Currently in the middle of making arrangements to meet - he's a breed rescue - and yet to check over the house for 'breakability' issues etc. (He's only young - and it's a good few years since I had a cat that could potentially leap living with me.)

Yikes!!

M you have skillz liking opera. I writhe with boredom and then burst into tears at the end when everyone carks. The Little Foxes is a killer, I wasn't so bothered about noisy Carmen.

prettybird · 28/08/2017 18:05

Does anyone else have Boney M's song "Brown Girl in the Rain New Boy on the Bed" as an ear worm? Just me? WinkBlush showing my age Blush

You're making great progress against the odds! He's lively to have acquired you Grin

cozietoesie · 28/08/2017 18:06

Ah. You need to watch Carlos Saura's version. I'll see if I can find it. Smile

RubbishMantra · 28/08/2017 19:15

OG! About time too! The lavish wee must have cheered his spirits. Mcat's partial to a bit of Handel whilst resting in his chambers Grin

'On' the bed. Briefly. Wink

I wonder what made him get up there given that he's not been allowed up in his old home?.

Allergictoironing · 28/08/2017 19:56

Testing boundaries again?

cozietoesie · 28/08/2017 20:04

It was certainly very odd. We just looked at each other, briefly. Smile

I have a vision of you walking into your bedroom, copping that NewBoy is on the bed, not making eye contact and cautiously slithering between the sheets while your catty paper weight stays put. You're already trained to stay in your sliver of bed so it should work. Smile

May this be the start of a beautiful new friendship.

cozietoesie · 28/08/2017 20:21

Maybe by Christmas. Wink (This is a troubled and previously trained lad.)

@Lanaorana2 Confused

I used to sing that in my school playground as a skipping rhyme. I'm tempted to teach it to my DD. Thanks for the earworm!

@cosietoesie It'll be a happy Christmas then.

Weedsnseeds1 · 28/08/2017 20:53

Well that sounds promisingGrin

TheLongRider · 28/08/2017 20:55

What you're going through with NewBoy is very similar to what myself and my DH went through about 20 years ago with a semi-feral female. It took many months to gain her trust and many years before she finally curled up on my DH's knee.

You're in this for long haul.

cozietoesie · 28/08/2017 21:26

This boy is temperamentally a sealpoint - both very solemn and very proud. He's also clearly trained within an inch of his life which will likely make it extra difficult to adjust to the relaxed ambience at cozietowers. I've never had a boy before who ate all of his food in one go, fast, as if he would have competition - which he did, sadly. If anything is left on his plate, he's not going to go back to it, come what may.

I feel quite sorry for the wee soul, really.

The Bed thing is actually very peculiar. Those of you who have raised Siamese will know how difficult - probably impossible - it is to keep them out of bed with you. I can't imagine what it's done to his psyche to be forced to sleep on his own without a person. His last people managed it, though, and he's clearly been trained to obey on that one.

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 28/08/2017 21:35

Yeah Ollie is NOT happy if he can't sleep on the bed. He often wanders off in the night but if I shut the door he just sits outside it waiting for me Sad

Weedsnseeds1 · 28/08/2017 21:36

He's getting there. He went on the bed and scarpered, but there was no "bad boy" reaction from you.

cozietoesie · 28/08/2017 21:41

There was no reaction from me whatsoever. I don't think he understood.

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 28/08/2017 21:42

Maybe waiting to be scolded Sad
At least with no reaction from you he will likely investigate again. And before long you'll wake up to a cat licking your eyelids maybe that's just me

cozietoesie · 28/08/2017 21:51

He's hunting something. (Moth, daddy longlegs, whatever.) Total focus. Gawd help any mice in the basement when he's allowed down there.

OP posts:
Lanaorana2 · 28/08/2017 22:07

Apologies for the drunken outburst in song.

I have had supper now. Not that that means much in terms of sensible advice :) I still stoutly maintain this is a Big Day.

Progress is being made. Newboy does know what the bed is and what it means, he's seen you in it. People recover from bad child/kittenhoods every day. The day of Movie-and-a-lie-down approaches ever faster.

cozietoesie · 28/08/2017 22:28

Trouble is that he won't enjoy bed until he realises what luurrvv is - and he likely won't really realise that until he experiences bed. It's a bit chicken and egg.

Still - at least he's giving his scratching thing laldy across there.
