Fuck, my cat is gone and it's all my fault

Girlcat escaped from her carrier outside the vets and was over the nearest fence and gone before I could grab her. It was my fault, I didn't clip it up properly. The vets is 7 miles away. We searched for a couple of hours with no luck. I'm doing some posters and leaflets. I just want her home. She's chipped at least so someone might find her and take her to the vets.

My cat was found due to a flyer Madrat. I also told the postman and the binman.

BigWellyLittleWelly · 08/12/2013 15:24

I'm so sorry about girl cat

Could you put up a poster in church and the local schools?

Madratlady · 08/12/2013 17:20

The church, school and library are the only places that haven't got posters up in the village because none of them were open when we were putting posters up. The shops and vets and pub have them. The nice vet nurse who helped me search when Girlcat first escaped told the postman.

We've been over this afternoon and called for her but I doubt she's that close the the car park any more as it's near the main road through the village and she's never been near a main road before so it's likely to scare her.

DH is very optimistic that someone will find her or she'll find us. I'm just terrified we'll never see her again. We're both worried about Boycat being lonely without her though.

Lots of TLC for Boycat. And she's chipped, Madrat - that makes a huge difference.

Fingers crossed for you.

pottytowork · 08/12/2013 19:20

oh, i hope your girl come homes soon!

my lad went missing for 6 days when he was younger. turned out he had been picked up by some children, he is VERY friendly! they carried him off and obviously didnt realise that he wouldnt be able to work out his way home.

he was handed into the vets because he kept trying to break into someones house to beat up their german shepard!

fingers crossed!

Don't feel shy about knocking on people's doors and asking if they'd mind you looking for her in their back gardens. Most people would be more than happy to let you do this and would probably even help you search.

We once had a cat who went missing for two weeks. We lived on a busy main road. One afternoon we could hear an angry blackbird giving an alarm call for ages in a garden across the road. Our cat was hated by all of the local blackbirds, and we recognised the call. My sister went across the road, and asked the people, who we'd never met, whether they would mind if she went into their back garden to search for our cat. They immediately agreed and, lo and behold, there was our kitty, deep in some undergrowth, very poorly with a broken jaw and a cut leg, having been hit by a car and unable to get back over the road due to her injuries. After a visit to a good vet and plenty of TLC she was restored to full health.

If a cat went missing around here I'd be upset if I wasn't asked to check my back garden.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2013 22:22

Agreed. Wouldn't bother me in the least.

Madratlady · 08/12/2013 22:48

We searched most of the nearby gardens straight after we lost her, and DH knocked on doors and talked to more people yesterday. Lots of people took our number in case they see her.

I'm hoping someone has taken her in and will take her to the vets tomorrow, she might have been braver if she was cold and hungry.

A few months ago, I seem to recall that a poster's cat was found very speedily by a neighbour's husband who unexplainedly had a heat seeking camera/device which he used to great effect.

It's not the sort of thing we all have knocking around in cupboards but I'm surprised that the rescue organisations don't have a few of those.

Pancakeflipper · 08/12/2013 23:15

Our neighbour had similar experience. Their cat appeared a year later and was a mile away from the search area so might be worth expanding your search area.

ilovemydoggy · 08/12/2013 23:25

Hope she comes back soon.

VenusDeWillendorf · 09/12/2013 11:26

Fingers crossed for you!

VenusDeWillendorf · 09/12/2013 11:27

Good idea cosie, but why would a civvy have one of those?

EauRougemasTree · 09/12/2013 11:38

A local wildlife charity might have one or you can hire one.

cozietoesie · 09/12/2013 11:40

As I mentioned, Venus, his having it was 'unexplainable' although perhaps you can buy these sort of things online - but even if you could, I'm not sure what sort of hobby you might have to justify it. It would certainly be a boon to rescue organisations I would have thought.

Ah Hah! (X post.)

I was hoping to see a happy outcome to this thread but am adding my positive vibes for you madrat.
Didokitty went walkies for just a few extra hours last week and I was frantic so goodness knows how you are feeling.
Here's hoping...

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2013 12:46

There will be a happy outcome. I am willing it to happen. Please come back Madrat Cat.

Madratlady · 09/12/2013 12:53

Boycat is confused, he doesn't understand why she's not here. He's taken to waking me at 4am for some attention, I have a feeling they are both usually awake at that time and now he has no kitty company.

We're not giving up hope yet, I'm really struggling to get my head around the idea of her being gone though. She's such a quirky little cat. She likes to chat and if she's in the right mood she'll flop over an wave her paws in the air as soon as you go near her. And she always came for a cuddle with me when DH went out for his last smoke of the night. Always the last one, she didn't move if he was going out again later.

It is still very early days, keep positive. x

RabbitsarenotHares · 09/12/2013 13:26

Random idea, but could you take Boycat in a carrier and see if she'd come to him? You'd need a second carrier for her, but surely the vets would lend you one if needs be?

Really hope she turns up soon. x

boofted · 09/12/2013 13:34

Rabbits that's a good idea. I really really hope she turns up safe and well soon. x

TamzinGrey · 09/12/2013 16:38

Aw she sounds lovely. You must be missing her terribly. Another one here willing Madrat Cat to come back.
I'm desperately hoping that this thread has a happy ending.

GimmeDaBoobehz · 09/12/2013 21:05

Aw I really hope you find your cat madras.

My cat has wondered off before and we didn't see her for a few weeks. Is she an indoor or outdoor cat?

Madratlady · 09/12/2013 21:23

I'm not going through the experience of sticking boycat in a carrier, he'll claw me to pieces if I even manage to get him in at all then sulk silently, he certainly wouldn't meow for her. It's a yearly unpleasant event for his jabs that causes us both lots of stress. And I'm terrified of taking him any further than the garden after what happened with girlcat.

She is used to going outside but usually comes home around 10pm for her tea and stays in at night. When it was warmer she occasionally refused to come in and I'd end up getting up in the early hours to see if she wanted to come in and she'd be annoyed at being shut out Hmm

I was hoping for a call today since the vets will have been open but no such luck.
