I think I may have just been discriminated against on the basis of age Sad.

Applied for a job, where my experience is such that the only complaint they could have is that I know more than they would need for the role (pensions assistant for an educational trust - done plenty of pensions admin including working with clients in the 2 specific schemes all their staff are in).

Not even selected for interview, no reason given. Angry

Papergirl1968 · 11/08/2020 12:03

Allergic, I'm just finishing an employability course, by video conferencing, and they told us that the initial sift is often done by a computer which will look for certain key words relating to the essential criteria in terms of qualifications or experience in your application form or CV.
So if you don't use those exact key words, for example because you've used a similar term, your application won't progress to the next stage of being sifted by an actual human.
I hear you re age though. I'm 51 and feel like I'
ve been written off as too old, especially when you have to tick those bloody boxes and are in the 51 to 55 or 51 to 60 category!

Allergictoironing · 11/08/2020 12:33

Did you see on BBC News this morning that they've finally woken up to the fact it's people over 50 who will suffer worst from unemployment once Covid is over?

The attitude still seems to be that anyone over about 50-55 is going to just be counting down to retirement & not bothering - ignoring the fact that at 59 I have another 8 years before I can retire, so won't be just mooching along for that long. I made sure I used all possible key terms & phrases from the job description in my "why you should be considered" section of the application & threw a couple more relevant technical terms in for good measure.

However the GOOD news today is that I have a date for my spinal nerve block Grin, and it's only a couple of weeks away. Thought I was going to have to wait MONTHS more, but loads of people have decided that they don't want to risk having the procedure while there's still Covid, so I got bumped up the list he he he.

Papergirl1968 · 11/08/2020 15:15

That's good re the spinal nerve block, Allergic.
I'm so broke, I hope I get something soon. I've seen one job for a receptionist at a vets. Just wondering if I could cope with very sick or badly injured pets being brought in.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/08/2020 15:41

Well you wouldn’t see them for long because the vet nurse would get them into clinic. I’d apply, you might get a staff discount.

Allergictoironing · 11/08/2020 16:18

I would go for that - you can empathise with the owners, & fondle loads of other people's pets.

swampytiggaa · 11/08/2020 17:35

I just saw a girl pushing a cat in a pushchair on my way home from work today. It looked very resigned 😭😭

YesItsMeIDontCare · 11/08/2020 18:00

I need a pushchair for Leroy. It's OK when DH is around, but I put my shoulder out so badly last time I had to carry him to the vets I really don't think I could do it again 😭.

I suspect Leroy would rip it apart from the inside though.

swampytiggaa · 11/08/2020 21:12

It was one like this. Not sure they do a triplet version 😂😂

Supersimkin2 · 11/08/2020 21:19

That's, er, pushing it.

@Papergirl1968 how would you resist coming back from the surgery without a suspiciously loud and lumpy carrier bag? Every night?

Matt will move out.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/08/2020 21:21

@swampytiggaa I thought you meant a small child with a toy buggy but I was way off the mark.

I’ve seen dogs in buggies in boots and B&Q, dhs home town is a bit weird.

Grin he's lovely and comfy.

Papergirl1968 · 11/08/2020 22:25

That's a good point, Lana....(ponders)

Supersimkin2 · 11/08/2020 23:26

Noooooooo.... that way madness lies @Papergirl1968. What about little Matt and Socks????

Papergirl1968 · 12/08/2020 12:03

Matt and Socks would probably leave home if I brought any more waifs and strays home...Grin

Allergictoironing · 12/08/2020 12:37

Oh my - NHS has really sprung back into life! Today got a letter with a pre-op assessment date for my shoulder op! Even with the wait you can sometimes have after the assessment, that means they should be doing that in the next couple of months.

Won't know what to do with myself, with both my back and primary shoulders eventually working! Grin

Kitties won't be happy about that one though - 2-6 weeks in a sling which will cramp by cuddling style a bit.

TheSparklyPussycat · 12/08/2020 14:51

I doubt the kitties will stop cuddles, which will really cramp your style...

Friend with a small dog has a dog buggy. She got it after we went to a shopping centre and they would only let her in if she carried the dog.

Supersimkin2 · 12/08/2020 20:32

That is very sweet @TheSparklyPussycat if a bit tough of the mall.

@Allergictoironing, fine news and the kits won't mind a bit - they're hoping your pouch skillz might improve.

Er, does anyone know how much a Whopper is? I've just paid £7.49. Worth it, don't get me wrong, first one since lockdown. Despite the heat Cap'n managed to choke down a sizeable portion, bless him.

Allergictoironing · 12/08/2020 20:39

I reckon about half that was the delivery charge!

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/08/2020 20:47

Youd pay that here but get chips and a drink. Service station ones are about a tenner each and the queues a mile long at every one. M&S can not compete with a whopper when your Devon bound and just spent 90 minutes having your driving critiqued.

I’ve just booked dh in for a blood test at the drs. Apparently it’s something I’m meant to check with him first about but I’ve told him it’s just like booking in at the vets.

Supersimkin2 · 12/08/2020 21:05

I walked there and back but it was a drive-thru.

Get the GP to check DH's ears and paws for a laff.

Papergirl1968 · 12/08/2020 21:15

Ouch, Lana. Whopper in name and price.
We had a Spoons today - about £15 for three main meals and three drinks including one alcoholic one. £10ish last week for Maccies for three of us including pud. Eaten in of course to get the discount.

Supersimkin2 · 12/08/2020 22:29

Every penny was delicious, I can't complain Grin

Oh, the bliss of Spoons. Proper gin, proper portions. It's such a relaxing place, whichever one you totter into.

QueenCT · 12/08/2020 23:40

Oh finally someone has accepted the fan. By accepted I mean spooked at it and then flung himself on the floor near it
