Fine yesterday , brought me a shrew first thing but didn't eat his breakfast and hasn't eaten since and can't tempt him with anything.

More worryingly he's been curled up in his basket since lunch time and can barely muster up a purr when I stroke him let alone any opera singingSad

I'm taking him to the vet first thing.

I'm sooo worried about him Sad

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that Dame.

Sending healing thoughts to Puccini. I hope he's back at home singing soon. x

cozietoesie · 24/09/2016 12:10

Poor lad.

Keep us informed, Dame.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2016 12:18

Ok,i won't use a few collar. There's no sign of fleas apart from the little specks on his fur. Not seen one in the house and no bites and we all get bitten like crazy if anything bitey is around Confused I've got some sort for the house, got it from wilkos. Just done one room- only another 6 to go! I'm washing everything, good job the weather is nice it's all flapping on the line.

Thanks you lot Smile

My cat used to get regular uti's . She is now in a special diet called c/d which has worked so far ( she has been on it about 3 months)... it's not cheap but not mega expensive as you buy in bulk .

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2016 12:34

We spend a fortune on Sheba/ raw food etc anyway so I doubt it'll be more than that. They'll know if he needs a diet after they send a sample to the lab. I hope it's not his food as it's taken ages to find what he likes and he starves himself rather than eat what he doesn't like.

I got him some cat soup if he's peckish laterGrin

If he has struvite crystals and needs special c/d food, if I remember correctly, Petplan will pay out for 3 months worth of food and obviously will pay out for medication.

Hope your kitty isn't too unwell but I would agree "thank fuck for insurance".

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2016 14:08

Just had a call from the vet- eating and responsive, can pick him up at 4.30- phew!!

I'm not with pet plan... I'll have to dig out the paper work, I can't remember the name.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/09/2016 14:52

Phew!

Your house is too quiet without him isn't it?.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2016 14:53

It really is,I didn't realise just what a big character he is for a skinny little catGrin

Hoping he's home soon. Any chance he's eaten some dried food he shouldn't have? My boy had a UTI. no recurrence thankfully.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2016 15:25

Just lost my post so forgive me if it posts twice!

He has Sheba pouches, raw food 3xaweek and Iams in a bowl whenever he's peckish. It's meant to encourage good UT health and keep teeth healthy according to the packet.

cozietoesie · 24/09/2016 16:01

I wouldn't be surprised if he'd tried to eat a whole young rabbit or something in one go. Do you know if he's a hunter when he goes out?

allsfairinlove · 24/09/2016 16:01

So glad to hear he's doing OK and coming home!

Mistoffelees · 24/09/2016 16:16

I was really worried about a UTI my cat had not too long back and got great advice on petforums.co.uk our cat now has food I buy online but the c/d was mentioned also. Hope Puccini is back to full health soon!

Wolfiefan · 24/09/2016 16:54

Hmm. I can't remember but I think it was IAMS we used when boy cat had his episode. But it was years ago.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2016 19:18

I don't know what I was expecting but he's really illl stillSad he's got a shaved leg for the IV which makes him look worse. He came home and he got into his basket and went straight to also and hasn't moved since . Won't eat , although the vet said he had a bit of dried food. Won't take his medicine either so I think we'll be back at the vet tomorrow.

Apparently no live fleas on him just the dirt. They tried to sell me stuff for the house that was 25 quid as they said everything else was rubbish and wouldn't work. As there's no evidence in the house at ALL I'll just get that stuff mentioned upthread tomorrow.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 24/09/2016 19:29

Oh no. Would he be tempted by any wet food? Can you get him to drink anything?

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/09/2016 19:31

Let him have a rest and try him with some chicken later. He's been through loads today.

Is it a uti or a blockage?.

I'd scrap the dry food.

Mistoffelees · 24/09/2016 19:47

Our cat was down for about a week with his UTI, he had to have medicine in a syringe I think, can't quite remember now. We also scrapped dry food for two weeks to make sure he was well hydrated and now he's on two big wet meals a day and some biscuits to tide him over during the day.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2016 20:11

He just got up, staggered over to his new litter tray and did a pee!!! Hooray, took him a while but at least he did it.

I've left his favourite cat soup down,he might want it later. I'm not giving him any more dried food atm.

I'll talk to the vet tomorrow about his meds, one is a urine neutraliser and the other is Metacam (?) Which is a pain killer iirc.

He's sleeping again now. I have some chicken if he's interested for later.

Feel less like crying hysterically nowHmm

One of ours was in for a week with a blocked urethra, all three are now on Royal Canin urinary food - bill was 2 grand, thank goodness for insurance! Was rather annoyed as in 20 years of cat owning, vets have always pushed dry food - now they're on wet twice a day with added water, and urinary dry food as a top up. Hope your boy feels better soon.

SuburbanRhonda · 24/09/2016 20:43

Metacam is a very common painkiller. It has to be given in food which makes it tricky if your cat is off its food. One of my elderly cats has to have it every day to manage the pain of hip dysplasia - I squirt the dose into her food from the syringe and I think she gets the right dose on average around four times a week. It seems enough.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2016 20:45

I will start adding water too, good idea. Do you give the Royal Canin freely?
