And what are the advantages of them being downstairs???

OP posts:
Setyoufree · 02/07/2023 21:48

In her crate downstairs. Means she's portable to go to friends and I keep my bed to myself.

Anewuser · 02/07/2023 21:52

When we got our boy last year, I was determined he would sleep in his crate downstairs. But we folded up the crate for space for the Christmas tree and it never went back up. So, ever since Christmas he sleeps on my bed. He has got a bed downstairs but he only sleeps on that during the day.

SeeingSpots · 02/07/2023 21:54

In a crate next to my bed, door is left open but he bloody loves his crate and would dislike being away from his people if kept downstairs. Benefit of the crate is we can take his bed anywhere.

ComeOnThenFanny · 02/07/2023 21:55

Mine have both slept in my bed since the second day I had them. They don't get under the covers anymore, it's too hot, they sleep on top at the moment. I shouldn't have done it, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I love waking up to their beautiful little happy faces ❤️

Gherkingreen · 02/07/2023 21:56

In a laundry room, on a cosy bed, with the door shut.
He's 5 now and has always slept there. He takes himself off there at about 10:30 and is still in bed when we get up any time between 6 and 8 depending on what day it is.

Reasonistreason · 02/07/2023 21:56

We have a rescue. She came to us at 18 months old already crate trained. We didn't want to change anything unnecessarily at first so kept using the crate. She now asks to go to bed (crate), runs there and waits for her bedtime biscuit!!
Around 0700 she wakes, we let her out and she runs upstairs to our bedroom, quick cuddle from us, and she settles down for first nap of the day !!

caringcarer · 02/07/2023 21:57

In the lounge in their baskets.

smilesup · 02/07/2023 21:57

On the sofa downstairs though one of them sneaks upstairs if she wants a cuddle.

IAmSalmaFuckingHayek · 02/07/2023 21:58

1 sleeps under my bed, 1 sleeps in my bed.

Allmyghosts · 02/07/2023 21:58

When I had a dog they were never willingly more than 3 feet away from me (clingy buggers) my cat could not give a shit

Niftyswiftie · 02/07/2023 21:58

In their crates in the kitchen

SirenSays · 02/07/2023 21:59

On their blankets in my bedroom. I like having them close and on the off chance of an intruder or fire I wouldn't want them shut in anywhere they couldn't get out.

whatatime · 02/07/2023 22:01

Mine have free run of the house (including our bed) but DDog1 sleeps in his bed in the lounge, and Ddog2 in his bed in the spare dog bedroom. Ddog2 often comes into our around 5am over the winter months though!

Groutyonehereagain · 02/07/2023 22:03

In her basket in the kitchen. Although when it’s hot she likes to sleep on the cooler tiles.

llangennith · 02/07/2023 22:05

Crate in the kitchen. She puts herself to bed around 10pm and I shut the crate door when I go up to bed. She's still fast asleep when I come downstairs in the morning.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/07/2023 22:09

He has his bed... it's also mine!
He did start off in a bed on my bedroom floor but as soon as he could jump, that was it
He's a sweet Westie so I don't mind

Auntieobem · 02/07/2023 22:10

Starts off in her bed beside ours, then around 5 she'll get into our bed.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 02/07/2023 22:10

On the bed with us. It's great to feel so snuggled up together.

Isitthathardtobekind · 02/07/2023 22:11

First always slept in a crate downstairs. Second started in a crate down stairs but then we moved it up to our room For a while- can’t remember why! Perhaps Christmas or something. He’s stayed in the crate in our room ever since.. mostly. He is little and quiet so we would sometimes let him on the bottom of our bed.

The 1st suddenly wouldn’t get in her crate a few days ago and ran upstairs and got in the little one’s crate in our room so now she stays there and the 2nd is on our bed!

It’s probably better to be honest as it’s been warm and we keep windows open upstairs - downstairs they are all shut at night so first dog was probably boiling in the night!

Excitedannie · 02/07/2023 22:12

I can't decide what to do. She's in a crate and I used to close the door until the weather got warm - she now has an area sectioned off. If I leave her out of the crate, she v often wees or poos and I don't know why because she is quite capable of
Holding it. Recently she's been howling at about 5am - not to go out, but to get on the sofa, or her other bed or my bed

Don't know if im over thinking it. Ideally I want her to be able to sleep downstairs wherever she likes not to do a toilet! She's 13 months

liveforsummer · 02/07/2023 22:13

Under the covers alongside my legs or by my feet. Occasionally she'll come out and lie on top or I'll wake up and she'll be lying along side me like a human with head out the top but generally prefers to be fully covered

orangeclubsarebest · 02/07/2023 22:13

In a crate in the living room. He feels safe in there and no barking at hedgehogs! After I let him out for a wee at bedtime he runs into his bed and waits for a treat then settles down for the night.

VintageThoughts · 02/07/2023 22:16

Mine sleeps in the kitchen in her bed. She gets up and wanders around and often sleeps on the doormat early on - although she's always back in bed by the time I go down in the morning.

She's an anxious little thing and pants a lot at night time if I have her upstairs which keeps me awake. She seems to like having the run of the kitchen, she likes to look for food that may have been dropped!

Babyroobs · 02/07/2023 22:27

In my bed. One tends to spoon me and one wraps herself around my feet.

hermioneee · 02/07/2023 22:33

On the bed. We both get a better night's sleep when we're together.
