Hello PodSquad,

Thank you for being on this crazy ride with us.

Here's the OG thread if anyone wants to go back and laugh at how staggeringly naive I was adopting my first rescue pup: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Could someone please explain who this dog is in my house and what they've done with Pod? Because he's been absolutely angelic today. Truly a wonderful, wonderful dog and even coped with my DF and DPs pal coming over for Sunday dinner and sitting up getting merry on red wine.

Or perhaps the collective will on MN have given me a SERIOUSLY needed good day. What a star. 🥹

Oh my giddy god...... | Mumsnet

I can't actually believe I'm finally typing this... I think I'm getting a dog! I've wanted one of my own my entire life. I had one growing up and l...

I willfully misinterpreted Widdlins suggestion of taking him places in the car that aren't exciting walkies or even just sitting in the car reading with him, by taking Pod to the drive thru.

DP has selfishly gone to have fun in London til Saturday so it's just me and Pod for now.

I got him six nuggets and pulled the batter off so he could have a single torn up nugg with his dinner, and one chip.

I asked drive thru man "what's the smallest number of nuggets you do" (I haven't had chicken in about 15 years).

And he said "six"

So I said, "okay I'll take that as well"

And he said "Do you want to make it a meal?"

And I said "No thanks, they're for my dog"

And he said, after a pause "does he want any dips" 😁 which I thought was really funny.

Sorry Techphobe Alert! Just tried finding the DTAS group on FB... but nadda 😳 what am I doing wrong? 😂

RumNotRun · 19/12/2024 18:51

@HangingOver you bought him six but only gave him one? That poor sweet deprived puppy! 😁

Scampuss · 19/12/2024 19:06

But did you get him some dips?

He really is having the best life with you.

Was deeply suspicious about possible effect on Pods guts so I'm rationing them, I've put them in the fridge. 😁

Try https://www.facebook.com/groups/374160792599484! if not, search for Dog Training Advice and Support 😊

@Bupster you stat! Thank You so much ☺️

HangingOver · 19/12/2024 21:23

Urgh Pod has been an absolute little shit this evening. Why do I waste Maccers on this boy. If anyone wants to see an extremely cute video of him fighting sleep I just put one up.

Tomorrow, we're back at the woodland with Princess. Very excited! Princesses Mum also really nice so hopefully we'll become pals. Is this how adults make friends 😁

OP posts:
eggandonion · 19/12/2024 23:04

It absolutely is how adults make friends. Often called Patch's dad or Cookie's mum, or the lady with the tall handsome dog with the ears. But lots of gossip exchange!

WiddlinDiddlin · 20/12/2024 02:37

Oh aye, I definitely mean going to the drive thru, though that is a bit more exciting than just reading/having a chew (up to you who reads, who has the chew)... still, he does need lots of positive experiences in the car too.

I realised earlier, DTAS as a concept has been going 13 years now, s'evolved a bit over that time! Thanks for posting the link @Bupster unfortunately there are some substandard (and much smaller) groups with the same name, so it isn't always easy to search for.

He possibly would have been interested in a dip if they offered flavours such as dead squirrel or fox poo 🤔

Pod has just inadvertently tried to kill himself, me and several motorists. After being completely uninterested in cars for two and half months in the last two days Pod has decided that his walk must culminate in an excited lunge and screaming at cars passing at 30mph on the road back to our house. Scared the absolute hell out of me.

I know it's not his fault. He's had a couple of exciting things happen in the last few days so he's probably just a bit over the top. He's started lead ragging at the end of his walks too so I expect it's an overstimulation thing as opposed to a genuine fear.

Not what I need on a Friday morning though!

FeralWoman · 20/12/2024 11:42

Oh no. Don’t do that Pod. Would it be useful to contact the trainer and get his advice?

WiddlinDiddlin · 20/12/2024 13:10

Oh Podface!

Slower walks/sniffier walks/avoid traffic where you can for a bit, alternate days quiet/busier, end walks with a sniffy in the garden thing rather than straight into the house - you are probably doing all this shiz anyway though!

One of my many mantras... 'train the dog you have today'... I have to remind myself of that from time to time too.

WellHelloScottie · 20/12/2024 13:24

Oh, one of my rescues started rearing up and lunging at lorries and motorbikes. It was terrifying. He went manic.

I sorted him with training treats as they were coming towards us, but it took a stressful while.

He happily trots past anything now, without a second glance.

You'll do it. X

HangingOver · 20/12/2024 18:52

Pod has some very tragic news to share with you. Twofold.

  1. while playing in the forest with Princess, she repeatedly stole his ball and wouldn't give it back

  2. back home, while exuberantly raising merry hell to work off his feelings about 1), he hurt his paw 5 minutes of exaggerated limping requiring a lot of pats and reassuring...it's fine now

Please take a moment to appreciate this tragic hound.

Oh Podface... this is terrible news, girls are awful and stinky and take your stuff, I am sorry you had to find this out the hard way.

I hope you had sausages to cure the poorly paw, its the only way, believe in the power of the medicinal sausage!

Came back to this thread after ages. So glad you are still having Podventures!

HangingOver · 21/12/2024 18:16

I somewhat naively thought if I actually GAVE Pod the bloody brush he'd see it's not that exciting and get bored of it like he does everything else but the jokes on me as it's been amusing him all day long...

OldSpeclkledHen · 21/12/2024 19:31

@ POD with brush 😂😂😂 ... yeah... you ain't getting that back alive or useful

Contraryjane · 22/12/2024 03:43

Ah, that reminds me of my puppy who ate half the handle of the garden trowel.
