Where to find a goodledoodle puppy

After extensive research we’ve decided to get a black goldendoodle puppy. However we’re having trouble finding a good breeder we have confidence in - does anyone have a goldendoodle they would recommend their breeder? Or suggestions on where to look? Thanks!!

its not a breed so you wont find reputable anyting

@partystress its not necessarily people being nasty. A lot of people simply care about animals and are concerned about unnecessary suffering from breeding animals to support the demand in poodle crosses. People seeking advice may not be aware of this.

Mumsnet hate all doodles even though everyone I know with one loves them,

It's not that we hate doodles, it's that we hate where they come from and what they represent.

I know lots of absolutely adorable doodles - but they're all puppy farmed even though their owners are adamant they're from a "nice friendly breeder".

Yes he’d be on board with that, I’m not sold on their look but maybe I need to get over that

It’s just the cut. DM had a poodle she cut him herself using scissors, trimmed all over and if you google it looks like a golden doodle anyway. (Well I think so). The birds would come and take his hair to make nests.
He was a lovely boy, I was a baby when he was a few years old and he had a lovely temperament. DM said I used to share my rusks with him… 🫣🤣and grandad wasn’t fast enough to stop that interaction. I just hope it wasn’t back and forth sharing lol
He had good health and lived to be a good age, passed from advanced kidney disease.

Good luck OP finding a dog from a good breeder or indeed rescue is so difficult these days.

It's seriously depressing that two posters on this thread are raving about puppy farms.

Completely agree. 🙁

They might love their dog, but they don’t love dogs.

That’s the issue. If they cared about animal welfare, they’d never have gotten a doodle. That’s why we don’t like them - because 99.9% of the time, they’re puppy farm dogs and the bitches are abused and suffer a fate worse than death. But as long as your mates are happy with their dog, that’s okay?

This is a perfect description of the issue.

You’re struggling to find a decent “breeder” because decent breeders wouldn’t touch this “breed”. Most people putting these puppies out are doing it purely for the money not for love of the breed. Why not just get a black flat coated retriever? They’re a fantastic breed. Never met one who wasn’t a hilarious character and brilliant to be around.

Because they are extremely prone to cancer for starters

As the mongrel mix would be tbh. Breeding any dog of any breed with another dog of a different breed does not stop common health issues or defects.

Your chances may be lower but tbh, given the sorts of incompetent fuckwits who breed designer dogs you’re more likely to end up with a dog with health issues as these idiots shove any two dogs of two breeds together and hope for the best.

No actual planning or consideration goes into breeding designer doodles, at least not the way it does for an ethical breeder - and I’m not including Jill who bred her lab once cos ‘it’s such a nice dog, and I wanted a puppy’ - who only breeds for the right reasons.

Have you thought about a Portuguese Water dog (or Spanish or Italian, but they don't come in black)?

They are more hypoallergenic as not a cross and less skinny looking than a poodle.

But this mix isn't with a flat coat, so ultimately not going to inherit that risk.

Goldies are cancer prone, yes, but not to the same extent as flatties. Crossing a GR and a poodle MIGHT mean it has the same risk as its GR parent worst case scenario, but there's a good chance that risk will be lessened.

Yes, there's always a risk, but you can lower it by knowing the lines and choosing from a litter with a very low inbreeding coefficient. As I said before, the youngest we've ever lost a flattie is 11 and the oldest 14, and neither of those from cancer, so pretty much in line with the lifespan of the Goldens I've known.
