Some fucking shit ran over my cat!

My neighbour called me and said someone was speeding down our road ( which drives me mad as we have a school and nursery near us and it is 20 mph, but that's another thread....) and our cat ran across the road and they hit it. Get this they slowed then fucking drove off, did not even get out to see if he was okay.

So I had to take all three of my children home to see if he was dead bloody traumatic for them ( he was not dead) he is now at the vets with god knows what wrong with him, when I picked Him up and put him in my car he collapsed.

So to the Aibu can I watch out for the car as i have the reg and a good description and stick hundreds of post it notes thanking them for not getting out of the car the bastards? Angry

Your poor cat, what a cruel thing to do. Leaving an animal that is hurt and in pain in barbaric.

hope your cat is ok.

AKA i think you are heartless, how could you leave an animal to die like that :(

This happened to me yesterday. A car hit our cat in front of my 6yr old and 3yr old children. Then the car just drove off.
There was no way the driver didn't notice, the brakes were slammed on and there was a horrible loud noise as the cat hit the car. I was in so much shock that I didn't even look to see the driver. The shit.
I am still fucking furious that the car didn't stop, my son was and is traumatised.
Amazingly the cat seems Ok so far. Hope your cat pulls through OP.

Sorry to hear about your cat. If they were speeding, surely you can report it to the local police if you have the reg - it could be a child next time...
Whoever hit it should pick up the vets bill too.

Unfortunately I accept the vet bill is my responsibility, just a sorry I hit your cat, or sorry I hit your cat he is at xyz vet would have been nice.

I agree Zepherial. An acknowledgment of what happened would have been something.

I'm so sorry to hear this, one of my neighbours was speeding and hit my cat. I was livid, cat was screaming dragging her back end, took her to the vets and thankfully a stressful 48 hrs wait for a poo and wee, then an expensive op, 6 weeks in a room on her own so she couldn't jump and she was ok.
I never did anything, as the vet said the chances are they didn't know they'd hit her. I'd be at least writing a letter (get the address from the dvla) to explain the full extent of your cats injuries, & also a bit about your cat. I'd also point out to them legally as its a cat you can't chase for vets bills. But if it were (heaven forbid) a child, imagine the consequences, prison etc.
I hope your cats ok xxxxx

I hope your cat is okay.

I know you can't be sure yet but if you want positive stories mine had a ruptured bladder after coming off worst in a stand-off with a car but they saved him and he lived another 10 years. He was very careful about crossing the road afterwards so I hope yours is clever too.

I also knew a three-legged cat and he was fine.

The people who hit my friend's cat took him to a vet and paid and offered to adopt him if no one claimed him. He's alive too and well, albeit with a rakish-looking one eye. Same thing happened to another friend's cat with a smashed jaw - she lived too.

Someone driving in front of me hit a cat and killed him outright. It was dark and he wasn't going fast. It was an accident and I don't think he knew.

I'd have taken him to a vet if he'd been alive but he wasn't so I knocked on a few doors then laid the cat on the pavement instead so his owner might find him intact. That's the least people would do because most people are lovely.

Ignore the few on this thread who aren't.

Zeph my vet let me pay my bill up in 3 installments most Vets are quite good if it's £££(£). Keep everything crossed he is okay.

Bad karma on it's way to those people in the car.

I'm sorry about your cat.

Maybe the driver is a bastard. Maybe they aren't and they just panicked?

I wouldn't have a clue what to do. I don't think I'd take any animal to a vet - who knows what kind of bill you could end up liable for?

What a horrible day for you.

My (childhood) cat was run over and killed - the driver picked it up, asked at a neighbour's door then took it round to ours. Deeply apologetic and upset.

"Panicked" nothing. What a coward.

Hope Mr Meow recovers.

Someone hit my kitten and immediately picked him up and dashed off to nearest vet. He was dead but driver came back to knock on doors and find his owners. He was crying as he told us that he'd only been going slowly and kitty just ran in front of him.
Not all bastards.

Can't people just not let their animals run loose in the street? Surely animal running loose + roads = dead cats.

I don't let my toddler or dog out to roam free.

so sorry to hear about your kitty. a few years ago a man hit my cat, the first i knew about it was when he knocked on my front door and asked if i had a black and white cat. when i said yes he said not anymore ive just run it over :(
it turned out he was speeding down our road past a school and my cat spooked at the wind and ran into the road. a school mum saw it all happen and so did her child. she picked my kitty up and cuddled her inside her jacket while she died. :(
