When we collected our old (and now late) cat from the rescue centre they described him as a 'bruiser'. So that was his name. Bruiser... or Bruce for short.

Toffee.

My youngest son named her. It really does suit her.

she isn't toffee coloured or anything Grin this is her. She likes to sleep cradled in my arms like a baby.

SNOOZE. It's what the rescue centre called her to differentiate from the hyper cat who arrived at the same time!

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2015 20:07

DS named ours. He is a big ginger bruiser called Scipio Africatus, which is a pun on the name of DS's favourite Roman general, Scipio Africanus.

He goes by Skippy as his full name is a bit of a mouthful Grin

Love the picture of Toffee.

velocityofbeans · 05/07/2015 20:09

We have Lucky, only kitten out of the litter to survive, and Casey, named by me after a character played by my favourite actor. We used to have Emily Heskey too, named by DS when a 10yr old footy fan.

zombiemeow · 05/07/2015 20:09

Thing. (Like off the Adams family)

I brought him as a girl and he had a very girly name, when he went to the vets for the snip, they told me she was a he Blush

SmokingGun · 05/07/2015 20:09

This is Loki

In Norse mythology he is the God of mischief Grin

Our cats were named by their mum's owner. She's a Harry Potter fan so the ginger boy is Ron Grin And the black girl is Mamba. The names seem to suit them so we kept them!

FenellaFellorick · 05/07/2015 20:14

oooh, he's lovely. Is he a bengal?

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 05/07/2015 20:14

Brian. We lived next door to cats called Norman, Ernie, Sidney and Eric and felt inspired.

BibiBlocksbergv2 · 05/07/2015 20:17

Aw, beautiful names & Cats!

I've never gotten to choose my cats names yet, all rescues who arrived ready 'branded' - always felt wrong to change their main name as figured they would have gotten used to the sound by the time they came to me.

:)

If i had kittens i'd name them Merry & Pippin - saw those two on a house share advert the other day

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/07/2015 20:19

Eponine, after the character in Les Mis.
Jemima, just love the name
Matilda, see above.
Zazzles, we weren't keeping him so gave him a silly name after the Big Bang theory when Sheldon gets lots of cats, then we kept him, and he is very Zazzy

BibiBlocksbergv2 · 05/07/2015 20:20

Nope, changed my mind, i want a Brian now - and i'll give my surname as Blessed at the vets just for the satisfaction of hearing them call that out in the waiting room :)

I used to work with a guy who owned a turtle called Barry - last name Arnold.

The thought of the call for Barry Arnold keeps me amused on dull days :)

Madamacadamia · 05/07/2015 20:23

My (Abyssinian) cat was called Otto by previous owners (who emigrated). It suited his imperious nature very well, but I wanted something a bit more friendly and familiar (ie cuddly) , so re-named him Teddy.

I had an already-resident second cat, named Kitty thru lack of imagination on my part. Turned out that she was easily dominated by Otto/Teddy, so decided her name was appropriate after all.

Dreamiesrcatopium · 05/07/2015 20:25

Poppy.I just thought it was sweer. This was nine years ago before it was a really popular cat name! My Mum suggested tuppence... That convo was amusing!

Here's a pic of our as-yet-unnamed and probably a girl kitty.

selina as in selina kyle, catwoman. dp is a huge batman fan

MagicalHamSandwich · 05/07/2015 20:30

Sir John though he goes by Johnny. Inspired by a character in a play that he reminded me of when I got him.

ToGrapefruit · 05/07/2015 20:31

I love this thread! I'm the same as BibiBlocks, have never changed my cats names that they came with, but they all suited them so well!

First were Bigcat and Littlecat who lived to grand old ages (named for obvious reasons)

Then Ginger who died last year aged about 17, he was my favourite (named for obvious reasons again!)

Now I have a Pierre! It suits him so well, he's black and sleek and stylish and beautiful with massive green eyes. He's also VERY simple/foolish, and is struggling to learn to use his cat flap. No progress for some months! Love him to bits. He caught me 2 large moths today and after I took them off him, he chased his tale for about 15 minutes.

GeraldineFangedVagine · 05/07/2015 20:32

Ours is Bonnie as he used to be a girl. It doesn't suit him, he's a vicious old man now as opposed to a nasty young beast. I fear that he has spent the last 12 years rebelling against his name ;)

ItsMeMario · 05/07/2015 20:33

We called our cat "Cat". She was a rescue cat and me and DH couldn't agree on a name. She was known as "The Cat" for weeks and then we noticed that she was responding to it so it stuck!

Dreamiesrcatopium · 05/07/2015 20:33

I would so call her Nelly! On account if her gorgeous big ears! Pops was nearly Norma as her eyebrows are massive (norman lemont sp)

BippityBoppity · 05/07/2015 20:35

Our cat is Sushi - we let her name herself by trying out different names and that was the first one that she responded to twice

Tutt · 05/07/2015 20:36

3 rescue cats.
Ginger boy is Fly, DS named him and as DS was only 5 at the time I thought it was a good name.
Tabby girl is Tiz now known as Moo.
Black and white boy Squeak as our other 2 are part Siamese and extremely vocal, Squeak didn't even have a meow when we rescued him but tried so hard to talk to us that it was the most pitiful squeak!! He now screechs like a strangled seal!

LadyEnglefield · 05/07/2015 20:36

Sparks. We got him as a kitten at Christmas and he kept trying to eat the lights on the tree.

Totally misnamed as he's anything but a bright spark.

givemushypeasachance · 05/07/2015 20:38

My pair are Monty & Rolo. Before cats I spent several years keeping gerbils and named them for breakfast foods - Shreddie, Fruit Loops, Muesli, Bagel, Benedict (for the eggs!). So I leant towards establishing a new "theme" and heard about a cat called Twix which I thought was super cute. So picked chocolates - Rolo being self explanatory, and Monty being partly for Monty Bojangles which is a company that makes delicious fudge and truffles, and partly Montezuma a maker of further delicious chocolates.

They're sometimes called Ro-Ro and Monticles. A monticle is a small mound or hillock, and that amuses me. Grin
