Hello PodSquad,

Thank you for being on this crazy ride with us.

Here's the OG thread if anyone wants to go back and laugh at how staggeringly naive I was adopting my first rescue pup: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Could someone please explain who this dog is in my house and what they've done with Pod? Because he's been absolutely angelic today. Truly a wonderful, wonderful dog and even coped with my DF and DPs pal coming over for Sunday dinner and sitting up getting merry on red wine.

Or perhaps the collective will on MN have given me a SERIOUSLY needed good day. What a star. 🥹

Oh my giddy god...... | Mumsnet

I can't actually believe I'm finally typing this... I think I'm getting a dog! I've wanted one of my own my entire life. I had one growing up and l...

nobby behaviour followed by anxious needy-fuckery precisely describes my pup as well, @WiddlinDiddlin , and I’ll be nicking that for the teenager thread 😄 - thank you so much!!

Oh and I love Lili's art, she's a really lovely lady to, we've been friends a few years (I also do doggy illustration). Of the available books on body language, I do think hers are the best as the photographic ones tend to be much harder to decipher (oddly enough!).

Yes! Me too! So much easier to understand.

Thanks for the advice and help, as ever. I know it's just a rough patch and he'll get better again but I'm so grateful to my online PodSquad where I can just shout "FUUUUUUUUCK!" into the internet void when needed!

Also, I was saying to our lovely trainer earlier, I think it's a bit of a shock to the system to two child free, independent people to spend 24 hours a day with something that behaves horribly towards you. Perhaps people with children are better at this because they're more used to be scratched, bitten and yelled at by the thing they love that lives in their house 🤣

WomenInConstruction · 08/01/2025 18:46

Maybe this is what drew you to Mumsnet. 🤣

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/01/2025 18:47

Honestly...

A lot of 'em are not. Its still a huge shock to the system, somehow they assume a puppy will be less work than a kid but in many respects it more, because other people give you a ton of leeway when there's a small child who is needy and dependent.. you get none when its a puppy, and less than when its a puppy older than about 16 weeks!

And generally its a few years in before toddlers start being able to bite hard!

But yeah when you've really no basis for comparison, the jump from 'do what i want, when i want' to 'omg this awful biting twatbag who i inexplicably adore and want the best for is DRIVING ME INSANE'... thats really really tough. You are doing remarkably well and maintaining an admirable sense of humour too!

Thanks Widldin'. We all love you in this house.

I ended up on MN when my Ma died, weirdly! I was up very late at the hospital with her and all my friends were sleeping and I thought who on earth will be up that I can chat to this late... And I thought Mums with babies!

So I started a thread updating about DM every day and honestly those women CARRIED me. Over 2000 messages. It was MN at its brilliantist.

I believe some people do yoga WITH their dogs. Although I'm not sure it would quite be Pod's thing...

sonjadog · 08/01/2025 19:08

It is a huge shock to the system to get a dog if you haven't had dependents previously! The puppy blues are real. After a while, it just becomes part of who you are. When I am away with work and my dog is with the dog-sitter, I still feel a deep seated urge to go for a walk about 7am, 2pm and 7pm. Sometimes I take myself for a little potter around the block at these times. 😁

Oh my god @HangingOver Please try this and of course film it for our amusement 😁

HangingOver · 08/01/2025 20:46

Hum. Driving back from the first scent work class where Pod confounded me by being the best behaved there. Mainly because he was bookended by dogs yelling their heads off. He didn't do brilliantly at the scenting because he was a bit worried but he didn't kick off and took treats and followed commands so I'd say that's a win.

I think, reading between the lines, our trainer is trying to get us to understand just how brilliantly he's doing under the circs. My boy ♥️

Just a quick thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!!!!! for allowing me to see the magnificent, wonderful Pod on Instagram 😀

Now need to get my pointy hounds videos up ( they can be proper monkeys when they're in a mood, but they're my pride and joy nonetheless 😊).

LadyGrillingSole · 08/01/2025 22:11

Aww, well done Pod! Mumsnet are cheering you ( and your long suffering mum 😀) on!

HangingOver · 08/01/2025 22:13

Oooh it's nearly time for another thread if there's enough interest 😁

Taking title suggestions.... Preferably a pun.

How about " Pod an Co."
Pretty lame, but it's all I've got 😀

Pashazade · 08/01/2025 22:34

Poddington please!!?" (But that'll show your age if you have a clue what I'm talking about! )

Willowkins · 08/01/2025 22:38

Reading these threads has really cheered me up during trying times so how about:
Pod brings joy amidst the chaos
I hope that's what happens anyway

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/01/2025 22:55

Oh yes, definitely another thread, I vote for Poddington, Please! as well! And the yoga. Sorry.

I like this! Made me think of "pondlife".

LardoBurrows · 09/01/2025 03:46

One Podenco, Two Podenco, Three Podenco, Four, Five Podenco makes a Pod and so do many more (sung to the tune of the Banana Splits song). It's the best I can do, sorry. I'll get my coat (shuffles off quietly).

Twiglets1 · 09/01/2025 06:26

Pod squad? As that’s what you call his followers?

LadyGrillingSole · 09/01/2025 06:40

Every time I read Podlife my brain puts the tune to Blur's "Parklife" to it 😁
