Fuck, my cat is gone and it's all my fault

Girlcat escaped from her carrier outside the vets and was over the nearest fence and gone before I could grab her. It was my fault, I didn't clip it up properly. The vets is 7 miles away. We searched for a couple of hours with no luck. I'm doing some posters and leaflets. I just want her home. She's chipped at least so someone might find her and take her to the vets.

Any news?

Harpy's idea sounds worth a try. (I've been overthinking it and imagining you dragging the liquified contents of your cat litter tray in a bag, a bit like a drag hunt)!

Another idea is to ask your local CPL to set set baited traps (safe cat traps) around the area that she escaped in.

Best luck.

No sign today, we've been over and called her 3 times today. Trouble is it's mostly houses in the area and we can't go wandering into people's gardens so the most we can do is stand in the vet's car park and call her. DH got shouted at for wandering on private property (a junk yard so he was hardly going to damage anything) earlier.

Chance are she's wandered away from where she escaped by now. Hopefully she's heading back to us somehow. Unfortunately it's not a safe walk from there to our house, busy roads with no pavement, she'll hopefully cross the fields if she does make her way home.

Dish my only concern there is that we have no idea if she's still in the same area and the traps would be exposed for anyone to see in the car park.

We contacted the CPL and RSPCA to let them know we're missing a cat if anyone hands her in.

GoodKingWencesLACK · 07/12/2013 23:49

HAve you put out an APB on facebook? you can get friends to share it round their pages and local groups etc

AryaofhouseSnark · 08/12/2013 00:00

Oh no so sorry. Sorry if I have missed this, have you given your local cat protection a call or do they have a fb page ? I have missing cats pop up on my news feed all the time.

AryaofhouseSnark · 08/12/2013 00:01

Oh yes in your op sorry missed that.

notapizzaeater · 08/12/2013 00:08

My mums cat once ran away from my granddads (cat sitting whilst we were on holiday) they didn't tell us and was going to tell us when we got home, us, Grandad and cat all arrived home at roughly the same time. She'd gone about 5 miles but made it home.

intheland · 08/12/2013 00:12

fingers crossed for you

happytalk13 · 08/12/2013 08:55

Oh dear. :( I hope you have better new by the end of today.

FeastOfPhteven · 08/12/2013 09:01

I do hope someone finds her and she is returned quickly.

Have you searched for local animal groups on FB? They can be quite helpful at getting word round. Or put a picture on your FB (assuming you have it) and ask people to share it.

Madratlady · 08/12/2013 11:43

It's on all the local fb pages and there's lots of posters up. Hoping someone finds her and calls us.

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2013 12:09

I am willing her to be found and returned to you Madrat. x

DeathByLaundry · 08/12/2013 12:20

If you get any sightings the local cpl may put out traps for you if you ask them nicely.

ElaClaw · 08/12/2013 12:21

Hope you find her soon :(

Madratlady · 08/12/2013 12:50

I was hoping someone might have seen her by now and let us know. But she's shy of new people so probably hiding till after dark. And she's a black cat.

I wish there was more we could do to find her but we can't without trespassing. And she's either not coming or not close enough to hear us call when we go to where I lost her. I think she could have wandered a long way by now.

Boycat is being even more clingy without his sister to keep him company. He spent hours last night asleep snuggled up with me and meows if I try and move when he wants to cuddle. Which is all the time.

Seriously though, how the hell am I supposed to find a cat who clearly isn't going to come and throw herself into my arms in an area that is mostly private property when I don't even know if she is still in that area?

I just want her home safe. We've spread the word as much as we can, we've searched and called her. Surely someone should have seen her? It's been 2 days since she escaped.

This happened to a friend of mine last year. She had a phone call 10 days later when cats as found and taken to a local vet. Her cat also was chipped but no collar.

hedgehogy · 08/12/2013 13:23

Oh gosh, I really hope you find her.

We used to travel with our cats to visit family. They were kept inside, but one night one of them escaped from an upstairs window that had been left open and there happened to be a storm that night so his scent was washed away. The next day (when we were due to travel back home) we spent hours searching and calling for him, and it was just by chance that I heard a tiny miaow (as no one else heard it) coming from behind the high fence of someone's back garden; it was him and he jumped onto the fence once he knew it was us. I think we were both as relieved as each other. He hadn't gone too far, hopefully your cat is still hiding away in the area.

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2013 14:14

What county are you in? Have you put it on the local pages on MN. Some of them aren't very active though.

ThistledownAndCobweb · 08/12/2013 14:20

You poor thing, you must be worried sick.

If it's any consolation I'm sure all cat owners/animal lovers in the area will be on the lookout.
Someone lost a cat in my local area recently and DH and I combed the fields around our house hoping to find him.

I hope she is found soon.

Madratlady · 08/12/2013 14:21

sparkling my local mn page is very inactive.

I'm near York though (I don't care if this outs me).

ExitPursuedByAChristmasGrinch · 08/12/2013 14:24

Oh poor you. And poor puss. Hope she turns up.

Madratlady · 08/12/2013 14:59

I'm going to put flyers through the doors on the huge housing estate nearby in case anyone has taken her in.
