Cattery lost my cat

TamanTun · 21/08/2017 22:34

Has anyone experienced this before? Currently away on hols and just got an email to say one of my cats has escaped from the cattery (hole in the roof of the pen walkway). Gutted as I put them in there to keep them safe as our last kitten got run over when we had friends feeding them.

This happened in the cattery by me quite recently.

The cattery informed the owners of the cat but were very slow with putting up posters and spreading the word.

The cat owner took to our local Facebook pages for lost / found dogs and cats and uploaded a photo and what had happened.

As you can imagine it caused quite a stir but it got the word out and everyone was keeping a eye out locally for the cat and it made the local paper.

The cat was found very close to the cattery the day before the owner returned home.

Can you see if you have any similar fb pages in the area of the cattery to spread the word?

In this cats case the cattery didn't want to spread the word as it's bad for business but with the help of the lovely people on the Facebook page he was found.

summerdaysgain · 22/08/2017 11:12

What area do you live in?

Anxioustabbycat · 22/08/2017 11:33

Tell the chattery to get in a professional search team. I think one ☝️ f the places you register missing cats does it. I know they are extremely expensive ( we sadly couldn't afford it) but in this situation the cattery needs to act and pay for it. You use a cattery to keep your cat safe so this is horrendous.
I'm so sorry you have lost your cat we are in this situation but ours Is the normal missing from home situation. Good luck finding your at.

Anxioustabbycat · 22/08/2017 11:34

Oops sorry about strange sign and typos posting from my phone and feeding baby who kicked my hand.

SnickersWasAHorse · 22/08/2017 11:38

I would be utterly distraught.
Is there a local missing cats Facebook page. I'd be all over that like a rash, making sure to name and shame.

5rivers7hills · 22/08/2017 13:01

Oh my god that Ian terrible!!!! I do home they find your cat.

5rivers7hills · 22/08/2017 13:01

FFS I can't type.

That is terrible.
I do hope they find your cat.

EachandEveryone · 22/08/2017 18:30

Any news? Have you gone to your local Facebook page we have one that posts local notices you deffo need to put your cat on it. Why would saying which area you are from would put you? I wouldn't give a toss we don't need the town just a general area I'm off work now so would be happy to look out.

CatchingBabies · 22/08/2017 19:40

That's awful! They are totally negligent knowing there was hole and doing nothing about it. Anyone with cats knows they can get into tiny spaces so a cattery should certainly know that!

They should be advertising the cat everywhere, get people looking! Make sure they are not avoiding posting the cats picture on social media. They may do this to avoid looking bad but someone may spot your cat via this route.

I would expect their insurance to cover all costs associated with advertising for him, a reward for his return etc. which will encourage people to get out and look. None of this should fall on you. And if you havnt already paid the boarding cost I wouldn't be doing either.

I can't believe they've done this, it's litterally the worst nightmare.

TamanTun · 22/08/2017 20:39

I've tried to get access to the FB pages close to the cattery but I guess I'm at the mercy of the admins as they are closed groups and selling sites rather than lost pets sites. The cattery has assured me they have put out the word on social media but I guess it's not in their best interest as it could affect their business.

OP posts:
RubyGoat · 22/08/2017 20:45

Do you have a local group for your town or area? They are usually not restricted access & are used by people for buying & selling, spreading info about school closures (as well as various gossip).

SmokingGun · 22/08/2017 20:52

Oh that's terrible OP, I hope DCat returns.

Has anyone got a key to your house so they could fetch something that smells like home that could be taken the the cattery? It may entice him back so he can be caught.

luckylorca · 22/08/2017 20:53

Poor you! That's horrific!

I totally agree with others about telling the cattery in no uncertain terms that you expect them to pull out every stop to find your cat or you will go to The Sunday or The Daily Mail with the story. (Even if you have no desire to.) You can add that you have contacted a solicitor for legal advice (to make them take the matter seriously) even if you haven't!

I would also think about whether a neighbour or relative could move into your house while you're away or at least visit daily (or get the bloody cattery to!) in case your cat finds it's way home and needs some food to make it stay and feel less stressed till you get there.

Good luck! Xx

luckylorca · 22/08/2017 20:56

PS: probably the last thing you want to do on holiday but I would google all the local vets with a standard email now as some get rid of cats very quickly if no-one comes forward. Don't wait!

childmaintenanceserviceinquiry · 22/08/2017 20:57

Hope,your cat returns safely,x

GoGoGazelle · 22/08/2017 20:58

WTAF?! Hope DCat is found safe and well.

caffeinestream · 22/08/2017 22:02

Are you on FB OP?

A post about a cat disappearing from a cattery was put on my local pets for sale group on FB last night. Would be a big coincidence if it wasn't your cat?

If it is, she's gorgeous and I hope you find her soon!

MsMims · 22/08/2017 22:35

I'd pack up and head home, giving the cattery the bill. You won't enjoy the holiday anyway now and the longer she's missing the lower the chances of a happy ending.

As many people as possible need to be out on the ground looking for her. In unfamiliar territory there's a chance she's gone to ground and is hiding in fear.

EachandEveryone · 22/08/2017 22:39

Could you leave your husband and dc? I think I would.

Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple · 22/08/2017 22:44

I'm sure your vets practice would put it on their Facebook page for you, that might get the ball rolling with some publicity
So sorry

pilates · 23/08/2017 00:32

😲that's awful, hope your cat is found

stayathomegardener · 23/08/2017 12:36

Any news today?

TamanTun · 23/08/2017 22:46

I have a few people on the case back home helping me out plus I heard that there was a potential sighting of him today so I'm hoping to hear more tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

OP posts:
TamanTun · 23/08/2017 22:56
