I've got a Siamese cat. He was abandoned by his owner and is living in state - three nests made by neighbours - in our garden. He is absolutely beautiful, aged 11, and a white/cream colour, brown eyes I think. So far we have blinked at each other, me flat on face behind bush in garden.

The lady who feeds him is going away for 6 weeks. She is in a royal state of anxiety so I stepped in. Have been trained to do the feeding, leg massage, etc.

His history is shameful. He has been coming to us for food for ages, finally taken to Battersea, where his so-called owner collected him in 90 minutes. Then left him to starve. So you see I can't not.

Any words of wisdom? I need them.

What weight is he now? 🙂

cozietoesie · 25/01/2018 21:28

Give or take a kilo. Wink

Lanaorana2 · 25/01/2018 22:25

Approximately 6 kg of pure cloud, made of feathers.

How is PB? You don't speak ancient Greek do you Cozie? (unrelated, that last one)

I need to know what an epimerism is, and even google is stumped. I think it is an old skool word for parsing.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 25/01/2018 23:34

PB is.........odd. (We're talking again.)

Epimerism is pretty straightforward, I think. Why are you wanting to know about optical isomers??

(You sure 'someone' has the right word? Grin)

Ollivander84 · 25/01/2018 23:36

Ollie is about 4.5kg I think. And has taken himself to his bed, I suspect food coma after the amount of encore he has just scoffed down

cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 00:20

Encore is bidding fair to be rejected next week then? Grin

Lanaorana2 · 26/01/2018 10:26

I've had the Finger for Gourmet AND Sheba this week. Waitrose value is order of the day.

It's not the chemical def of epinewhatever, it's how it was used in Ancient Greek lit crit. Google scholar is very coy on the subject.

Hang on in there with PB. IME they do something that weirds you out, it lasts till you really get the fear, then without so much as a by your leave it's resolved. They are fine while one is left a little discombobulated. :) Is he talking and eating?

I studied Classical literature once -in English-- and really want to know what you mean now :).

Lanaorana2 · 26/01/2018 14:26

isn't this good Spartacus

Why in Goodness name were they writing about optical isomers in the Dead Sea Scrolls?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/01/2018 14:32

Oh yes! I understood every word of that!
I still want to know what epinewhatever is though :)

cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 14:40

Having said which, didn't they fuel the baths at Alexandria for a couple of years on papyrii from the Great Library? (I could weep.)

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/01/2018 14:50

Yes, I believe so. I could also weep.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/01/2018 14:53

This is obvious, but you weren't referring to 'eponym' were you?

cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 15:01

Has NewerBoy been seen recently, by the way?

Lanaorana2 · 26/01/2018 15:13

No I don't think so but the word is evidently so rare it could be a mistake Like me being in credit, for instance :)

No I haven't seen NB with own eyes but I checked in and he is OK. We reckon it's the builders that are putting him off, as caretaker says he is turning up for meals when served by him. The weather is milder which is good news.

OP posts:
Lanaorana2 · 26/01/2018 15:19

The caretaker is being run ragged by a spherical ginger cat and some black cats. Plus some other cats. And a dachshund. Turns out the sacks of food I ordered from Amazon have many more grateful recipients than anticipated.

We've drawn the line at feeding the birds. Anyway, ducks and geese from Clapham Common break in and nick stuff. They process up the park from the pond, wait patiently for the green man outside our front door and waddle in neat and determined rank and file, craftily waiting till someone opens the door to trespass in our garden.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 15:20

Has the caretaker used the word 'Boy' yet ? (As in 'My Boy' or 'The Boy'.) Wink

cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 15:22

A dachshund??Shock

TheLongRider · 26/01/2018 15:28

The word couldn't be "ephemera" could it? That would make more sense in regard to manuscripts.

Lanaorana2 · 26/01/2018 20:17

Yes it might be, what a cracking suggestion. I'm no slouch on grammar but it's supposed to be a grammatical term (ie a word about grammar not a part of speech) and it's a mystery. The chemical definition came later.

Right, if we want to know I'm going to ask the BL. They wrote it, they can tell me what it means. I bet they'll deny all knowledge. Editors, see. :)

The caretaker is still looking livid when I ask about NB :) But he's out banging the gong before dawn too...

Yes, a tiny, fluffy, chestnut dachshund , half the size of Mr C. He is also a garden visitor these days, v smily - vv respectful of the cats.

This is a highlight from the medieval manuscript bit. Feels like me when faced with the catfood aisle.

The original custodian must be home soon?

Lanaorana2 · 26/01/2018 21:01

It was supposed to be today F but I haven't seen owt. No one has touched NB's house, Maintenance Man won't answer the phone to me :)

I wonder if NB' s owner wants a welcome home gift....
