Hello PodSquad,

Thank you for being on this crazy ride with us.

Here's the OG thread if anyone wants to go back and laugh at how staggeringly naive I was adopting my first rescue pup: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Could someone please explain who this dog is in my house and what they've done with Pod? Because he's been absolutely angelic today. Truly a wonderful, wonderful dog and even coped with my DF and DPs pal coming over for Sunday dinner and sitting up getting merry on red wine.

Or perhaps the collective will on MN have given me a SERIOUSLY needed good day. What a star. 🥹

Oh my giddy god...... | Mumsnet

I can't actually believe I'm finally typing this... I think I'm getting a dog! I've wanted one of my own my entire life. I had one growing up and l...

@HangingOver sorry if I've missed it...what's Pod's Instagram please?

Scampuss · 21/11/2024 09:26

The video is hilarious, especially his sad face and horizontal ears, poor funny Pod Easter Grin

Pixiedust1234 · 21/11/2024 09:41

I would love to see this video too, if that's okay? I've been quietly following his exploits from the beginning so understand perfectly if you don't want to give out PI like that.

Costacoffeeplease · 21/11/2024 10:15

He looks like our pod when it’s only raining, I don’t know what he’d make of snow if we ever had any 😯

HangingOver · 21/11/2024 11:25

Can everyone please tell me their funny dog rituals?

I've developed one with Pod that makes me laugh like a drain. Every time I come back in the house and he wiggles over to greet me I pretend I'm a nature documentary maker talking softly and saying stuff like ".... oh.... oh what is this now? What could it be?? Seems to be some sort of...long legged... pointy eared....waggy...kanger-saurus, hybrid creature....i wonder what.... OH OH wait it's a Pod." and then scrumble his ears and kiss his nose and pat his little bum.

When we have my step-daughters dog to stay we talk to him in Scooby Doo’s voice along of the lines of “whaaaat, you want Scooby Snacks?” He loves it

nearly55 · 21/11/2024 11:51

Oh poor Pod! He'll be hoping it's another 8 years before it snows again! Hope he warms up soon.

Meanwhile my spaniel is loving the snow! Day 3 in a row and we've been out in it for at least 3 hours a day. I'm not in shorts though!

sonjadog · 21/11/2024 12:25

Re. dog rituals, each of my dogs has had his own song. They kind of grow organically over the years and are usually loosely based on a real song. They get to know them and when I sing them, they turn themselves inside out with joy. My current dog's song is I Wanna Be a Dog (Stone Roses).

I agree. I felt horrible laughing but his little sad face and his usually upright ears being so flat made me laugh but also feel sad for him.

My dog hates snow and runs into the garden, does his business and runs back in, often knocking into everything in his rush to get back to safety. No way would he walk in it.

He loves rain though and always wants to lay out in it. He gets quite huffy when I won't let him

MaxandMoritz · 21/11/2024 12:41

My hounds have all loved the snow. Don't do rain, but adore the snow.

We don't have any here though, although it's barely been above 0C all week.

HangingOver · 21/11/2024 13:12

Right, that's in NO MORE JR Pets orders.

Yet another box has just arrived and he's rejected every single thing in there except for the ostrich trachea. I take each item away when he shows disinterest and try giving it again at a later date but with the exception of the pigs ear (which he buries) everything else just gets 'meh!'. Including an animal part that is so obviously an animal part that I may have to give it a funeral. Fussy little prince!

One of my favourites is "He did the sniff! PODEN-CO Podenco sniff!" (Monster Match)

Fussy bugger! I take it you've told him there are starving Whippets in Bolton who'd LOVE to have a box of delicious dead animal parts...

I have all manner of ridic rituals with my lot, that I then do in front of other people and then realise how utterly lunatic it makes me look.. including talking for them in a posh voice and referring to myself and DP as Mummy and Daddy... it is vomitworthy, truly it is.

The Ancient One is sporting his dragon jumper (fleece pull over, has a crest down the back and wings appliqued on, in fetching tones of pink and turquoise)...

'Whose the stinkiest little dragon, is it you? Yes it is... no its not Daddy oh you are rude!'...

'Oh stinky dragon, did you do a wee on the new dog bed (he is quite leaky!)... will we have to sell you on eBay for parts and spares now? Oh we can fuck off and stop being patronising can we?'...

