Fine yesterday , brought me a shrew first thing but didn't eat his breakfast and hasn't eaten since and can't tempt him with anything.

More worryingly he's been curled up in his basket since lunch time and can barely muster up a purr when I stroke him let alone any opera singingSad

I'm taking him to the vet first thing.

I'm sooo worried about him Sad

I hear it's worse. Not the whole reason we don't want them.

Mistoffelees · 25/09/2016 10:14

What food are you trying him with OP? Sometimes they just need something really stinky to get their appetite going, if you mash some hot water into some wet food it will make it nice and smelly and might be a bit more tempting.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 11:53

I tried turkey and he purses his little catty lips but just tried some chicken and he ate quite a bit!!! First food since FridayShock I had to feed him it while he was in his basket but who cares,at least he ate. He got up and kept pawing at the cat flap and couldn't work out why it wouldn't open,i plonked him on the cat litter again and we has a wee . Now he's sleeping again. Huge improvement on yesterday.

Toddler- actually I was just musing that I haven't felt this sort of stress since ds was born prem and in scbu!!

He loved me grooming him with a damp flannel, got all purry and soppy. He smells a bit nicer now.

I'd just keep going with the chicken until he's got his appetite back then, better that he's eating something. It's also a good sign he wants to go out, sounds like he's on the mend!

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/09/2016 12:02

Sounds as if he's perking up slowly. Hope he's back to normal soon.

RubbishMantra · 25/09/2016 13:11

Phew, sounds like he's over the worst, and just needs time to recuperate.

Fact that he's peeing is good.

Have you got one of those hand blender gadgets? You could whiz up the chicken soup, maybe with a bit of extra poached chicken and the poaching water, so he either lap it up or use the syringe to feed him. Or if he likes fish, you could so the same with tinned tuna in spring water.

RubbishMantra · 25/09/2016 13:26

*Oh, and thank goodness he found you to adopt him.

I wonder if the pee-pipes problems were caused by him living on the street beforehand, therefore not getting enough water and eating whatever scraps he could find? Which would have been loaded with salt, like all take away food.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 13:32

Well there's a thought, it might be and the Iams might have just been a bit too much on top of that.

Looking back he hasn't been right for ages,he kept licking himself, it'll be interesting to see if that stops now. He's flat out in his basket now!

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 13:33

Yes I have a whizzer so I can give that a go.

Dh is going to get him some Lick - E - Licks stuff to see if he likes that.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 25/09/2016 13:53

Judging by The Lodger's teeth, street food is loaded with sugar as well, Mantra. Wink

RubbishMantra · 25/09/2016 14:03

Licking their 'intimate area' over-zealously is a definite sign of pee pipes problems.

And Iams is one of the dry foods that can cause UTIs/blockages.

If he likes a crunch, try Applaws or Orijen, both can be bought online. Zooplus are generally the cheapest. If he likes wet food, maybe consider putting on a mostly wet diet with a bit of added water, alongside a handful of biscuits for him to snack on.

Animonda Carny is a good wet food, big chunks of heart for him to chew on. Can also be bought from Zooplus.

I must admit, I've fallen in love a little bit with your descriptions of Puccini. Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 14:04

Fortunately his teeth are ok!

He's ventured out of his basket and his sunning himself in front of the French windows.

Rubbish- when you say biscuits, what do you mean? Thanks for the other info, will look into it. Seriously considering raw food atm !

Has he made any noises when having his pees, recently?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 14:29

No,peed last night and twice today and seemed fine. I don't know about normally as he uses our garden.

RubbishMantra · 25/09/2016 14:37

Biscuits = dry food, or kibble, like Iams

I've been thinking about raw for my boys. Nature's Menu do 'nuggets', where all you do is count out the amount your cat needs, by cat's ideal weight, and defrost them the night before. They have all the added nutrients, so no faff with adding anything else.

You can get bigger bags online which work out cheaper, but probably best to try him on a taster bag first? And I'd think they do other flavours.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 14:41

I think I worked out fresh beef and frozen fish was cheaper than the fresh nuggets you defrost but I can look into it more as they'd be handy to have in the freezer.

Dame, ignore the previous link I posted, that's food for dogs, they do both.

Natures Menu.

Mistoffelees · 25/09/2016 14:49

If you're going down the raw food route he will need something loaded with taurine, chicken hearts are very good for this apparently. I really would recommend having a look over on www.petforums.co.uk/forums/cat-health-and-nutrition.9/ as it had loads of advice when I changed the diet of our cat.

RubbishMantra · 25/09/2016 14:59

The only thing is, with just raw meat, added powdered nutrients, and ground bone to muscle/offal ratio are necessary. Apparently.

The Bengal cat forums are very clued up on this. But they scare Fluffy, who doesn't strike me as a woman easily scared.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 15:01

Yes, have been reading about taurine/ chicken hearts.

Thanks for all the links so far, I'll have a proper read when I'm less tired and can absorb it properly.Flowers

Puccini just jumped up to his high cat bed/tree- it's 6ft! Obviously that minute bit of chicken did the trick!

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/09/2016 16:17

Oh god the Bengal cat forum raw feeders. Like the NCT breastapo but covered in cat hair.

Knowledgeable but batshit.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 16:20

Might give that a miss thenGrin

Been away overnight, but came dashing in here on returning home to see how the opera singing boycat is doing. We've had a cat fountain for years which seems to encourage water consumption (have had two CRF cats we're all too aware of the need to facilitate drinking) I really recommend them.
As some of the lovely ladies of the litter tray know, we're currently walking the tightrope path of what best to feed our two (new kitten has a very tricky bowel) We are steadily tending towards raw, and seem to be having success with Purrform- www.purrform.co.uk/ It's in sachets so easily portioned and defrosts in about 20 mins. Our 9 year old Birman girlcat who has been on Hills (by and large) until new kitten's advent, adores it (phew) When I say "tending" we aren't quite there yet, as the kitten still has a touch of diarrhoea, but I suspect that might be because we were mixed feeding with Royal Canin Gastro, which has cereals in it. I think it's the cereals which the kitten can't tolerate so we're on day three of exclusively raw. Watch this space.
Give your gorgeous boy a tickle behind the ears from me. I hope he's completely chipper really soon.
