I seem to be picking Newboy up tonight......

Currently in the middle of making arrangements to meet - he's a breed rescue - and yet to check over the house for 'breakability' issues etc. (He's only young - and it's a good few years since I had a cat that could potentially leap living with me.)

Yikes!!

Poor little lad.
My cats over the years have all slept on the bed, some were more nervous than others, some more cuddly or amenable to being picked up, but they ALL slept on the bed!
Current boy was adopted on the understanding that he was nervous and hard to re-home. He hid for a couple of months and eventually I was so worried about him getting matted, I hauled him out of his box and brushed him.
He was literally shaking with fear, then after about a minute of brushing he just sort of melted, then rolled onto his back and started moving the brush around with his back foot to the bits he wanted doing, then burst into deep, rumbling purrs. He had been completely mute uptown that point.
You'll find his "switch" eventually, sounds like he's a bright but frightened boy.

cozietoesie · 25/08/2017 23:34

I think his 'switch' is FOOD. Grin

He was tremendously badly behaved last night - so much so that I had to tell him off. (Which he seemed to appreciate. Sad)

Have I missed any confirmed sighting photos ( other than the paw and tail top one), I need to see a portrait shot!
Reacting positively to being told off? Not sure if that's a sad comment on previous life ( along the lines of any attention is better than none) or a positive sign that he's testing how far you can be pushed, with a future view to settling down with you!

cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 00:39

Neither am I......(I don't know him well enough yet.)

Did you see the 'through the banisters' shot upthread, Weeds? Smile

Lanaorana2 · 26/08/2017 09:43

Oh dear re the telling off. Maybe it's the only attention he's ever had.

Well, as you know if you listen to me re petcare you really need your head looking at. But have you tried being a complete pushover? He might need love-bombing. Maybe share a plate of food with him in his dining spot.

How was he naughty? Hehehhehe.

Lanaorana2 · 26/08/2017 09:46

I did the grooming thing as well - it worked. Mr C was so nervous at the start he had the trots three times in ten minutes but he came back from his tray every time. I was firm and steady and kept up the brushing. Then I tickled his ears and chin and he liked it.

ChestnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 26/08/2017 12:47

You're doing well, was he snugly with his previous owner? My friend has two new Siamese, one is snugly and outgoing, the other wary and runs away when strangers come over. Funny as they are twins and raised exactly the same by a good breeder who socialised them.

RubbishMantra · 26/08/2017 13:38

I want to know about Newboy's naughty escapades too! Do they compare to What Little M Did - he refused to take no for an answer and smack a pint of water onto an upholstery footstool. Leaving a huge water mark, and me wishing I knew how to do upholstery.

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/08/2017 13:52

I missed the banister one somehow, found it now. Great ears! Smile

prettybird · 26/08/2017 13:55

Just in case you hadn't thought of one but as an experienced Siamese cat slave, you probably already have but a cat's cradle/hammock to hook onto the radiator might be an idea to encourage him to come into the bedroom as the weather gets cooler until he realises that the permanent hot water bottle is actually in the bed Wink

cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 14:01

He peed........abandonedly. (And he knew he'd done wrong. SmileSiamese have a sense of guilt which outdoes most animals.)

This morning has been interesting though. The postie put something through the letterbox - with some difficulty and much noise - and Newboy rocketed out of Club Tropicana like a painting by Landseer. Paw half raised and every sinew taut for battle. I used the 'Aw' Gawn' phrase and he shook his head and went back into his room. (He's started to feel parochial it seems.)

Then I closed his door so that he wouldn't be too upset by the rest of the morning. (Lots of coming and going by various people/men.) He's been unphased it seems. The 'Aw' Gawn' phrase seems to do the trick. Smile

He already has two, pretty.

Unused. Sad

OP posts:
prettybird · 26/08/2017 14:27

I did preface my suggestion by saying I assumed you had one already! Grin

We've also got two, but they do seem to be preferred by the youngsters, as our old two had stopped using them and the remaining old girl still doesn't despite having loved them when they were younger (including sleeping inside them Confused) whereas the 11 month old newbies do seem to enjoy them (one more than the other but sometimes they're both in one together).

cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 14:29

I'll confess that they were late purchases. Wink I'd (wrongly) assumed that he would sleep in bed.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 14:38

The first night I brought Twoago home, I decided to strike a blow for human freedom and made him up a 'bed' from a cardboard box with fleeces. (It looked so enticing that I was almost jealous, myself.)

I put him in, he jumped out, I put him in, he jumped out........and so on and so on. He thought it was a great game. Grin

And then he clearly became tired, said to himself 'Enough of this faffing around', dived into bed, went under the duvet and went to sleep.

The 'bed' was history. Wink

OP posts:
Weedsnseeds1 · 26/08/2017 15:21

Just so I can keep a chronological order here, is twoago the cat formerly known as oneago, now you have newboy? Or is twoago still twoago, despite technically being threeago now?

cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 15:32

He's still the same. (Although 'technically' Threeago.) Wink

OP posts:
prettybird · 26/08/2017 16:02

A couple of pictures of the kittens enjoying their cradle - and one of where OldGirl likes to sleep when laps are not available and before dh goes through to bed Grin Note the shawl put onto the radiator to make it more comfortable for her Wink

cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 16:21

How long do you have the radiators warm out of interest? (My problem is that the heating - come inclement weather - only goes on twice a day. Off at 21.30 for example.)

OP posts:
prettybird · 26/08/2017 16:36

Just twice a day - not at all at the moment (so the kittens are using them without the benefit of heating Confused). In winter and autumn and spring it's on for a couple of hours in the morning and about 4 hours in the evening.

But there again, I do live in Scotland Wink

cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 17:53

Much like me then. I never had to be concerned about Seniorboy - he just went into the bed (on top of his electric blanket) if the house was chilly.

OP posts:
Weedsnseeds1 · 26/08/2017 18:09

I would put good money on him finding somewhere warm to snuggle up if it gets cold, he's not daft!
I was working in Banff last week and although the weather was not exactly great, it wasn't really cold. He's having you on if he's saying he needs the heating on!! Smile

cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 20:39

He doesn't say anything about the temperature. I just .......worry. Smile
