Fuck, my cat is gone and it's all my fault

Girlcat escaped from her carrier outside the vets and was over the nearest fence and gone before I could grab her. It was my fault, I didn't clip it up properly. The vets is 7 miles away. We searched for a couple of hours with no luck. I'm doing some posters and leaflets. I just want her home. She's chipped at least so someone might find her and take her to the vets.

You could record him miaowing on your phone/ipad and play it while you call her.

I've heard a radio show where a rescue did that to catch mum cats when they'd got the kittens but needed to get mum.

Meant to say earlier, look up trees in the vicinity. Go in daylight and look up, especially tall hard to climb ones, call in a normal speaking voice at each one (like you were calling her into the kitchen for her dinner) then be really quiet and listen.

Fear can get them up a tree that they genuinely can't get down and three times I've known cats be stuck up trees for days (once was mine, two days) and one of those was up a tree for nearly five days. She was only spotted because she was peeing and pooing, it literally dropped from above!

A long shot, I know, but worth another look, looking up the way.

Good idea Fluffy, he usually has a lot to say for himself! DO cats usually respond to their friend cats in that way?

My cat used to have a BFF who would miaow outside the house if I'd kept him in for some reason, when he heard the other cat he would jump on he windowsill and look for him.

It's got to be worth a shot.

boofted · 10/12/2013 13:35

Could you leave the carrier near the vets with a blanket smelling of home and of boycat inside? Maybe she'll go in and sleep. Maybe put some food in it too. she might just keep going back to it.

frostyfingers · 10/12/2013 17:21

Try the local radio station too - we did when my mum's dog disappeared whilst visiting us. She was found in the river, rescued by the firemen and taken to the local police station - they had the radio on and voila, dog was returned. It might just get the word out to a few more people. Good luck.

Madratlady · 10/12/2013 21:30

Well we had a phone call early this afternoon from someone who saw her yesterday then saw our posters this morning. She wasn't far from where she escaped, assuming it was our kitty. DH went to look this afternoon but no sign of her today. I've got hundreds of flyers and a day off tomorrow.

Well that is good news. Good luck for tomorrow.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/12/2013 21:48

Time to hire a heat sensing camera? The fire service usually have them, it would be very useful if they hired them out.

I still wonder what on earth that other posters neighbour had one for.

cozietoesie · 10/12/2013 21:54

Good luck tomorrow - and I agree with Fluffy. I'd see if you can hire a heat sensing camera. I think another poster gave a link to hire firms up above in the thread?

timtam23 · 10/12/2013 22:00

That's good news Madrat - and good luck for tomorrow

Sparklingbrook · 10/12/2013 22:02

I wish i lived nearer Madrat, I would come with you.

TamzinGrey · 10/12/2013 22:17

All of my fingers will be crossed for you tomorrow Madratlady - I bet it was her.

Re the neighbour on a previous thread's "heat sensing camera". Could it actually have been a "night vision camera"? We've got one of those. It's brilliant for looking at wildlife at night and we always take it with us when we go on countryside holidays.

cozietoesie · 10/12/2013 22:26

Could well have been Tamzin. I recall only that the husband who produced it from some obscure place was equally obscure about what it was. My memory may be playing me false though.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 07:05

Please let today be the day.

KittieCat · 11/12/2013 07:17

Please don't give up hope. My girl went missing for 6.5 weeks and we eventually found her due to a poster in a vet surgery.

Got everything crossed for her safe return.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 07:23

Where was she Kittie?

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 11/12/2013 07:28

Fingers crossed for you, haven't posted before but been following the thread.

FennellaSage · 11/12/2013 07:37

Fingers crossed for today madratlady. I hadn't really thought about that happening, will lock their carriers extra tight when mine go to the vet next time, I can see how easily it could happen.
Thank goodness she is chipped, you have a good chance of getting her back, especially with all the flyers, no-one will be in any doubt that she is not a stray.
Really hope today is the day you get her home.

Bakingtins · 11/12/2013 07:44

do the vets or the local cats protection group have a humane trap you can borrow and set up in the car park or wherever she was recently seen overnight? We had a similar situation in my last practice and after a few nights of releasing the local greedy Tom cat we did trap the lost cat and return it to the owner.
Good luck today.

KittieCat · 11/12/2013 09:02

Sparkling she'd made it a fair few miles in the opposite direction to our home (the weekend before we moved to the other side of London!). She'd been hanging around a block of flats. A nice couple had noticed her hanging around and called RSPCA who advised them to leave her be. Thankfully they didn't and took her in.

We'd had 500 posters printed and just by chance I mail shotted all vets in 8 mile radius and the couple happened to take her to a surgery that had a poster up.

It was weeks of very hard work to get her back (trawling the streets, speaking to people in the area etc) but it was worth every second!

OP, I hope this gives you hope!

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 09:11

Kittie what a happy ending. Blimmin' RSPCA. Sad

DidoTheDodo · 11/12/2013 09:31

Oh madrat I have everything crossed for you that you find her today.

boofted · 11/12/2013 09:57

I hope it was her!! good luck today.

CheeseandPickledOnion · 11/12/2013 10:29

Fingers crossed for you.
