He's had an upset tummy (diarrhoea) since he got here, hopefully just stress as he is fine otherwise. So we got up 4 times last night! He's on chicken and rice for his meals today.

@Citygirlrurallife we didn’t set an alarm, first few nights one of us woke up and went to check on her. Then she woke us up by crying to go out (she’s in a crate) now at 12 weeks she sleeps until nearly 6am

BeansOnToast32 · 04/09/2022 12:40

Can I join? I've had my puppy for just over a week and she's doing great. She has only had 1 wee during the night since I got her, she's getting the hang of going out during the day but feeding her is a bit of a pain. As soon as I put her bowl down, she runs and sits about 3 foot away, looks at the bowl then at me. I've tried taking away any distractions, sitting with her, feeding her in the crate, feeding her in the kitchen, all have the same outcome.

I manage to get her to eat by hand feeding her a couple of biscuits, then she will eat some out of her bowl but we will have to repeat this about 3-4 times a meal because she keeps stopping and waking off. She will eat off of the floor as well, I discovered this when she accidentally tipped over her bowl in the first 2 days I had her. Anyone got any ideas 😂 she's on the same food the breeder fed her and she eats out of a metal bowl just like she did with the breeder.

@DuaneDibbley have you tried Pro Kolin for the dodgy tum? It's always been my go to product. My pup had a dodgy tum midweek and it sorted her out in less than 2 days. You can get it from Amazon of any pet shop.

Well I am hanging today. Des decided that he would do a pooh at 2am this morning in his crate and then stomp around in it. Cue pooh Armageddon …. All over him, bed and blanket and me!!!! He then proceeded to try and eat a slug when I took him out to try for a wee before putting him back in his crate. Just as well he is cute… and I hope that has put him off slugs for life 🤣🤣
His character is beginning to show - he’s a cheeky chappy who can use his big brown eyes to guilt trip me to pick him up. Started playing with toys today and having a bit of a chomp on my fingers……
he’s currently snoozing in his crate looking like butter wouldn’t melt. 🥰

Any tips for toys that are replacements for my fingers and toes please as Nylabone not as appealing as mouthing me!

tizwozliz · 04/09/2022 16:01

You'd think after over a year of dog ownership I'd have learned to keep things out of her reach!

@BeansOnToast32 very cute! Foxpup has a bowl of kibble constantly available in her crate. She pops in and gets a mouthful when she wants.

@TheStirrer oh no! That sounds awful.

@tizwozliz dogs!! Always doing something lethal.

Acorncat1 · 04/09/2022 19:12

Hi guys,
just had a bit of a fright there. Our 5 month old lurcher, who we've had two weeks now, seems to have started resource guarding. He growled and sort of snapped at me yesterday and today when I tried to take a stone out of his mouth. Then just a few mins ago my husband tried to take a stone off him and
he was snarling and showing teeth. My husband got him by collar and held him to the ground so he couldn't bite him. Otherwise, he seems very placid and calm. I'm very worried.

Acorncat1 · 04/09/2022 19:13

Do we need to send him back to the rescue place?! Our older dog, 15 years, had this problem too and we managed it years ago. We're just so deflated..

Aria20 · 04/09/2022 19:54

@Acorncat1 I wouldn't worry yet, it's early days. Teach "drop it" and in the meantime offer a treat/toy as a swap rather than taking stones out of mouth which could make them swallow it rather than give it to you!

Acorncat1 · 04/09/2022 20:39

Thanks! The stones are very small so it's hard to get him to spit out! We will teach drop. It was just such a fright, he was snapping and growling at my husband. I'm going to get a trainer to work with us on it.

Aria20 · 04/09/2022 20:42

@Acorncat1 they do grow out of stealing stones, mine used to do this and also once we started giving treats for swapping stones, she'd steal them and show me in order to get a treat lol. Try to remove opportunities to get stones as much as possible to stop the habit.

Acorncat1 · 04/09/2022 20:57

Problem is half our garden has stones down!!!

Aria20 · 04/09/2022 21:01

@Acorncat1 short lead in garden/close supervision. We had to do this for a long time not just due to stones but constant digging/trying to eat plants!

Riverlee · 04/09/2022 21:12

River Pup is home.

River Pup is settling in well, slept in his crate earlier, explored everywhere and has gained confidence as the day gone on.

However, he also likes stones! We’re having to be vigilant. Dh has become expert at removing them - I’m more cautious.

Basically let him settle in today, and find his feet.

Acorncat1 · 04/09/2022 22:02

Sounds horrendous! The things we cope with for our puppies 😂 hopefully Des has put himself off pooing in his crate forever!

Autumn101 · 05/09/2022 09:42

@tizwozliz after wrestling Lego out of mines mouth this morning I was wondering when the random grabbing of objects would end but maybe I’ve a while to go yet 😂
