Couldn't resist after reading they are the most unpopular colour on another thread. Here is my little black man who has a small white patch on his chest. He is the most sleek and handsomest cat who chose us at his foster home and I love him to bits.

His sister who is a tabby is nowhere near as affectionate or sophisticated as my boy, I just don't understand why they are overlooked. (I do love my tabby as well, she just isn't as cool!)

Our big bear, unimpressed in his Santa hat.

HemanOrSheRa, please forgive me for shuffling off topic, but I thought you might find amusing, given your username.

tipsytrifle · 05/04/2015 13:54

Isn't it absolutely astounding and kind of supernatural/cosmic how they really do choose us? How events bring us to the exact place and time when The Cat or Kitten needs to meet us?

So loving these beautiful photos and the love people, Real Proper People, have for their companions. It's easy to get very grumpy and dismissive of humans when you see so much beauty rejected and hurt. This thread reminds me that it isn't all like that by any means. Thank you.

BigSpotty - click the first Browse box below the chat box and then click on where you keep your cat pics. Choose your cat pic (mine are chaotic so had to open them on my pc to find which number jpg it was) then click on the specific image number or name. It will zoom into that browse button area by magic. It won't show on preview, so you have to post and hope it works!

Here is my baby.
How could anyone not love her?

I don't understand why black cats are unpopular. I think they're beautiful. These are all gorgeous.

RubbishMantra · 05/04/2015 13:59

You're right Tipsy. I never understand why people choose a cat for their colouring.

Why would it even matter?

Honeybear30 · 05/04/2015 14:00

I didn't know black and white was unpopular until I went to collect my cat from cats protection. I went with the aim of 'pick the cat that no one wants'. She had been there for over two years and was only four years old at the time. I love my tuxedo cat!

Well there's enough on this thread to start tipping the balance.

Rescue puss was black and white. I like all black cats too.

Here are my 3 reprobates when they were tiny - the white/tabby is Fidget, the grey tabby is Lady Jane (because she's grey) and the black/white is Mr Fluffypants. Despite being a girl. All sisters.

Fluffypants is the friendliest and most pliable of the three - DD drags her around and dresses her up in Build A Bear dresses and she just lets it happen with a 'why me' look on her face. Can't understand why people don't want black/black & white cats. Although she does like sleeping in the black washing pile, which puts her in danger of being trodden on.

Catneuterer, I'm completely ungrounded by the tabby observation. I thought she was black with a few grey bits! But yes, looking at other black cats here, she isn't is she?

BlackHillsofDakota · 05/04/2015 17:32

Well it was the thread I started stating I wanted a grey that started this, I do however have these 2 boys already both of them were rescues

I heard the reason they are unpopular at the moment is because they don't photograph well in selfies. I think all your cats look good though!

RubbishMantra · 05/04/2015 17:40

Ah, and they're beautiful Dakota. Smile

I always thought PipbinCat was a tortie! Interesting how their colours change over the seasons.

Greymalkin · 05/04/2015 17:42

I'm place marking until I canursuade my boy to pose for a picture (I may be some time...)

fuzzywuzzy · 05/04/2015 17:44

Our two boys are gorgeous. Lost one this morning and was going frantic looking for him, till I felt eyes on me... Looked up and saw two big green eyes staring out the cupboard watching me looking under the chair for him!

They're both gorgeous and long suffering letting my youngest pick them up & snuggle them.

One thinks he's a tiger and pounces on invisible prey a lot. They both adore soft fleecy coverings and both commandeer anything soft left lying around. They do wiggly snakey rolling around dances on the floor when they see us in the morning leaving clumps of hair behind.

Love them both. And they both love cheese!

HemanOrSheRa · 05/04/2015 17:54

fuzzywuzzy you mentioning green eyes reminded me of this picture of my cat stalking my dog. It's my favourite 'It's Behind Me Isn't It?' photo.

Here is my gorgeous girl Maisy. Adopted her two years ago, like other people on this thread, she chose us. Came up to the glass in her little pen purring away and wanting a fuss. She is so friendly and sweet and I love her little rectangle on her chest. Can't understand why someone would overlook her for her colouring :(

We currently have two very pale ginger cats and by accident a dog with the same colouring (he looks like a small yellow lab). I wonder if people thought we picked them to match our carpet or some other dumb reason? In truth it was all quite accidental, the cats were chosen independently at the rescue because they were friendly and then turned out to be siblings (and actually not that friendly!) and the dog was from the only litter going (same rescue).

We've have a few cats in the past of all colours, one ginger and white, two tabby and white, one tabby all over and my favourite and first black and white bagpuss cat. From back in the dark ages before photos were digital.

sparkysparkysparky · 05/04/2015 18:32

They all seem to be black or black and white round our way. In fact we call them "[Insert town name ] black and whites". Our lovely old girl died recently and we will be looking for a new addition in late summer. I heard about the prejudice that black/black and whites get and it's daft. We'll get the one that chooses us and if they are black / black and white, I hope we'll recognise them in the crowd out and about around here.

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2015 18:47

I grew up with an enormous, squidgy, feisty, fabulous, black & white cat. He was lovely. My mum got him when she was pregnant with me, and he died just before my 18th birthday, so he was there throughout my whole childhood.

I wish I had a photo to show you all.

Funnily enough, the other cat we had at the same time was a pretty little blue/grey female with white paws & chin. She was gorgeous. Funny to think that she'd now be considered a fashionable colour.

I currently have a ginger & a tabby & white. Both of them kind of fell into our lives, we didn't (& wouldn't) have chosen them for their colour.

GerundTheBehemoth · 05/04/2015 18:48

My two long-term foster cats were both b&w. Pickle's the mostly white and Mittens the mostly black (I did not choose their names!). They both had serious health issues that eventually did for them (cancer and renal failure) but they lived happily with me for 3 years and 2 years respectively. If I'm ever in a position to take on a cat of my own I'd go for a black cat, because they're overlooked and they also happen to be my favourites.

I had no idea that black cats were unpopular either!

Here are ours this morning - they've just discovered our bed. 9 weeks old now.
