s of the cat world. Their worst nightmare would be another 12 cats who won’t move out.

Small dog possibly better. But then you’ve got to walk it & that’s not as much fun as they make it look.

Justonedayatatime11 · 15/07/2020 19:38

Would love a dog Fluffy (ignore the fact my dog of choice would be a greyhound). But the cats are used to having the whole garden to roam in and it would be unfair to suddenly remove that from them!

Justonedayatatime11 · 15/07/2020 19:40

I'm not just looking to add another cat for the sake of it. Charlie is bored and because he's bored he's destructive, normally to DH. He jumps on him from the floor and although he's only playing, he rips poor DH to shreds by trying to jump and climb on him!

Supersimkin2 · 15/07/2020 20:12

He'll get his playmate, never you fret.

Retired greyhounds eat like horses and weigh 10 stone.

Came down this morning to a rather messy (more than usual I mean) living room - the term "wrecked" wouldn't be that far from the truth about 1 corner. Stuff pulled/fallen from the bottom 2 shelves of the cd/dvd/junk bookcase, food dishes out of position, pile of magazines knocked over. Even a cardboard box containing the full set of Phillipa Gregory Plantagenet and Tudor novels (recent lockdown binge read, about 15 large paperbacks, so not light!) had been pushed a few inches.

Then I remembered - I had seen Girlcat excitedly following a large House Spider across the floor just before I went to bed, who vanished under aforementioned bookcase (sigh).

YesItsMeIDontCare · 16/07/2020 09:15

Who wrecked it then? Girlcat or the spider? Large house spider sounds big enough to move a box of books...

QueenCT · 16/07/2020 09:21

Ollie is throwing a whining tantrum. He's ONLY had a pouch and a half between 7am and now so he's obviously starving. And can't possibly eat the full bowl of dry food

Papergirl1968 · 16/07/2020 09:29

It’s obviously the day for naughty cats. My two were tearing up and down the stairs at 4am. Then Matt started to howl for food at the top of his voice.

QueenCT · 16/07/2020 09:30

He's eating me out house and home. Last zooplus order was £60 Blush
At least paws eats dry...

Allergictoironing · 16/07/2020 10:14

Yes definitely Girlcat, probably with the assistance of her brother.

I have a suspicion the spider survived the night, as they were more interested in the piles of crap Useful Things under the coffee table than their breakfast this morning. However they have given up & gone up to bed, as I keep spending time out in the garden talking to the guys who are de-wilding the front.

Had a bit of excitement though. Sudden massive clouds of black smoke coming from the main road down the hill - apparently some poor woman's dashboard just went up in smoke in front of her eyes as she was driving along! Latest report from a neighbour who went past was that bits of the car had melted into the road and the Fire Bregade were trying to scrape it off.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/07/2020 10:47

I’ve read those books. They’re my guilty pleasure. I read factual books too though.

Didn’t manage Ulysses but there you go.

Allergictoironing · 16/07/2020 10:59

Somewhere, hiding in one of about 50 assorted cardboard boxes heaped haphazardly in the "junk" room, is an almost complete set of Georgette Heyer that I fancy getting out to read while half watching the cricket (weather depending). Trouble is, I doubt the tatty remains of my back will last longer than about 3 minutes in there at a time.

Cats are fascinated (Girlcat) and terrified (Boycat). They both came back down & were watching the gardeners with interest. Then senior gardener started trimming the large gangly shrub right outside Boycat's window. Cue fleeing at light speed, while Girlcat watched him with a supercilious expression.

Papergirl1968 · 16/07/2020 11:45

Another Philippa Gregory fan here.
Matt has just got up after keeping me awake half the night!

Allergictoironing · 16/07/2020 12:14

I think I like Philippa Gregory because she makes it very clear in her afterwords what is historical fact, and what is her read on things & supposition. Example being the various thoughts around the princes in the tower - we don't know the facts & she makes that clear, but bases the relevant books around what she feels was most likely.

Many "pure" historians dislike her intensely; I reckon because she has made a fortune out of her novels and most of them are on academic salaries only so jealous as all hell Grin

QueenCT · 16/07/2020 12:14

I've just done my family tree with ancestry which was fascinating

Supersimkin2 · 16/07/2020 18:31

I lerve PG too, nothing better. The book on Katharine Parr (the King's Curse) was insanely good.

Come on @QueenCT, we want to hear all about the Queen dynasty. Um, at which point does the Norse goddess Freya appear? She was driven around by two dark cats Grin

QueenCT · 16/07/2020 19:02

Sadly no real skeletons. Appears we are northern to the bone. Except for my mums grandad who was born in Barbados. And black. Which came as a surprise but explains the dark colouring on that side!

Supersimkin2 · 16/07/2020 20:21

Yayayay!! A distinguished pedigree.

Wouldn't it be fascinating to do it on Ollie....

Papergirl1968 · 16/07/2020 20:41

So your great grandad was black, yet you have reddish hair and very pale skin? That’s amazing!

QueenCT · 16/07/2020 21:22

@Papergirl1968 oops - I skipped a generation! My mums great grandad Grin
I also found a photo of her grandad so son of the one born in Barbados. Her side of the family is very very dark - olive skin, brown eyes

Papergirl1968 · 16/07/2020 22:18

Genes are amazing!
And I agree it would be great to be able to do kitty DNA tests. Who knows what we might discover about whose cat was related to whose!🙀

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/07/2020 11:49

That's pretty exciting Queen!

I hope that Charlie finds another playmate, poor love.

Also, the Very Reverend Robert Willis nearly loses it this time and nearly cracks a smile!