We do a lot of singing to the tune of Little Red Monkey, with whatever words will fit.. 'Look at the doggy silly doggy, acting so stroppily...' etc!

sallydoodlecat · 21/11/2024 16:29

Poor Pod!!!

Re rituals my son puts ours to bed every night and has a method for doing it including bedtime biscuits. We all say night to him and then he's left for soppy time with my boy. Then in the mornings my daughter, who's always first up in our house, brings him upstairs to jump on us in bed for a cuddle.

He also has his own voice that we do when we talk for him.

He has to have a treat after we put his seat belt on in the car.

He sits with us at the table when we play board games

Jeez we sound mad! Love reading the rituals.

Bupster · 21/11/2024 17:29

My seven month old dog persuaded me to move the furniture round in the front room so he can sit on the back of the armchair and look out the window. So we now have a song: 'how much is that puppy in the window, the one with the waggly bum' etc etc. The kids walking past to school think it's hysterical, especially when he's sitting there holding a watering can or a shoe in his gob.

He also likes me to chase him up the stairs with his stuffed ducky, and to spend at least 20 minutes every morning sitting in his bed, holding something disgusting for him to chew.

HangingOver · 21/11/2024 18:57

Pod is back from the vets. It was MILES better than the first one, I'm absolutely defecting. Vet was lovely and asked us all sorts of questions and we asked him questions. Trainer also chipped in with things from his side too. Vet thinks Pod is a bit older than the rescue estimated but vet and trainer both want him to keep his balls a bit longer because of something to do with his bones growing. Joints and teeth all fine. He's getting a blood test for something that sounds like bruschetta and some other poo related stuff just to rule out any tummy pain (esp because of his runny poops). Great experience all round and the nurses and reception ladies made a huge fuss of him. Pod is exhausted now, especially after his Very Exciting Walk to the chip shop and the pet shop earlier.

RealTimeData · 21/11/2024 19:36

If the test was for brucella, you may want to research what a positive test would mean. I would have expected the rescue to have tested for it already tbh.

Yeah I read heavily between the lines of what he was saying! It sounds like the risk of him having it is pretty low though given he's from Spain so hopefully it'll come back clear.

Oh poor Pod, I thought all dogs loved snow :)

HangingOver · 21/11/2024 20:28

Also, can I just say because of my OCD (actually diagnosed, in treatment OCD!) it'd be good if we can not talk about the blood test because I'm trying hard just to park it. He'll be getting his test very soon and won't be snogging and other doggies in the interim so it is what it is.

Pic of Pod being adorable.

Our latest song is Walk me Mama ( Wagon Wheel) by Old Crow Medicine Show...

Loving the Pod-cast :)

WiddlinDiddlin · 21/11/2024 23:07

Hopefully one of the tests is for giardia... v common in rescues and dogs who have been in kennels particularly abroad.

I am also seeing a lot of puppies (from puppy farms and crappy breeders) coming to new owners with it and either the breeder has no clue or later says 'oh yeah... they've all got giardia..' like its no big deal (it is, it can be an absolute twat to clear up and leave them with digestive issues!).

Anyway, well done Podface of the Battiest Ears, ya done good today! :D Loving the 'someone assembled this Pod incorrectly' picture there!

spiderlight · 21/11/2024 23:28

The snow video is priceless - those horizontal ears at the end 💔😂

Glad you've found a better vet. It makes such a difference.

FeralWoman · 21/11/2024 23:48

Loving the updates. It sounds like you and Pod are really starting to work well together, and that he’s settling down and decompressing. You sound much more confident now as a dog owner and I’m sure that confidence is felt by Pod.

The vet and his team sound great. Of course he should be made a fuss of by everyone! How could people not make a fuss of him and his ears?

That video was hilarious. Actual snow on his ears!

GeminiGiggles · 22/11/2024 13:21

Loving all these pupdates!

Our main ritual is "The Good Night Biscuit"

Oh asks if she'd a like Good Night Biscuit. She points to the draw where they live.

Oh gets said Biscuit and asks her to sit. "This is a Good Night Biscuit. Good Night!"

Me - Good night Biscuit! Night night see you tomorrow (all in dog voice of course!)

She takes her Biscuit, throws it up the hallway and then eats it and goes to bed.
