All aboard Podsquad, it's Pod thread number 4.

In case you were wondering:

  • What is this (surprisingly) long-running thread about? A unique lunatic rescue Podenco, known as Pod. Featuring his pals, Stanley, GentleHowl, BabyPod, GentleBounce, Fastest and Princess and many more.
  • What makes you so special that you get your own thread? See above

Seriously, if anyone is considering getting a teenage/rescued/sight-hound/Podenco/all of the above and has NO idea what they're doing, please enjoy the previous instalments from the day we brought him home, to now, six months later. Posts will oscillate wildly from euphoric to mental breakdown and back again.

Here is thread No. 3 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5248472-they-love-a-bit-of-him-podlife?page=1

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No. 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Debating what to do. My instinct is for all three of us to jump straight in the van and head east to look after DF.

Bot DP rightly said maybe the change of environment wouldn't be so good for Pod. Perhaps I'm being selfish wanting them both with me.

Dad adores Pod and would be cheered to see him but he's never had him in his house before.

All fingers crossed for your dad, Hanging Flowers

FeralWoman · 24/10/2025 09:36

I’d wait until your dad has been seen by a doctor and they’ve outlined a treatment plan. I’m sure your brother will keep you up to date and hopefully he’s at the hospital advocating for your dad and making sure he’s treated within a reasonable time frame. He might be in hospital for a few days. Head off to him once you’ve got an idea of what’s happening and when.

HangingOver · 24/10/2025 11:35

Apparently no one is allowed in the emergency bays so my brother can't see him so no point my being there til he's on a ward. I'm going to fly up and leave Pod with DP.

There should be a specific area in airports for people who are flying for family emergencies and are scared of flying and are in recovery which is nowhere near the bar and they could have big fans so people can vape their head off in peace and not have to be around other people who are being happy loudly. Capacity of one.

Loved the photo of you and Pod on your Insta story. So snuggly!

How’s your dad? Healthy and out of hospital?

We are never going back to the beach.

Pod hadn't been there for a couple of weeks as DP very sensibly didn't take him there while I was op country due to Antics. So he was understandably delighted to be running free.

First he located a "wild camper" in the sand dunes and would NOT come away, and kept going back to search for snacks in the remains of the camp fire and presumably search for more human turds in the sand

In Pods defence he's never actually seen a tent before, and he knew there was a dog inside so he was understandably fascinated. I wasn't super bothered by that since camping there is verboten anyway, and I think you should expect the odd doggy visitor should you choose to camp on a public beach.

Pod was being quite good until he decided to chase some crows up a sheer cliff face. The crows kept flying back and forth between two sticky-out bits and skwaking at Pod who predictably lost his marbles. He spent a good five minutes scrambling around at great height ignoring my screams calls for him to come back. He was immediately leashed and returned home.

He's now attempting to "cuddle" my arm and blinking up at me like "Mother, forgive my parkour".

HR screenshot attached. I need a lie down.

Sounds like he's missed his mum, the little monkey 😅

How is your dad doing? I assume things are looking better as you're back home being 'appreciated' by your lovely hound 😀

Scampuss · 06/11/2025 09:43

Eek, he's clearly part mountain goat.

FeralWoman · 06/11/2025 11:05

He was checking that your heart is healthy, and that your lungs are good… Seriously though that’s an impressive spike in your heart rate. How scary that he was doing that at the top of a cliff.

Is leashed at the beach doable or would that not work now that he’s experienced the freedom of unleashed at the beach?

WiddlinDiddlin · 06/11/2025 13:41

I've always had my doubts about the old 'having a dog lowers your blood pressure'... or they've just not met my dogs/sighthounds!

Leashed at the beach is like lunging a tiny horse. I stand in the middle and he zooms in circles around me. It's not as fun as it sounds 😂

Bill is very similar, he's on a ten metre long line at the Common as otherwise he chases swoopy birds for what feels like hours, and he has been known to pull me flat on my face - it's still better than a shorter lead, where he tries to pull me flat on my face from minute one.

I expect if Pod ran fast enough he might take off?

Definitely not Pod weather! My friend with the Newfie on the other hand has a very happy dog. 😁

I get it, Pod, that's exactly how I feel.
