What makes your cat happy?

Here, in no particular order, it's :

A very tall scratching pole
8 meals a day
A boiling hot, sunny conservatory
A dab of butter on the paw
A busy birdtable
NOT going to the cattery anymore
A spot of milk on the nose
A flat immobile lap
A clean latrine

Similar here, Claudia. He will sleep through/more likely ignore any amount of being shouted, or be absolutely nowhere to be seen, yet open milk or butter and he instantly appears by your side like a bad penny, and expectant.

Staring intently at every person in the house take a shower. From the comfort of the sink. No one is allowed to go to the bathroom unaccompanied.
Driving dogs to an early grave. Leisurely cleaning/sunning herself, while sat just out of reach from next doors dogs, who get themselves in a terrible frenzy. She pretends she doesn't even notice them.

Have you got a wood burning stove by any chance, Bit?!

I am interested in the chasing away of the husband. Does your cat mean business? Our's occasionally chases away one of the DC, (who he otherwise loves), if they have been irritating. He really does mean business and the first time it happened the DC was more than a little scared. Now it's quite funny, which the cat does not appreciate at all.

I wonder why they like watching people in the shower so much.

Does anyone else’s LOVE it when you come out the shower and you’re a bit damp. All three of mine roll around at our feet and bite our ankles and if we have damp hair they play with it.

Following on from Tea and May with the shower, we had a cat who liked nothing more than to sit on the side of the bath, even teetering all around the sides of the bath, whenever anyone was having a soak. This ended the day he slipped on some bath oil and fell in, and was completely submerged in the deep water, bubbles and oil. Very fragrant afterwards, but wounded pride, embarrassment and a bad fur day ensued.

My cat falls in every single bath Hmm she sits on my drink shelf and fishes for toes then inevitably falls in and acts like you pushed her.

Oh yes Tea, I'd forgotten about the fishing for toes (and knees). Your cat sounds a glutton for punishment - or does she just forget, inbetween?!

She’s just young and a bit erm optimistic.

She’s got the personality of a Labrador, follows us around all the time wanting to play fetch and never sleeps, she just sits bolt upright in her bed chatting away.

She sounds lovely, Tea. In some ways, and although very much a cat, our present cat is the most dog-like cat I've ever known. Hard to explain it.

Have you had him since he was a kitten?

Approximately four meals a day, supplemented by several servings of Dreamies.
Human food left around to steal. The other day he licked my red velvet cake, yesterday he had his head in my bowl of cornflakes, and today he was licking the margarine. And I think he was just at the remains of pizza on dd’s plate which she has helpfully left on the sofa. Nothing is safe! None of us have died yet so I’ve given up worrying about hygiene.
Changing the bed is his favourite game, especially hiding under the fitted sheet.
A day which is warm enough to have the back door open so he can wander in and out, lie on the decking, and if feeling energetic chase insects and butterflies.
All his family at home, so he has plenty of willing slaves, and a choice of warm bodies to cuddle up to at night.
He is a spoilt cat!

I'm not entirely sure that our cat enjoys being wrapped in a blanket, Olliv. I suspect he enjoys it, but feels that he shouldn't enjoy it, and doesn't want to be seen to be enjoying it, especially as a big roughty-toughty guy. It doesn't help if we laugh - but the sight of him wrapped in a fleecy blanket, with just his face visible like an elderly lady in a headscarf or a very hairy baby is a sight to behold.

I think he feels the same way about dressing up with the DC too. He likes it but feels he probably shouldn't.

I think that Olliv's cat is too cute to be actually real.

Teacup - no, adopted from cats protection. He came out the carrier, looked at me and sat on my lap
Short version is he turned up, lived in a woman's broken greenhouse for 4 years, she had him neutered, she died, he was alone again and CP took him in. So 4 years+ as a stray

Well, he certainly sounds and looks happy, and in a 'I can't quite believe my good luck' kind of way.

I believe you! Our's purrs, but you rarely hear him, it's so very quiet. It's a case of having to put your ear, head or hand on him and feel the vibrations! Happy days.

What is it about some cats and stealing, Papergirl?! Despite being very well fed and having had a reliable source of food for several years now, our's is still the most terrible thief. Any and every opportunity. His manners have improved a lot over time, but he even sometimes steals right in front of us. He clearly feels guilty and knows it's wrong, (slinks or runs off with a very guilty look on his face if discovered or thinks he's about to be discovered), but he just can't seem to stop himself. Sad really.

I hope you didn't have any nasty scares with poo, (your's or his) after the red velvet cake Wink
