Cattery lost my cat

TamanTun · 21/08/2017 22:34

Has anyone experienced this before? Currently away on hols and just got an email to say one of my cats has escaped from the cattery (hole in the roof of the pen walkway). Gutted as I put them in there to keep them safe as our last kitten got run over when we had friends feeding them.

The person who posted said they were a friend of yours! She mentioned about sightings and where the cat was last seen, that was all.

Bit far away for me to be of much help sadly but I hope she turns up Flowers

EachandEveryone · 23/08/2017 23:17

Yes it has to be the same one. Are we allowed to know the name of the cattery as a lot of us use them

Sorry, wrong thread. I hope you find your cat soon

bobdylannumber1 · 24/08/2017 23:36

Any sign of your cat?

EachandEveryone · 29/08/2017 14:18

Any news?

Triskaidekaphilia · 29/08/2017 15:27

Do you have friends who can check at your house? If the cattery's not too far I'd imagine that's where he'd try to get to. Hope you find him soon Sad

Chewbecca · 01/09/2017 08:26

Did you find your cat OP?

TamanTun · 01/09/2017 18:33

Just got back from hols and have been out searching but no joy. Apparently there was a sighting a few fields away so concentrating the search there. Doing the normal posting flyers but it's quite a rural area and close knit community so I'm hoping we get news soon. Thanks for all the positivity here, I'll update if we find him!

I hope you find him soon.

TizzyDongue · 01/09/2017 18:36

Ah no. I hope he turns up suddenly and demands food in true cat style.

LavenderDoll · 01/09/2017 18:42

Hope he's found soon

EachandEveryone · 01/09/2017 22:09

What did the cattery say? How far is it from you? Have they searched all the grounds

Floralnomad · 01/09/2017 22:13

I assume as a minimum that they didn't charge you anything for either cat OP ? Hope he turns up .

TamanTun · 01/09/2017 23:10

No they didn't charge and were ever so 'umble. Hole fixed straight away, they were absolutely mortified about the whole thing.

OP posts:
TamanTun · 01/09/2017 23:11

They are a few miles away, do-able for a cat I think (hope)

EachandEveryone · 01/09/2017 23:53

Is it accross fields? What else are the doing about ir? Did you put it on facebook?

TamanTun · 02/09/2017 13:36

Yes the full works, posters up, through doors, Facebook, vets, local farmers, out walking the fields....

I'd ask the cattery to set traps in the vicinity, with a frightened lost cat that's the only way they'll be able to get it I would think. They can be bought for abought thirty quid, but the cattery should foot the bill for that, I would exppect them to have insurance for this sort of thing happening anyway.

bobdylannumber1 · 03/09/2017 10:19

My SIL lives in 2nd storey apartment block female cat 6 years old never ever been out fell off windowsill used to sit on it all the time but the cat got bigger so fell off sil didn't realise for few hours as they have2 abides. They put posters round the neighbourhood after 4 days a neighbour they didn't know said her hubby had seen the cat in the bushes just across from the apartments, they went out and searched very dense hedging the cat was there she'd been missing for 4 days, now this cat was probably frightened as everything was new to her as she was a house cat but your cat could be in the close area as it's new to her too,I really hope you find her.

sizeofalentil · 03/09/2017 10:31

Set up some cat traps and put your dirty bedsheets and a jar of your own pee (yes, honestly!) nearby. Bait the the trap with tuna or kfc. The smells should bring the cat out of hiding.

EachandEveryone · 03/09/2017 18:17

But it could be anywhere. Where would you put the trap?

fenneltea · 04/09/2017 10:22

I'd place traps where it went missing and where it has been sighted, providing the sightings are definitely the same cat.

We had a cat that was terrifiied of the outdoors even though it was an ex feral. It escaped the house and wasn't seen for a week, it would bolt when frightened so I assumed it had run off in fear and wouldn't be seen again. I set a couple of traps around the house and caught her the first night, she mustn't have gone far at all and most cats when lost in a strange area tend to hunker down when scared.

It was the only way I could have got mine back and wouldn't do any harm to try, the only difficulty is making sure the traps are located safely and sheltered and regularly checked, if they have smelly food like sardines or tuna in it is surprising how far away a cat can smell it.

5rivers7hills · 04/09/2017 10:27

Any update OP Flowers

TamanTun · 04/09/2017 12:27

I thought about traps too but the area the cat was (allegedly) seen is private land where people live who also have cats. I'm spreading the word via pubs and online groups and my daughter and I went out calling again yesterday across the fields 😢
