Where to find a goodledoodle puppy

After extensive research we’ve decided to get a black goldendoodle puppy. However we’re having trouble finding a good breeder we have confidence in - does anyone have a goldendoodle they would recommend their breeder? Or suggestions on where to look? Thanks!!

Ask ColourMeIn in Muthill, near Crieff. If they don't have any litters planned they may suggest other breeders to ask.

Adamante · 23/02/2025 14:46

You’re struggling to find a decent “breeder” because decent breeders wouldn’t touch this “breed”. Most people putting these puppies out are doing it purely for the money not for love of the breed. Why not just get a black flat coated retriever? They’re a fantastic breed. Never met one who wasn’t a hilarious character and brilliant to be around.

SparrowFeet · 23/02/2025 14:54

Uh oh.
I am sorry to say this as it's clear you say you've researched the breed so I know you're well intentioned but it will be very hard for you to find a decent breeder of poodle crosses.

Black golden doodle.😂Incredible.

I hope you have your hard hat on.

ACynicalDad · 23/02/2025 15:06

The best breeding of doodles are Australian Labradoodles, they have a breed standard and are multi generational. But choosing a dog on colour is ridiculous.

glassof · 23/02/2025 15:09

Black golden doodle 😅

Garlicgarlicgarlic · 23/02/2025 15:11

I have Black and Gold by Sam Sparro in my head now. Love that song.

Are there any breed standards for crossbreeds? What genetic tests would the breeders need to do on the parents?

I can't think what things would make a good breeder, what did you find out during your research OP?

Black golden doodle 😅

Bonkers isn't it , probably cost ££££ too...

Wolfiefan · 23/02/2025 15:20

There is no regulation of breeding mixes and no rules about what specialist health tests parents should have before breeding. It’s bloody difficult finding a decent breeder of pedigrees. It’ll be nigh on impossible with this mix. What makes you want this specific sort of dog?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who raised an eyebrow at this!! I read it and thought black golden?!!

To be fair all the doodles look the same to me! And I wish people would understand that they are mongrels and they are not all automatically hypoallergenic!

Dear God, really don’t.😖

Well said!

Derbee · 23/02/2025 15:32

You can’t “research a breed” that isn’t a breed. A cross breed/mongrel is always going to be pot luck about what you get in the end. And choosing a dog based on colour is bordering on ridiculous. You’ll struggle to find a decent breeder because decent breeders don’t churn out these trendy, popular, unpredictable litters to suit the aesthetics of random people who approach them.

It's possible....

Yes what's wrong with a normal established breed like a flat coat?! Not unique enough I suppose....

Panicmode1 · 23/02/2025 15:38

I'd be interested to know what "extensive research" you have done....🙄

And I echo everyone else's sentiments..if you can find a breeder of a "black golden doodle" then don't touch the puppies with a bargepole.

hehehesorry · 23/02/2025 15:41

Goldendoodle comes from Golden Retriever, not the colour

Witchyandtwitchy · 23/02/2025 15:48

Easier to find a good breeder of a Golden retriever, Flatcoat or Poodle.
They’re all real breeds with more predictable traits and actual health testing of parents

Onlyvisiting · 23/02/2025 15:52

Whilst it is possible to breed a deliberate cross breed litter responsibly it is highly unlikely you will find a good breeder as most responsible breeders wouldnt touch a doodle mix with a barge pole.
And by responsibly I include both parents being excellent examples of their breed with proven sound temperaments, all health testing done for both breeds, rearing puppies with a good understanding of socialisation needs and only breeding if you have a waiting list of vetted homes.

Yes... mine is red. I just call her a poodle retriever cross though as any other name winds them up even more 😂

Golden retrievers are a range of shades from nearly white to deep gold. They are never black.
A golden x with a black poodle might produce black puppies, but tbh the colour choice is the last thing the OP should be worried about here.

I came on here to say exactly the same , i work at a vets and wouldn't touch one with a barge pole frankly .
All 3 of these breeds especially a flat coat (wonderful temperament) are so much better choices ,much less likely to have the unpredictability and other issues of a goldendoodle - pains me to even write it.

Edited

The black can come from way back in the poodle lineage... it depends what colour genes the poodle carries.

There was 1 black dog in my dog's litter out of 9. The others were chocolate, red and apricot. There wasn't an actual black parent for quite a few generations.

CellophaneFlower · 23/02/2025 15:59

Flat coats are especially prone to cancer. I'm not saying doodles are immune to it but it's much more prevalent in flat coats.
