Puccini isn't well at all

Fine yesterday , brought me a shrew first thing but didn't eat his breakfast and hasn't eaten since and can't tempt him with anything.

More worryingly he's been curled up in his basket since lunch time and can barely muster up a purr when I stroke him let alone any opera singingSad

I'm taking him to the vet first thing.

I'm sooo worried about him Sad

They were goners though?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/09/2016 22:16

Sort of half heartedly moving on the towel. I squashed them. They were tiny things so presumably just hatched.

I only have to wave the comb anywhere near the cat and he starts purring and climbs on to my lapGrin

He's so much better, ate and slept well and came for a cuddle this morning first thing.

2 dead fleas in his basket so he's obviously now a walking flea assassinGrin

Plans for today- hoovering and spraying and some more washing. Does anyone know if I have to spray wooden or stone tiled floors or just thoroughly hoover like I normally do?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 28/09/2016 09:54

It might depend. We have wooden floors (with rugs) but they're old ones and the boards rarely meet precisely. I tend to treat any bad cracks between boards as well as any gaps under skirting boards etc. (They're all actually good moth hangouts so I could often get a Twofer.) I generally hoover, then go for any cracks/gaps with a sharp blade to dislodge any debris - there's always some - then Hoover again. Then mop and dry and then spray cracks/gaps to taste if needed.

Spraying is not a regular occurrence here and if it were down to me, I'd almost certainly restrict myself to a good hoover and eg a mop of tile and close-laid wooden flooring. Your call, ultimately, but spraying might be a bit pointless if you're in the habit of hoovering and cleaning already.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 10:19

Thanks! That's pretty much what I've done,I'm hiding in the kitchen while it all dries. Need some more spray for the spare room so I've shut the door for the time being and just concentrated on his regular haunts and the whole of downstairs and his bedding and your room. The washing machine is on!

Vet just called- no crystals so was a horrendous bout of cystitis, poor boy.

Just ordering some Orijen Smile

Thanks to everyone who helped with advice ,really appreciate it Flowers

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 11:34

Is Orijen and Applaws considered 'dry' food or is it best of dried food iyswim? Or in a class of its own?

Trying to decide wether to go completely over to Orijen or just continue with Sheba and raw food and just swap the Iams for Orijen...

This is worse than FF/BB guilt Wink

OP posts:
RubbishMantra · 28/09/2016 12:14

They're both dry foods, but with a very high meat content, Applaws 80% and Orijen 75%.

I switch between these 2, and give Butchers Classic and Gourmet Cat Soup in the evening, with added water. Mine have never had pee-pipes problems. Lots of fresh water dotted about the house.

I'm so glad Puccini didn't have crystals, and is on the mend. And that he found you - he likely wouldn't have survived on the streets being so poorly.

Oh, and the fleas, it seems that they're biting him then dying. Impossible to catch a healthy flea - they just bounce off and away.

Cozie - I've not yet had to treat the house for fleas what do you do with the cats, and how long do you keep them away from flea sprayed area?

Wolfiefan · 28/09/2016 12:16

Bless him. Glad he's feeling better.
Grin at flea assassin!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 12:57

Right, thank you! I'll get some Applaws as I can get some in waitrose then bulk buy if he likes it and if he doesn't then try the Orijen. I'll carry on with raw and the occasional cat soup .

It's comforting to know the fleas were half dead- blerk!

I've just ordered some more spray.

The vet said to spray ,ventilate well then go out/ shut the door for an hour.

I inspected the contents on the Dyson and can't see any!

Still washing....Hmm

I've tried Butcher's Classic - he gave me the 'How very DARE you?' lookGrin

cozietoesie · 28/09/2016 13:38

Indirect - which is what I use - lasts a long time, Mantra. (A year or something?) I just do the room - generally just carpets etc and furnishings at risk - and then keep everyone out until it's aired and I'm happy going in myself. It's a roomy old house, though, so no difficulty putting certain areas temporarily out of commission.

cozietoesie · 28/09/2016 13:40

PS - but be darned careful if you have fish or similar.

cozietoesie · 28/09/2016 13:42

Indorex. (My autocorrect is striking a blow for freedom.)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 13:50

Yep, I'm spraying, shutting doors and keeping windows and doors wide open.

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 13:52

I took the rugs and mats I could lift and sprayed then put the them on the line.

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 14:14

And yes,Indorex lasts 12 months. I think I'll be making it an annual occurrence I think. Just have the cat a comb through- nothing today!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 15:20

Oh dear God just combed him again and found a minute half dead one - how are they STILL there? Pleeeeeeease let that be the last one!

OP posts:
RubbishMantra · 28/09/2016 15:28

You could try Puccini on Kitten Applaws, as you said he's on the slender side? It has a higher calorie and nutrient content than the adult version. Just until he reaches his ideal weight, then switch to the adult version.

Ta both for the advice about flea spraying.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 15:59

I will, thank you. He's taking the cytstaid!!! Mixed dry food with boiling water and left it to go soggy. Really tucking into it!!

I've got a bite on my ankle, I actually want to cry and am very close to ringing pest control peopleSad

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 28/09/2016 16:19

The sprayed stuff will do for them in combination. (I seem to recall that it goes for all life stages.) Chin up. Smile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 16:21

Thanks. I'm a bit Monica from Friends at the best of times so finding all this a bit hard ( if you hadn't already guessed Blush)

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/09/2016 16:22

SO pleased he ate the Cytstaid, what a relief!

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 28/09/2016 16:29

Have you got any soap in the house? (You have to ask these days.) if so, leave a bar with a little bit of water underneath it so that it goes nice and soft. Then if you see a blighter, Whammo in with the soap and they'll stick to it. Even though they may be in their final throes, you don't need any last bites. Only way to get them, realistically.

PS - don't use soap directly on the cat. Let his treatment take care of any last remaining blighters.

And the spray. Smile
