When we collected our old (and now late) cat from the rescue centre they described him as a 'bruiser'. So that was his name. Bruiser... or Bruce for short.

We have one cat, a 1 year old boy called Benji. He was a stray cat found in a place called Ethel Benjamin Place in our city, apart from the fact Ethel is an awful name he is a boy and we felt Benjamin was naff, so we decided on Benji.

Fred and Barney ( after the flintstones)
Poppy because I liked it
Kimi and Mika ( after f1 racing drivers)

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 06/07/2015 07:30

Billy-can't remember why.
And Mac, aka Caramac as that's his colouring, shortened to Mac, lengthened to Smackhead (as he is a dopey fucker) shortened to Smacky.

BleepingSooty · 06/07/2015 07:46

Tom as in Major Tom as he has a moustache. MNers helped me name him and Miki as that was the name she had at the rescue. I do wonder if we should have changed it to Jerry though.

We have Tybalt who DP named just because he liked it. He is a black and white short hair. We usually call him Tibbs or Mr Tibbs or Nibbs for some reason!

Josie (Tybalts sister) named after the Big Brother contestant as we don't live far from her and DD loved her. She is a little tortoiseshell with one ginger tipped ear.

Bella who is named after Bella Swan in Twilight (DD again). She is the mother of Josie and Tibbs and a very beautiful tortoiseshell. She is in the middle of moving in with another family and she only comes in for food now and again. She hates her kittens and won't tolerate them near her and the other family have no other pets so she is pampered by them and she seems happy. I'm giving it until the end of the summer to see where she wants to be then change the details on her microchip to theirs if she stays with them and stop feeding her (sad) Still, it would be nice to have one less cat to front-line and de-worm!

Blackie, short for Blackerton. He just sort of moved in with us when he was a kitten, unchipped and unreported as lost. He would just walk in the patio door and lie on the sofa. We didn't name him anything at first because we weren't sure he wouldn't disappear back to where he came from then one day he walked in and DD said "look mummy, it's that Blackerton again" and it stuck! 5 years later and he's still here, collecting dried leaves and baby slugs in his long fur and growling at us when we brush them out!

This is meow! This is what happens when you let a two year old name a cat!
I want her to have a proper name but I can't find any that I like.

I have a PicklePig. He's Pickle because my husband calls me Pickle Bum, I have no idea why, so the cat became Pickle, and Pig because all my cats have had the suffix 'Pig', I've had GuinnessPig, BluePig and MuppetPig.
GuinnessPig's full name was GuinnessPig Miaow Miaow Miaow.

Of course it was :)
PicklePig had many names though. PickPockPig, Colonel Handsome & Pickleton McPoggery to name but a few.
He was called Smokey when we got him from Battersea. But he's black and white. Surely Smokey should be a grey cat?

Dudley, named after the lovely mechanic who rescued him from under my car bonnet Grin

sashh · 06/07/2015 11:27

AlpacaPicnic The Hardy boys?

Min is a stray found by a neighbour, so she was Spot or Mystery Cat for a while, then Misty, and now...

Her Mistyness, Marquesa Gatta Mysteriosa, hunter of legs. She is still Misty on a day to day basis.

sashh · 06/07/2015 11:31

I love naming animals smile like to come up with unusual names

It's good to have animals whose names you don't have to shout for unusual names.

I had mice

Zaphod Beeblebroz
Slarty Bartfast
Prncess Superstar and
Dr Squeak

GrouchyKiwi · 06/07/2015 11:55

Our brother kittens are called Gilbert Brush and Sullivan Hush.

DD1 wanted to call them Brush and Hush after the Colour Kittens. DH wanted to call them Gilbert and Sullivan. So we compromised.

They are cute, even though I don't like cats.

Our cats are Jaffa - large round ginger tom.

Ichabod - jet black stray and it just suited him, he's sadly no longer with us.

Then came Tansy, who had to have a flower name as she was living in a flower pot. She had three kittens that we named Imp, Pixie and Tinkerbell. We kept Tinkerbell but shortened her name to Tinker or Tinks (usually Stinker.)

Then along came another tiny little stray sleeping in our wood store like a frightened mouse, so she became Mouse. (Always fun to shout mouse and see the cat come running though!)

Finally we ended up with a beautiful grey and white tom who had been dumped and lived as a feral for eighteen months, we called him Gandalf because of the grey and white, but he gets Alfie all the time.

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 06/07/2015 16:50

We have Portia (as she is haughty, dainty and looks like she is about to give a speech at any moment)

Ophelia, and Oberon... Ophie and Obie :)

Previous love of my life was Morpheus the greek god of dreams.

DD2 said we had to go for a Shakespearean theme when we got Obie and Ophie and I have to say it suits them!

pinkchampagne1 · 06/07/2015 20:17

This is my little Bertie. I just loved the name and my grandad was an Albert

AlpacaPicnic · 06/07/2015 20:29

sashh, that's right! We loved WWE back along. I've grown out of it now, but DH is still keeping up with it.

AlpacaPicnic · 06/07/2015 20:30

Oh grouchy, they are adorable! And I love the names. I wish I'd given my cats double barrelled names...

zukiecat · 06/07/2015 20:51

We have Zukie, named by DD1 when she was very into McFly, and Dougie had a pet lizard called Zukie.

Also have Miley, Zukie's sister named by DD2 when Miley Cyrus was still innocent Hannah Montana!

Then we got Merlin, named by DD1 as we both like Arthurian things.

We just got Alice on Saturday, our sweet little kitten, and named by DD2 as she likes all things Alice In Wonderland.

mrscee · 06/07/2015 21:01

Our black cat is called Nigel, he came from the RSPCA with that name and we just kept it. it suits him although still feels weird shouting it in the garden when it's food time lol!

RubbishMantra · 06/07/2015 23:15

We have an Izzle. A moniker bestowed on him by the little boy who's family he came from.

We have a gregarious little Devon Rex called Avey Tare, named after a musician. I have wondered if he should have been called Loki though...

Grin at your Prince Charming, peas!

GRW · 07/07/2015 08:21

Mine are Molly (tortoiseshell girl 18 now) because she came from the RSPCA with that name and was 5 years old so we didn't change it, although my parents had a dog with the same name.
James ( ginger boy) My DD was 7 when we got him as a kitten and named him after her friend. It suits him.
Seren (tabby 1 year old) I gave her a Welsh name as she was given to me by a family member in Wales who had taken her on then wanted to rehome her. He called her Blod.
My neighbour has a huge white British Shorthair called Hermes which suits him.

trinitybleu · 07/07/2015 18:23

mine are too identifiable!

WhenMarnieWasThere · 07/07/2015 22:09

We have decided on a name!

Bailey. Good for a girl or a boy as we still aren't sure yet. and after my love of Baileys .

OP posts:
GraceK · 07/07/2015 22:36

Our first was named Huffkin after a house near my parents.

The latest two have the boys names we didn't use with our two DD's - Boris & Horatio (the latter I hasten to add would have been the middle name).

Butterflywings168 · 08/07/2015 00:09

Pippi (Longstocking). Rescue cat so not my choice but I kind of like it, it suits her. Ex owner chose it as she has little white socks and then stripy legs Grin (tortie). I couldn't think of another name anyway and felt it was mean to change. She recognises it -when she wants to, which is not when I call her in for the night. Unless I rattle the Dreamies Grin

addicted2cake · 12/07/2015 08:25

Crumble. Her brother was custard but died years ago. Nn crummy!
