I've got a Siamese cat. He was abandoned by his owner and is living in state - three nests made by neighbours - in our garden. He is absolutely beautiful, aged 11, and a white/cream colour, brown eyes I think. So far we have blinked at each other, me flat on face behind bush in garden.

The lady who feeds him is going away for 6 weeks. She is in a royal state of anxiety so I stepped in. Have been trained to do the feeding, leg massage, etc.

His history is shameful. He has been coming to us for food for ages, finally taken to Battersea, where his so-called owner collected him in 90 minutes. Then left him to starve. So you see I can't not.

Any words of wisdom? I need them.

Do you think Triangle Man is trying to make himself look like a Siamese?

MRI results back today. Off to neurosurgeon. Again Hmm for an urgent referral. Ollie is going to love it if I have more surgery... food thrown from a height and a human to lie on 24/7

cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 22:48

Are you still riding and mucking out?

TheLongRider · 26/01/2018 22:58

Alternative words "ephemeris" a diary or journal in ancient Greek.perseus.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/philologic/getobject.pl?c.27:9:113.LSJ

cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 23:08

Oh well done, Long. Smile

Ollivander84 · 26/01/2018 23:21

Riding yes, very restrained to what I used to do! No yard work at all. They've found two small prolapsed discs and the one I had operated on pressing on my sciatic nerve. Oh and degenerative disc disease Confused
If I didn't laugh I would cry

cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 23:56

So - no riding at all from now on?

cozietoesie · 27/01/2018 00:52

And maybe a new job? (With no lifting.)

Ollivander84 · 27/01/2018 06:40

I start the new job Monday Smile
Riding will carry on (with caution) as not doing it is horrendous mental health wise

Lanaorana2 · 27/01/2018 11:57

Long - the Lana Genius Award goes straight to you for 2018. Thanks a million :) So grateful :) :)

Olli - Lordy, that appt must have been a bit of a trial. Of course you can ride, which is good news. And thank God you've started a new career where your spine isn't being battered every 5 min. So you've already dealt with big problems, you clever clever girl.

But you must be feeling a bit taken aback. How are the pain meds working? are they any good? Get a referral to a pain clinic, they are all brilliant and a world away from GPs' meagre capabilities.

Pilates is a winner too; I know the very thought of doing more work is annoying but it works best for people with knackered backs, funnily enough. You can do the bits that work best while watching telly with Olli on. If it's any help I have arthritis up to my skull - the gravel crunching noises when I move my face wake Mr C - but all I do is the odd stretch every day and no pain, normal life, yay. But I'll be straight onto pure heroin if that stops working and so should you.

Do not work too hard. That's where the trouble comes from - I know we can't help it, but even one thing you do less or differently will help, scout around for adjustable tasks. Take care sweetheart, we are all with you.

NB's owner? No blinkin' sign. Oh bugger :)

Ollivander I am so sorry about your health news FlowersGin. Take care of yourself and I second the Pilates suggestion.

I'm glad we have the e-word sorted!

Ollivander84 · 27/01/2018 14:41

I did do Pilates for ages but my back pain got worse so I stopped. Will wait until I see the surgeon to ask about doing it again. I take OTC painkillers during the day then 60mg dihydrocodiene at night which helps

It's one of those where stretches may help, or it could be like last time where if I stretch and move the disc, I will need emergency surgery Grin so I shall hang on until after my appointment. I'm hoping it's ok to conservatively manage it until I have been in the job a while

cozietoesie · 27/01/2018 14:52

Remind me. When are you seeing the surgeon/medic again?

Ollivander84 · 27/01/2018 16:13

No idea. Haematology rang me with the MRI results and he's sending me back to my original surgeon (who's based at another hospital), and he said urgent referral

Lanaorana2 · 27/01/2018 17:51

That sounds hopeful.

Spent this pm making plaster casts of Mr C's paws. A permanent monument made to us currently not speaking.

Hand-cooked!

So impressed - I've got Mr C a ham sandwich for Sunday lunch but I know what he'd prefer.

Ollivander84 · 27/01/2018 23:07

Pork scratchings are his favourite thing. I found this out when I was casually eating a packet and he jumped on me and started howling and pawing at the packet Grin

cozietoesie · 27/01/2018 23:24

Yes. Still the brown mice.

He has two that I've found tonight. Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/01/2018 07:53

L Sounds like an afternoon to remember!. Do you do just the one paw?.

Allergictoironing · 28/01/2018 09:39

Ollivander have you tried using a TENS machine? Your problems sound similar to mine, though luckily I don't have impingement on the nerve (or not according to the 3 year old scan, we'll see when I get the results of the latest one). I found the TENS was pretty good at keeping me going when I had a long day of walking or standing, or a public transport commute.

Ollivander84 · 28/01/2018 10:52

I've been contemplating one. At the minute I'm on ibuprofen and paracetamol during the day and then dihydrocodiene x 60mg at night. It's if I bump my hip or something, it jolts through my back and when I finish a shift is the worst, it almost goes into spasm

Going to see what the surgeons say is best to do. I have a suspicion I may need fusion at some point. And I'm only 33 GrinConfused

Lanaorana2 · 28/01/2018 10:56

I did both! I used one of those baby feet kits, chopped the clay in half, one per paw.

They've come out really well, especially the claw marks.
