Neighbour HATES my dog!

1000 replies

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 19:20

Hi everyone!

I’ve lived in my house for over 9 years now, have owned a poodle cross for 8 of those years. April last year I got a Cane Corso puppy, spoke to this certain neighbour informing her, gave her my number and told her if there was any problems with barking etc, especially if I’m not home, then go please let me know so I can resolve it but she has done nothing but cause me problems ever since.

Last year I was taking rubbish to the bins and the CC followed me out and was being fussed over by my neighbour on the other side of my house. 24 hours later the other neighbour put a computer typed letter through my letterbox stating the car park is not a place to walk a dog, it is illegal for her not to be on a lead and if she sees it happening again she is going to report me for having a out of control dog and her being a dangerous breed!! I sent her a text message explaining the law very basically for her and explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation.

Well, since April this year she has made numerous reports to RSPCA claiming I’m neglecting her, abusing her and now a report to Social Services claiming I’m not only neglecting my CC, but she is a dangerous breed and I have a young child in my home!

I have absolutely had enough now!! My back door is normally open 24 hours as I have an enclosed garden but I’m petrified to allow the dog to be able to go in and out at her free will because of this neighbour, petrified I’m going to be approached by rspca/police when I’m out walking her ….

I just don’t know what to do now.

If you have to bring your 9 year old with you when you leave the room to go to the toilet there is something very wrong. What kind of a life is that?

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 22:38

Pit bulls are already banned, her dog had already bitten one of her children! Whether it was my CC or poodle that bit my child, they wouldn’t spend another second in my house

But there was a time pitbulls were not banned. It takes a long time for the law to catch up. Why risk it? Your kid deserved better. Your neighbour deserves peace, and to not live in fear.

ONE attack like this is too many. There is absolutely no need for breeds like CCs and bully types to exist. Get mauled by a chihuahua and you'd need a few stitches at worst. Get mauled but a CC or a bully breed, you need a toe tag.

Edited

Like I said, I don’t disagree completely with your point, I wouldn’t own one myself as I know I am not experienced in this breed and can’t give it what it needs.

Chihuahuas are awful, from my personal experience one of the most aggressive dogs I’ve ever encountered and I really don’t like them! Although size makes them easier to handle if course. And before I offend any owners of one - the ones I’ve met have all been awful, of course I haven’t met every single one in the world!

The sort of life common to many carers but your ableism is delightful

Exactly. Imagine living like that, and thinking it's normal! I feel so very sorry for this child.

They were banned 30 years ago! Lol

I don't like chihuahuas either, but it's not going to kill me. Massive difference.

Indeed. Life is incredibly hard when disability and chronic health conditions mean you need constant supervision.

Also very hard for the parent too.

I’m quoting myself, but to add I think all dog owners should need a licence and have to sit tests and checks to own one - of any breed, then we’d have many more responsible owners.

Undisclosedlocation · 08/08/2024 22:43

There is a specific concern with your dog OP which is the one thing that makes me uneasy. You say she was abused and neglected before you got her. This appears to have been within the vital socialisation window, which can shape the dogs views and behaviour for a lifetime. Even if she displays no obvious signs of having been affected by it, she will not have forgotten.

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 22:44

I never said I take my child to the toilet with me!

This is not the same. Cop on. We are talking about a dog not a disability. I have a disabled daughter.

My son doesn’t need constant supervision, he actually doesn’t NEED to be attached to me constantly, he CHOOSES to be because of a health condition. Completely different

I never said you did, nor did I say anything about your child's age. But you did say you have to do some nonsense merry-go-round of makings sure the dogs aren't together without your magical supervision, and nor is your child. What a pita that all sounds, when you want to go toilet, or shower, or sleep, or sit down, or do anything!

Maybe read her posts properly. Her son is always with her because of health issues. So maybe you should cop on?

You said your son was velcroed to you and when you are upstairs he is upstairs or do you leave him downstairs with the CC when you need a poo?

He's probably scared of the dogs.

Now folks are making up shit to suit their agenda

it’s ok we get that most of MN are anti dog more so the big scary ones.

by the way small dogs kill babies and toddlers sadly. So I’m sorry all dogs need training and not aww your big dog is scared. She’d be bloody blamed and pts right away if she turned on the wee dog for sure.

I don’t take a dog upstairs with me EVERY TIME I go upstairs!

My poodle sleeps on the end of my bed and my CC sleeps in the living room by choice

Not sure what you are wanting from this thread OP but there is no magic wand which will make your neighbour like your dog. She is entitled to dislike/hate it. She maybe fearful of it which is understandable. I never touch dogs I don’t know, (don’t really like them tbh) and only sometimes ones I do. People don’t have to like your dog.

but you reached out in case of issues and she has not responded in the manner you hoped. Just walk away and focus on making sure the dog remains in control and trained.

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 22:53

YoureNotFromBrighton · 08/08/2024 22:49

He's probably scared of the dogs.

He’s obsessed with both of our dogs and I have involved him with their training.

he loves all animals but not a fan of people surprisingly
