Neighbour HATES my dog!

1000 replies

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 19:20

Hi everyone!

I’ve lived in my house for over 9 years now, have owned a poodle cross for 8 of those years. April last year I got a Cane Corso puppy, spoke to this certain neighbour informing her, gave her my number and told her if there was any problems with barking etc, especially if I’m not home, then go please let me know so I can resolve it but she has done nothing but cause me problems ever since.

Last year I was taking rubbish to the bins and the CC followed me out and was being fussed over by my neighbour on the other side of my house. 24 hours later the other neighbour put a computer typed letter through my letterbox stating the car park is not a place to walk a dog, it is illegal for her not to be on a lead and if she sees it happening again she is going to report me for having a out of control dog and her being a dangerous breed!! I sent her a text message explaining the law very basically for her and explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation.

Well, since April this year she has made numerous reports to RSPCA claiming I’m neglecting her, abusing her and now a report to Social Services claiming I’m not only neglecting my CC, but she is a dangerous breed and I have a young child in my home!

I have absolutely had enough now!! My back door is normally open 24 hours as I have an enclosed garden but I’m petrified to allow the dog to be able to go in and out at her free will because of this neighbour, petrified I’m going to be approached by rspca/police when I’m out walking her ….

I just don’t know what to do now.

You said your son was velcroed to you and when you are upstairs he is upstairs or do you leave him downstairs with the CC when you need a poo?

It’s actually a long running joke in my house that I can’t go a poo without the child or one of the dogs following me in!

Now folks are making up shit to suit their agenda

it’s ok we get that most of MN are anti dog more so the big scary ones.

by the way small dogs kill babies and toddlers sadly. So I’m sorry all dogs need training and not aww your big dog is scared. She’d be bloody blamed and pts right away if she turned on the wee dog for sure.

If even small dogs kill babies and small children, maybe the Mumsnet majority have a point about disliking dogs, and they should all be banned.

YoureNotFromBrighton · 08/08/2024 22:56

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 22:53

He’s obsessed with both of our dogs and I have involved him with their training.

he loves all animals but not a fan of people surprisingly

How depressing.

Flopsy145 · 08/08/2024 22:59

Wow, so many hating on the dog here. Im a big believer in there are no bad dogs just bad owners, wonder how many untrained doodles have bitten people 🤔 you sound as if you know what you're doing with dogs and are a responsible owner. If that's true then she can report all she likes but if the RSPCA etc investigate and find no cause for concern with regards to danger or neglect then I can't imagine it would go anywhere. The only thing I would be cautious about if I were your neighbour would be it being unattended in a garden if you were out of the house, but not to the extent of reporting you. But you said you've stopped this which I agree with, I would also be worried someone like this would try and poison the dog (this happened to my dad's dog) if it was left unattended and she took it upon herself to solve her issue, obviously unlikely but it can happen.

@YoureNotFromBrighton

That’s awful but are pitbulls not banned? How was she even allowed to have them here in the UK?

It’s sad that she thought it was a good idea to save a dog that had bitten a child 😔 this poor decision ending up costing her life. The previous owners were irresponsible too, they should’ve gone ahead and got it PTS.

BeardyButton · 08/08/2024 23:00

No one should be able to own dogs like this. I love dogs. I DO NOT appreciate these dogs being ANYWHERE in the vicinity of my child.

I had to pass one of these monsters on a walk recently with my son. Bloody awful. They are absolutely monstrous. What good is a lead to one of them?! What chance would my child have against one of them?

I think of myself as a live and let live type of person…. But no! I absolutely judge people who own these types of dogs.

Also - what about your kid having other kids to play. I can tell you right now my child would not be going ANYWHERE near a house with an animal like this in it. If I saw one of these when dropping to a play date I would have zero problem taking my son away and telling the parents I wouldn’t have my child in the same house. I would do the same if I knew there was a gun in the house.

I am 100 per cent on the side of your neighbour. In fact, I’m very grateful for people like her. She’s doing her bit to keep the world a bit safer for the rest of us (and your child OP).

Another anti dog person I see

no pets shouldn’t be banned ffs

what of your elderly relatives that have a dog or cat for companionship you’d deprive them of there only companion for your knee jerk attitude when that’s the only creature they can talk to as no one visits them anymore

A well trained dog of any size isn’t going to bloody maul everyone in sight you do know that.

plus this neighbour has form of anti social behaviour with all the residents in the street which is harassment and needs dealt with, with op countering every claim by reporting it right back.

How many doddles have KILLED people?

my mother has a tiny doodle. If that dog bites (which she doesn’t), you’d hardly feel it. If an xl bully bites, there’s a chance they won’t let go.

Undisclosedlocation · 08/08/2024 23:03

cocker spaniels are notoriously bad resource guarders - poodle crosses of that mix are very definitely a risk of serious aggression in many more cases than the general public would imagine if not handled correctly and trained appropriately

I don’t have any random kids at my house! I have to know the parent, spent time with them before they even knew where I lived, let alone in my house!

Not 1 of my sons friends parents have a problem with my CC and I also would never not inform a parent or anyone I was inviting to my house about the dogs I keep

No dog has that capability as lock jaw is a myth

plus any dog bite bloody hurts even from small dogs

StarDolphins · 08/08/2024 23:07

Op, you’re always going to get hysterical replies about big dogs on MN. Big dogs eat children round here.

You don’t have a banned breed, she’s well trained & under control so I would just carry on as you are. As irritating as it is, the neighbour will get tired of complaining at some point when their accusations are proven to be unfounded.

Actually I don’t! I also don’t know that any of these hideous beasts I see are “well trained”. How am I supposed to know, as a mother, that this particular vile looking monster with the power to kill is “well trained”. Same way I don’t know that the weirdo who has a concealed weapon is actually a lovely person who carries it just in case.

No thank you to “responsible gun owners” and equally no thank you to “responsible XL bully owners”. Except the bully owners are worse… at least the gun doesn’t have a mind of its own.

Technically maybe, but bull breeds are designed to bite and hold on. collies are designed to dart in nip and release. Retrievers are bred to be soft mouthed. Terriers bite and shake etc etc.
All bred by us for a specific purpose so different bite styles. This thread is ludicrously ott with people spouting utter hysteria but to deny biological facts doesn’t help

Why do you believe I just let my CC run around without a care in the world around children?

If I’m walking on a pavement and a child, parent with a buggy etc is coming towards us, I will stop, either stand aside with her sat behind me or I will even walk into the side of the road when safe to, opposite side of me where they are!

Oh come on now, that’s a reach and you know it. Legally held firearms are needed for working estates and farms, without them you’d have no crops and no food. Please read up on this before making ill informed comments. No comparison to a banned dog breed.

Responsible dog owner not xl bully or as this thread is about a cane corso

plus if your meeting an xl it’s muzzled now in public but I’ll bet you don’t know your actual breeds by your post

People also think these tiny dogs don't need training, a small dog biting a child's throat can still kill them.
All dogs should be well trained and safe, regardless of size or breed

My poodle sleeps on the end of my bed and my CC sleeps in the living room by choice

I live in a house! If I have to go upstairs for something I will take one of the dogs up with me Well all we have to go on is what you say, and you did say this ^

And also this is the UK you cannot carry a ‘concealed weapon’ legally unless you work in close protection, if you are from the US where you can, that’s another completely different kettle of fish!
