Need urgent advice for a tiny kitten!

I've rescued a kitten who has been rejected by it's mum. It was one of two, Mum took the bigger one and never returned. Poor little thing was calling for her all yesterday and it broke my heart keeping my distance but today it started to go very quiet and shakey so I've taken it in. I know nothing about kittens no idea how old it is (fits easily into my hand, massive eyes and ears, very skinny wobbly legs that look a bit too long for its little body). I've given it tiny drops of milk from a syringe (sp?) prob takes 1ml at a time before it starts to refuse. What do I do (mostly regarding feeding but other advice would be much appreciated)? Live abroad so no shelters or rescue homes so I'm on my own with this one.

It's FINE. It's because she's been feral.

She needs you to be calm and help her, OK? It's worse for her than you

Pinot · 06/05/2012 19:37

stren? stern. [arse] :o

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2012 19:39

It might be the worms that are bunging her up?

ExitPursuedByABear · 06/05/2012 19:43

A KITTEN THREAD. WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME?

Have read with baited breath. So glad there has been some movement, and that Pinot is here to hand hold 3.

You are doing a fabulous job and will have your honoury (sp?) place in the Kitten Quiche.

Hugs all round.

Am I going to get worms? Can they creep out of her bum and murder us all in our beds? This time last week I was happily flitting from english lessons to playing with my kids and now I'm horrifying small children with my wriggling furry breasts that meow and having to cope with every flipping parrisite known to mankind. Seriously though, how easy is it for me and the children to catch worms? [hides behind sofa]

Exit I PM'd you! Under your Exit...Kitten name.

Pinot · 06/05/2012 19:46

You wont catch worms as long as you wash your hands after handling the kitten :)

3littlebadgers · 06/05/2012 19:47

Should I google to see if it was a worm or is it going to send me over the edge?

DameHermione · 06/05/2012 19:47

Can humans catch cat worms? I don't know. Lots of hand washing and nail scrubbing.

Shall i add kitten worrmer to my shopping list?

3littlebadgers · 06/05/2012 19:48

My bum's itchy!

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2012 19:48

Are you still rubbing? Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2012 19:48

Can you get kitten wormer out there? do we need to buy you some? I'm ordering prescription stuff for mine but hes a big bugger so it would be too strong for your kitten.

I could have a look at what they have for 3 week kittens.

3littlebadgers · 06/05/2012 19:49

I'd say kitten wormer and some brown paper bags please Wink

OP posts:
Pinot · 06/05/2012 19:49

tapeworms break off into rice shape pieces so I'm fairly confident thats what it is.

Concentrate on rubbing her belly to get that poo out. She needs you!

3littlebadgers · 06/05/2012 19:50

Right off to wash my hands again just to make sure.

ExitPursuedByABear · 06/05/2012 19:50

Oh bless you Pinot, but I haven't got it.

I'm here now. Thanks for the thought though.

I don't think humans can catch cat worms DameH.

(I have never wormed a cat, and have had two live into their 20s).

My horse and dog are wormed regularly though.

I would resist googling anything3 - that way madness lies.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2012 19:54

Pinot, would this be any good?

You could mix it in with his milk.

3littlebadgers · 06/05/2012 19:55

Thanks Exit I will take your advice. I'm not sure I could live with the consequences.
I touched it with my finger! MY FINGER I TELL YOU. I was just so shocked to see anything I prodded it before I'd known what had happened.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2012 19:56

Perhaps get some rubber gloves 3. Grin

Right, are you rubbing again?

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2012 20:00

I've told DH I'm worried about a kitten in Turkey who cant poo and he said you cant make this shit up. So true.

Last night I told him the cat had been freebasing in the lounge. He looked a bit doubtful. Then laughed. For ages.

I actually meant free running. Freebasing is smoking drugs like crystal meth.

3littlebadgers · 06/05/2012 20:00

Ok how exactly does it shed Millions of infected eggs which would be hazardous to other animals or children? Are the eggs on her fur? Do they go on to my clothes when I cuddle her? My 2 year old DD kissed her today before I even knew what had happened. Should I worry?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2012 20:04

They probably say that to make you buy it. I kiss our cat all the time and I havent caught worms yet.

I had worms at 16 and it wasnt so bad, the gp gave me a liquid to drink and that was that.

It's like fleas, one flea can lay millions of eggs but I picked 7 off our cat 3 weeks ago and havent seen one on him since.

3littlebadgers · 06/05/2012 20:05

Fluffycloudland77 you do make me laugh must be fun being your husband! Grin
Aunty Sparkling she is asleep at the mo so I'm avoiding arse rubbing the wormy kitty letting her rest.
