Neighbour HATES my dog!

1000 replies

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 19:20

Hi everyone!

I’ve lived in my house for over 9 years now, have owned a poodle cross for 8 of those years. April last year I got a Cane Corso puppy, spoke to this certain neighbour informing her, gave her my number and told her if there was any problems with barking etc, especially if I’m not home, then go please let me know so I can resolve it but she has done nothing but cause me problems ever since.

Last year I was taking rubbish to the bins and the CC followed me out and was being fussed over by my neighbour on the other side of my house. 24 hours later the other neighbour put a computer typed letter through my letterbox stating the car park is not a place to walk a dog, it is illegal for her not to be on a lead and if she sees it happening again she is going to report me for having a out of control dog and her being a dangerous breed!! I sent her a text message explaining the law very basically for her and explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation.

Well, since April this year she has made numerous reports to RSPCA claiming I’m neglecting her, abusing her and now a report to Social Services claiming I’m not only neglecting my CC, but she is a dangerous breed and I have a young child in my home!

I have absolutely had enough now!! My back door is normally open 24 hours as I have an enclosed garden but I’m petrified to allow the dog to be able to go in and out at her free will because of this neighbour, petrified I’m going to be approached by rspca/police when I’m out walking her ….

I just don’t know what to do now.

Do you have a field of livestock to protect? If not, you don't need a Cane Corso.

JC03745 · 08/08/2024 20:07

Out of interest, what made you want a cane corso and not another poodle X???

SilenceInside · 08/08/2024 20:10

Who realistically would have enough time to give these large working dogs enough exercise and mental stimulation? It's madness to have them in a suburban or urban setting as a pet and not a working dog.

YourWildAmberSloth · 08/08/2024 20:15

I don't blame her. Sorry OP but what were you thinking? The choice of breed is bad enough, but it was stupid, thoughtless and careless to have it off leash in public.

Onehotday · 08/08/2024 20:16

You're angry that your neighbour doesn't want your beast roaming around? YABU.

Franjipanl8r · 08/08/2024 20:18

Why the hell have you bought a cane corso to have as a family pet?!

Theotherone234 · 08/08/2024 20:16

Not on the Gov't banned list but I wouldn't be happy with such a breed living next door or around kids (or poodles)

https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/banned-dogs

Some do fall under the banned dogs act - it depends on size and build rather than breed.

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 20:20

Ok

1- cane corso is NOT A BANNED BREED
2- No she doesn’t bark, doesn’t even lift her head up if someone knocks on my door
3- I have an enclosed, secure garden
4- I walk dogs for a living so she gets PLENTY of walks
5- the community police officers know her and ALWAYS fuss over her when they see her
6- I don’t leave my child unattended with either of my dogs
7- I also don’t leave my dogs together unattended either!
8- I was raised with police trained GSDs

to assume because I own a large dog, I’m a terrible neighbour/irresponsible dog owner is ridiculous

@Canecorsomummy some Cane Corsos do fall under the banned dogs act, it all depends on their size and build.

If you're reported, and your dog falls foul of the guidelines, you could be in real trouble - I'd recommend making triply sure.

Bluejayshello · 08/08/2024 20:21

I googled your dog breed and I’d be scared if my neighbour had one! I love dogs

silverjackal · 08/08/2024 20:22

You sound more than reasonable and responsible OP. Some posters here are just terrified of any dog bigger than a terrier. Cane corsos can be lovely dogs, like any others.

Belgazou · 08/08/2024 20:22

I would not be happy to have a Cane Corso next door. That was a bit of a shift from a poodle cross. You have to expect people to be on edge if you choose to have a dog like that.

KreedKafer · 08/08/2024 20:23

A cane corso is ridiculous choice of dog for someone in your situation. I don’t dislike them at all - I like all dogs. But you’ve deliberately chosen an extremely large and powerful guarding breed, because it’s a status symbol dog. It’s a very poor and risky choice for a family pet and for living in close proximity to others. It’s totally unsuitable for your lifestyle, and you bought the dog in the full knowledge that people will find it intimidating. I have zero sympathy for you.

SilenceInside · 08/08/2024 20:24

Do you take your dog on walks with other people's dogs that are paying you? Do they know?

I'm not saying you are an irresponsible owner, I'm saying that having such a large, powerful working breed in an urban/suburban area as a pet and not a working dog is a very poor decision.

Not one bit of this is relevant to be honest.

Depending on their build they can be banned.
So you're not a shit dog owner, that's pretty basic.
A dog that big will escape if they want to.
If other people want to fuss it, that's up to them. I certainly wouldn't.

I’m presuming you’ve had pictures come up of ones with docked ears and tails

I had a rottweiler for over a decade. Ignorant people will always have an opinion op. Ignore and stop justifying your choice of ddog or it's breed... Enjoy your lovely ddogs.

No actually, I didn’t

garlictwist · 08/08/2024 20:27

Our neighbour has a dog like this. To be fair, he muzzles it and it's always on a lead but I just think what's the point? Sort of ruins the fun bits of having a pet when you have to treat your dog like Hannibal lector. You could just get a nice furry happy dog instead. (And I am not a dog person).

CharlotteLucas3 · 08/08/2024 20:28

I have a neighbour a bit like you. He’s got an Akita and a Doberman. This is a new Akita but his last one bit at least one person and he was fined. So he decided it was a great idea to buy a new Akita puppy!

I probably over-react but one of my bichons barks at big dogs and I think one person would have trouble controlling two very large dogs so I run the other way if I see them. They think I’m mad but I don’t care.

Cane corso’s are scary dogs. Why have a breed that could kill your child?

SilenceInside · 08/08/2024 20:28

@Canecorsomummy look, disregarding the comments about this breed and your situation, your neighbour is clearly very scared of your dog. Do you care at all about that?

olympicsrock · 08/08/2024 20:30

You have chosen to have in your home an animal that you don’t trust with your child or other dog. Accidents happen.
What were you thinking ???

Yes I take her with me on all but 1who is a puppy and has zero recall so I don’t let off the lead. And yes the other dog owners know.

a springer spaniel is a working breed but you see plenty of them in cities!

None of that is relevant. It's not a banned breed but is a breed that falls under the XL Bully legislation so, again, are you muzzling the dog in public?
