Couldn't resist after reading they are the most unpopular colour on another thread. Here is my little black man who has a small white patch on his chest. He is the most sleek and handsomest cat who chose us at his foster home and I love him to bits.

His sister who is a tabby is nowhere near as affectionate or sophisticated as my boy, I just don't understand why they are overlooked. (I do love my tabby as well, she just isn't as cool!)

I have a lovely black cat with a little white on his chest. It always makes me feel sad when I read that they are the least popular.
My boy is so gentle and so affectionate. I don't see how anyone could not want a black cat of their very own Smile

my people.

I have a black rescue boy who is nearly four, he is so handsome.
we adore him. Just recently he has been scavenging for chocolate or biscuit crumbs, so we are being very careful he doesn't eat anything like that.

He talks alot, and kisses on the lips ( i know i know, but he likes it!)

i am loving all these cats, we have two B&W cats over the road.

One is a small female who comes running if you call her for a fuss & a "who's a pretty girl? You are, aren't you? Yes you are" & a bigger male who is my cats nemesis but they co-exist now in a "can't beat em, join em" way, he won't come to you. He gives you a look that suggests you a known cat murderer and best avoided.

I watched them chasing a mouse in the summer & the female biffed the male when he got too close to it so she's the boss. She does a runner when it's my cat fighting the boy though. She is very sensible.

We also have black cats here. I fuss any cat who'll come to me.

One day I will have a rescue called Georgie. Or two. I'm going to ask for the one no one wants.

Black cats rule! Here are my two little stinkers Grin
I would choose black cats every time although I do reluctantly concede that most of my photos are black blobs with yellow eyes!

Loving these photos. My childhood cats were both black with yellow eyes.

Bonzocat just fell off the radiator! DH scared her by throwing me a Wispa. She falls quite often for a cat, not always landing on her feet. She was the runt of the litter and the vet thinks she's probably not quite 100% neurologically. But we love her.

JellyDots · 05/04/2015 21:24

Jellycat! Also thinks she is a dog! She was part of a litter found in my neighbours shed, sent to mend our broken hearts after our 15yr old black boy died. Her sisters were like fluffy Sheba cats, but we took the black one because it felt right. She is awesome!
Took the Dcs to the shelter for their Easter activities yesterday and they had 10 black or black and white cats in, and lots of posters talking about how they were the least popular choice. DS is still most upset about it.

I love the tongue poking out, like she's had too much to drink and is sleeping it off.

"Here's one of mine that I'm currently fostering but no one wants"

That's really shocking and depressing, TCN, that cat looks like s/he has bags of personality and s/he has gorgeous markings. I have a bit of a weakness for black and whites; our beloved first cat nearly twenty years ago was mainly black with white markings and it hurt dreadfully when he went missing and was never found. Chipping wasn't common then (at least where we lived).

I wonder if it's the same in other countries that black and black/white are less popular. We're in Germany and were looking for the right personality not a certain colour from the shelter. It just so happened that a tabby fitted our criteria first (outdoor cat suitable for a family with older children) - and in fact he'd already been overlooked for a few months because he was so shy with strangers that he was always overlooked by prospective adopters. I think a more forward, confident black and white would actually have had better chances of being picked first because people think the cat has chosen them specifically.

I keep getting drawn back to this thread to look at the beautiful pictures!

BigcatLittlecat · 05/04/2015 22:26

This is my little rescue cat! I love her but she loves DH more! She had a dreadful start to life but she knows all is good now. Black cat s rule!

I could just eat all these gorgeous kitties up with a spoon!

I have three kitty boys..one sleek black Monsieur.. He is v. elegant..

Mister Man is a true Jellico cat..very merry and bright..

My Mittens is the mirror image of MM..gentle and fey. He is like a whisp around the house..careful with strangers and small children..

ipswichwitch · 05/04/2015 22:29

Aw! All these fabulous pics! I'll have to get on the proper computer for some pics of my 2 black and white cats. I miss them something rotten :( one we lost last April and the other a few years ago. We're planning on getting another when DS2 is a bit older. I love b&w cats, and can't believe they're not a popular colour.

Outofyourmouth · 05/04/2015 22:40

Our white & black rescue boy stretching out on Dd1 bed Smile. Most other cats are tabby around us so he's a bit unusual!

Aw... They all sound like such lovely characters!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 05/04/2015 22:52

Cat the part time bat.

He also has 3 legs.

I met another all black cat with 3 legs the other day. Clearly they are very lucky to survive what might finish off a mere tabby!

The implication that PicklePig is somehow 'knowing' is hilarious. He's possibly the thickest cat to ever walk the earth. One of his many nicknames is 'Buttons' because usually his eyes look like buttons. Nothing behind them at all. Just blank space.
This is his usual facial expression :)

He looks sort of kind though.

Here's a photo of mine in a bow tie.

Ours is black and white. Very affectionate. A bit thick and a hopeless hunter. She rolled off the table today so great was her enjoyment of a good roll. Numpty!

Lonecatwithkitten · 06/04/2015 11:33

This is the tail less wonder in her previous life she was tolerated as a baby making machine who produced tabby kittens, but when injured not treated as she was only a black one.
Fortunately she was helped to escape from that life and I provided emergency treatment that saved her life. She is now valued for the beautiful individual she is though with no tail now.
The second picture is of another black cat who I helped save. He was found a stray with a horrific open fracture that had gangrene. We amputated his leg and removed his testicles. He gradually learned what a special cat he was, sadly for the 6 months he was at CPL no-one else could see this. Then one of our amazing clients popped in to say she was ready for a knew cat did we know of any, of course we dispatched her straight to CPL where she was able to see the Prince he is. Two years later he has a new name (think black prince) and is adored.
I am actively trying to save the black/black and white cats one by one.

aww Rubbish what a gorgeous cat!

BIWI · 06/04/2015 12:43

I hate to think of any cat not being treated well, or abandoned just because of their colour Sad
