Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, we're doing pretty much all of that. Hopefully he'll get the hang of it soon...

Aww @Acorncat1 how cute does he look ❤️

tizwozliz · 01/09/2022 22:24

We are bad dog parents, both a bit under the weather with covid and pup got no lunch today. Only realised when I was opening her food for tea. And yesterday lunch was 3 hours late, oops.

Well done Nugget and acorn dog. Hope you’re feeling better soon @tizwozliz

foxpup had her second jabs yesterday so 6 days until we can take her out. House training is pretty good. It doesn’t feel like we’ve got bomb that may go off now. She only has an indoor accident if we’ve let her onto a carpet or misjudged the times. Recall good for me (I have the treats) hit and miss for dc/dh (no treats) I’ve told everyone to put treats in their pockets. Overall I’m loving having a dog again. She’s very happy and confident, the breeder was right so far she’s not been scared of anything.

It's a good job I love my gorgeous puppy as I am soo knackered today! After thinking we were moving past the midnight trip out to the toilet, we got up at 4am (wee), 4.40am (poo...why not just go while up at 4am!) and finally up for the day at 5.45 😴😴

Toilet training otherwise going well after a slight regression earlier in the week. But no poos inside the house for over a week!

She has been allowed on walks for a week now and we have discovered she loves the beach and anywhere with grass and sunshine for running around on her extendable lead. Recall is 50/50 at the moment, depends if something much more exciting (like a bird!) is around. But after initial confidence on walks she's started being a bit hesitant at the start of a walk from the house. Sometimes have to carry her a short distance to get her over the hump. Once she's been going for a bit she gets into her stride and is usually really happy as soon as we reach a grassy area and will then walk fine all the way home.

No real point to this long ramble, just need to say it to people who know what it's all about!

@tizwozliz you poor things, am sure pup was fine.....these things happen 🙂Hope you are soon on the mend.
@Foxgloveleaf and @Isthislife such gorgeous pups!! they are all doing so well and funny how different they all are too!
Nugget had her first off lead experience on a deserted playing field yesterday. I just went for it, and with chicken in my hand and a ball - she was great! I have a long line and will try again with that over the weekend I think as she was ok - very few distractions though and she ADORES people and birds so definitely plenty of escape triggers in a seaside town!!

DMCWelshcakes · 02/09/2022 12:59

First class at puppy school for DiddyDoggo today. I'm thinking of buying shares in a hot dog sausages company. 😁

I think it went well though. Lots to practise.

Nugg · 02/09/2022 19:55

@DMCWelshcakes I must buy them altho nugget is thrilled with cheap cooked chicken 🤢 turns her nose up at regular treats now!!!

We start on Tuesday. I think I'll be as exhausted as she will 😆

Riverlee · 02/09/2022 20:46

48 hours to River Pup comes home. Eek! My first full time dog, although we have looked after friend’s (very placid) dog before.

In the Labrador book we have, it says to take of collers when in crates, as they could get caught. Does anyone do this? Do you keep the coller on all the time?

Riverlee · 02/09/2022 20:47

@Foxgloveleaf pup is lovely.

@Isthislife what sort if pup is here?

Foxgloveleaf · 02/09/2022 20:54

@Riverlee we haven’t taken her collar off, but if we haven’t left her for long yet. Next week she’s going to be in her crate for a few hours so will take her collar off to be on the safe side. Good luck with your puppy arrival!

TheStirrer · 02/09/2022 21:39

Have picked up my very cute 8 week rescue cocker spaniel pup and literally he has whined all day! He is completely overtired - didn’t even sleep on the 1.5 hour journey home…. I have taken him for a wee, given him a chew and cuddly toy and popped him in the crate and closed the door…
What have I done 😵😵😵😵 - please tell me it will get easier!

TheStirrer · 02/09/2022 21:40

Better add a pic of Des as I think that’s the rule 🤣

Riverlee · 02/09/2022 21:50

Des is Adorable.

DuaneDibbley · 03/09/2022 06:27

Heading off in a minute to pick up our new puppy! Very excited but a bit worried about how my grumpy resident ddog will react.

TheStirrer · 03/09/2022 10:04

Well we survived our first night with Des - hubby took him for a wee at 12.30 and I did a 3am wee trip with him. A bit of whining each time but eventually settled.
He was awake and full of beans at 5.30 am though so no more sleep for us….
Now just need to crack toilet training - more peeing and pooing indoors than out at the mo . Good job I bought a shed load of blue paper rolls 🤣
Good luck with the puppy pick up @DuaneDibbley

ilovesushi · 03/09/2022 10:18

Des is an absolute sweetie! Glad the first night went well. Hopefully the weather will hold for all of you with brand new pups tackling the toilet training!

Good luck @DuaneDibbley !

Foxgloveleaf · 03/09/2022 11:16

Good luck new puppy parents! I think the darker mornings will help us all to keep these pups asleep. I’m not getting up before 5:45am usually now. House training still on going. Just did a massive unexpected wee in-the house unfortunately. The dc hadn’t waited long enough and fetched her in too early.

Looking forward to getting out with her next week. How did everyone tackle meeting other dogs on walks? Any tips greatly appreciated.

DuaneDibbley · 03/09/2022 11:56

He's home and crashed out already!

Aw @DuaneDibbley so lovely - what’s his name?

@TheStirrer Des is so cute, that’s lovely you were able to find a puppy to rescue! I’m sure he’ll settle in in no time.

we collect Haku, our golden retriever puppy, a week on Monday so currently spending a small fortune on all sorts of bits and pieces for him!

DuaneDibbley · 03/09/2022 13:12

His name is Moss

Nugg · 03/09/2022 13:35

Oh so exciting to pick an new pup up!! They are beautiful and make Nugget seem huge at 14 weeks!

TheStirrer · 03/09/2022 13:38

Lovely name and pup @DuaneDibbley.
Des currently flaked in crate so going to try and make myself a very quiet lunch!
@Citygirlrurallife - yes take out a second mortgage! There’s nothing you can’t seem to get for a dog (bit like babies!)

Autumn101 · 04/09/2022 10:21

Oh look at these cute pups!!! I found the first weeks so so hard but my god I want another one now 😂 DH has said an absolute no for at least another year, spoil sport.

We had a great week away, calmness and steadiness is really starting to improve. He was fab at settling in pubs and in the holiday cottage and generally was just lovely. To make up for it he’s ripped up his new bed while I was in the shower this morning, oh well!!

Citygirlrurallife · 04/09/2022 11:42

Love that name @DuaneDibbley

so when you first get them and toilet training etc, do you set an alarm in the night and wake them up to go out to the loo or do you wait for them to stir?
