I've got a Siamese cat. He was abandoned by his owner and is living in state - three nests made by neighbours - in our garden. He is absolutely beautiful, aged 11, and a white/cream colour, brown eyes I think. So far we have blinked at each other, me flat on face behind bush in garden.

The lady who feeds him is going away for 6 weeks. She is in a royal state of anxiety so I stepped in. Have been trained to do the feeding, leg massage, etc.

His history is shameful. He has been coming to us for food for ages, finally taken to Battersea, where his so-called owner collected him in 90 minutes. Then left him to starve. So you see I can't not.

Any words of wisdom? I need them.

The trouble is that she looks rather small-boned. Wink

Weezol · 24/01/2018 14:22

I though it was well known that cats can change size at will, more commonly known as the easily obseved 'Big Cat, Little Cat, Cardboard Box' phenomenon.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/01/2018 14:41

There was a program about metabolism & weight on BBC world service & the dr said she'd found it to be true. Cannot remember her name but she was part of a study that found leptin absence in morbidly obese children so that narrows it down.

I think tabbies run to fat.

Ollivander84 · 24/01/2018 16:12

Waif didn't actually eat anything ConfusedShock
Ollie has decided encore is "favourite FING in the whole WORLD" Confused and NM is "disgusting"

Lanaorana2 · 24/01/2018 16:55

Mr C runs towards anything containing fat, that is a scientific certainty.

That's this week, Ollivander. Wink

Ollivander84 · 24/01/2018 17:15

Oh yes. I shall not buy lots because next week it will be out of favour

Papergirl1968 · 24/01/2018 18:27

I shall quote unnamed experts next time I’m being lectured by the vet about Fat Matt’s weight. I will convince the vet it’s now fact that there is such as thing as big boned cats and that tabbies are well known for running to fat!

cozietoesie · 24/01/2018 18:46

Read this Papergirl before arguing too forcefully. Wink

Lanaorana2 · 24/01/2018 19:46

Papergirl I was attempting humour, not medical advice :)

The truth is I am too frightened to put Mr C on a diet. As it happens his weight is more or less ok at the mo. But he does get fat. Because I overfeed him.

Do Siamese ever get fat?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 24/01/2018 20:00

According to Weeds they do! That photo scared me silly. Grin

Weezol · 24/01/2018 20:02

Interesting question - I'd love to know.

My moggy is quite Siamese shaped, and I have been told her talkative streak suggest Siamese somewhere in her recent genetics. She eats well, but is quite self limiting, even with ham and Dreamies Shock

cozietoesie · 24/01/2018 20:03

Sorry. That picture........(I don't think it was an actual photo.) Grin

Papergirl1968 · 24/01/2018 20:17

I know. He’s not as big as the cat in the pic and he is a long cat but he definitely has a wobbly belly now.
The problem is that he pesters for food and barely moves during the winter. He makes such a nuisance of himself he is pretty much fed on demand. Every time someone goes in the kitchen he comes galloping - pretty much the only time he moves fast!
But he is not four yet and I know we need to tackle this before he gets middle aged. There is a podgy pets club at the vets but he hates going to the vet!
I think we will all have to play with him more and get him chasing the laser light up and down the stairs.

Papergirl1968 · 24/01/2018 20:20

Jelly belly!

Yes. Increased activity is an alternative to decreased consumption. Smile

cozietoesie · 24/01/2018 20:22

Ah. That is just a tad............full-figured! Grin

Weezol · 24/01/2018 20:28

Laser light is a very good idea. You could also pretend that you are in charge of the kitchen* and feed him a bit less.

*I am aware this is risking retribution and is at worst foolhardy and at best outright heroic.

Papergirl1968 · 24/01/2018 20:32

It is an unflattering photo but he definitely takes after his momma! Blush

cozietoesie · 24/01/2018 20:35

Papergirl

I was being very very polite. Grin

Papergirl1968 · 24/01/2018 20:45

It’s ok, Cosie - I won’t show him the message so it won’t hurt his feelings! Grin

Lanaorana2 · 24/01/2018 20:49

He is beautiful!!! Look at that lovely lush fur and kind, clever face.

I do really want to stoke that tumster. He is a very handsome young chap.

Papergirl1968 · 24/01/2018 22:39

Thanks, he is amazing! I luffs him Smile
