It's pretty good mashed 50/50 with carrots too (plus butter, salt and pepper of course).

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/03/2018 07:52

Lanterns would have been Swedes, well mangold wurzels, I believe.
Carving out a pot turnip would be a bit of a faff.

LanaorAna2 · 06/03/2018 09:14

Right, I'm off to start hacking the beast up. Weeds you are a goldmine of Interesting Facts. Aren't they the best sort of information ever?

TheLongRider · 06/03/2018 09:28

Irish vegetarian recipe for creamed Swedes.

An American I knew, fell about laughing at this recipe and insisted I send it to him so that he could troll his Swedish friends.

Mr C! :(

Ollivander84 · 06/03/2018 09:54

Ollie was desperate to go outside this morning. "Cat fings to do" apparently. He's been out since about 9am

cozietoesie · 06/03/2018 11:28

Allergic

I don't think it (the white root) is generally used in Scotland. Wink

LanaorAna2 · 06/03/2018 14:38

The Scots have got more sense; parsnips are bad enough.

Mr C remains in one piece. He's eating like a herd of cats. How PB?

cozietoesie · 06/03/2018 15:09

Holding true to his heritage. Smile

Although hungry, he refused to touch some (quite classy) fish-flavoured cat food for breakfast but then wolfed some chicken flavour. I hadn't actually bought the former but having 'won out' over grocery deliveries over the past year, I decided not to moan when it was delivered by mistake last night. I'm now feeling justified in giving him all meat. (And wondering what to do with the rest of the little trays.)

The feline fashions cycle turns faster than one thinks C.

I'm practising personalised biscuits again this pm for a family birthday. So many tribal elders are demented that I thought it might be handy if I iced guests' names on the sweetmeats as an aide-memoire & then airily pass them round as the latest trend, which they also are.

cozietoesie · 06/03/2018 16:02

Goodness. Full name or just initials?

Ollivander84 · 06/03/2018 16:09

O is finally eating his applaws which he rejected this morning. Good because it's hiding a wormer Wink

LanaorAna2 · 06/03/2018 16:46

First names. I am toying with 'Aunt Jane' 'Cousin Joe' etc but that means bigger biscuits and they'll break on the way.

I may break my own rule, however, by prettily icing DM's one
Star BEELZEBUB Star

She is not in favour with either me or Mr C at present.

cozietoesie · 06/03/2018 20:08

Restrain yourself. Grin

I have forgiven DM and invited her for a slap-up feast on Sunday, bunch of daffs, the works, it's Mother's Day. Slightly mourning the loss of my only decent ring, she's lost it. Life on a stick.

Ollivander84 · 06/03/2018 22:40

O is off wet food again now. Why would he only want dry? I thought if his mouth was sore he might not eat the dry but apparently he's being a weird cat again Hmm

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/03/2018 23:03

Carved out mangold wurzels are known as punkies in these parts. You are a lot less likely to lose a finger carving a pumpkin though!

Cats are meant to be difficult.
Ollie and PB are just even better at it than most!

LanaorAna2 · 06/03/2018 23:10

He might fancy something to bite down on to make the blood get into the area, and get things moving again. Healthy, you know the way they used to make you chow down on cornflakes a couple of days after a human defanging.

He might also be loving having a good chew without any twinges.

We've got vet next week because of the arthritis. Kinell.

Ollivander84 · 06/03/2018 23:12

He needs to have a good chew on the rest of his wormer Grin

LanaorAna2 · 06/03/2018 23:35

OMG W I've never seen a punkie before. How pretty. Where I come from ie 1980s SW London they were tall, skinny gentlemen with spots & fuschia Mohicans who menaced schoolgirls in the Kings' Road for their bus fares.

Schoolgirls such as myself. Insanely cool, tho'.

Do mangold wurzels get grown still? Punks died out.

LanaorAna2 · 06/03/2018 23:38

Look, archive pic of a green mohi punkie.

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/03/2018 07:04

That looks like an illustration of mandrake roots!
Mangolds are still grown to feed cattle and pigs, I.don't think you'd get them in a shop unless you were maybe near one of the villages that go all out for punkie night. More the other end if the county than where I live though.
We had a few of the other sort of punk too, but not so many. Slightly more provincial than the King's Road!

BrokeAndBad · 07/03/2018 07:48

Erm if anyone is interested in knowing... Aldi last night had lik e lix for sale ... in the random stuff in middle of the shop Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/03/2018 10:20

That’s awful L. I would be really upset too.
