Or a rabbit, or a goldfish, or a cuddly toy.

I’m joining! Lady to the letter came home 2 weeks ago and I’m in full on puppy regret today.

She’s adorable but just not getting toilet training 😭😭 my poor carpets

trappedsincesundaymorn · 23/11/2021 15:06

Nooo don't get a hamster. I made that mistake and it cost me a new sofa, 3 new landline phones, anew internal door and a carpet. The dog puppy was a lot easier to deal with. Grin

trappedsincesundaymorn · 23/11/2021 15:07

Dog puppy? Puppy (obviously it was a dog).

SirChenjins · 23/11/2021 16:21

Love dog puppy Grin

cheeseisthebest · 23/11/2021 16:50

No the bit about needing wees was when people didn't work from home as much. So if you left your puppy for 8 or 9 hours what happened about going to the toilet.
I have bought dog calming spray and now my family are moaning how much it stinks. Its essential oils. I mean FFS I feel like just letting them all deal with it as everything I do they just moan about it! Angry

certainshepherdpups · 23/11/2021 17:00

Any chance of pictures of the new pups?

Here is mine.

WomblingKnobhead · 23/11/2021 17:57

Thanks for the new thread, I'd fallen off the last one a while ago. I'm not sure AwesomePup really counts as a puppy as he's almost 8 months and definitely an adolescent now. The photo is him enjoying a nap on his new bed which I bought after a recommendation on the last thread. It's like a mattress!!! 11yo dd2 can lie on it quite comfortably and says it's nicer than her own bed.

He's doing quite well with recall and at the weekend was successfully coming back even from playing with another dog. That's only with the whistle though, calling his name doesn't get such a good recall. The whistle recall is always celebrated with a massive fuss and brilliant treats (a squirt of Primula or some chopped up hot dogs). It's well worth coming back for the whistle. I love being able to go out and let him off lead safe in the knowledge that he WILL come back when I need him to. I had to take him to a pet shop (WCF @GuyFawkesDay) on Saturday to try on bigger harnesses, and we discovered that he really, really loves shops. It was all exciting and he managed to eat several chews from bottom shelves as we went round (I offered to pay for them but the woman laughed and said not to worry). He sat nicely to try on his bigger harness though because he was happily eating a stolen chew and allowed the people who work there and a child customer to stroke him as long as they had treats 🤦. He's incredibly food motivated and I do worry that he would go anywhere with anybody as long as they had plenty of treats lol.

It was a daycare day today (that's how people get puppies when everyone works outside the house), so he's absolutely exhausted and won't need a walk this evening.

Ada would go off with anyone even without treats I think, she shows no loyalty at all!

certainshepherdpups · 23/11/2021 18:11

@cheeseisthebest he is an Aussie. I’m a sucker for herding breeds. My last dog was a border collie cross.

WomblingKnobhead · 23/11/2021 18:13

@LadyCatStark no just the yawning one!

@MsAwesomeDragon we have the same bed and we're saying we can use it for visitors at Christmas 🤣

I'm thinking of trying daycare again but only availability is one with lots of dogs in a big specially built playbarn. It's either heaven for dogs or a disaster depending on your pov. It's also 30 mins in wrong direction so an hours drive to drop off. I'd rather go for something more low key but no availabilities

Here’s my beautiful nightmare.

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/11/2021 18:21

Our daycare is on the way to work, so that's ok. It is one with up to 30 dogs in a playbarn, but they have several separate pens so they can keep dogs with different temperaments separate (AwesomePup is in the pen with all the other boisterous pups who enjoy rough and tumble). Pup thinks it's heaven, he obviously enjoys going there, and they know and love all the dogs they look after.

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/11/2021 18:41

@Nordstrom we had bad table manners. I bought tiny kibble and kept it in a pot on table. We say ‘on your mat’ and as soon as he lays down mark it (click or “yes!”) and place small piece of kibble between legs. We kept paying with kibble fairly frequently at first and can now extend gaps. We had trained it once before but had got out of habit. You can initially do it for really short time eg cup of tea and biscuit then longer and build. Found he picked it up quickly and we did it consistently and we went to a cafe at a NT place and as we were getting ready to sit down he lay straight down and then looked expectantly at us 🤣🤣🤣

Haha so would Billy @tizwozliz, we always joke that if a burglar came in he’d run up, wagging his tail, with his favourite toy in his mouth to show them 😂.

Billy would actually adore daycare but there’s only one round here and it’s really expensive considering we don’t actually need it.

tizwozliz · 23/11/2021 18:50

At one of our training classes the trainer tried to do demos with two different dogs and they both just wanted to run back to their mums so she gave up and used Ada instead!

Stretchandsnap · 23/11/2021 18:52

Joining as I have had stretch-pup for exactly a week and I am broken. He cried like a lunatic for the first 5 nights so I slept with him on the sofa but didn’t actually sleep. I am home alone and trying to work whist he destroys the house around me and dragging him round in a bag up and down a MASSIVE hill on the school run like a mad dog lady. I literally can’t wait till Monday when he can start walking a bit.

Just as well he’s lovely…

GuyFawkesDay · 23/11/2021 18:54

FawkesPup is exactly the same. Wuffsand growls at strangers coming near the house but as soon as they come in he's rolling over for tummy tickles. Big soft lump.

He's also a gannet. Will do anything for food.

He's done lots of field based fun today, including flushing 4 pheasants out the ditch in the field. He was well pleased with himself. He also point blank refused to leave his favourite cafe but I'd snaffled half a sausage and bribed him to loose lead walk most of the way home with chunks of it. He's too smart by far!!

Here's the toad!

Aria20 · 23/11/2021 19:00

@LadyCatStark unfortunately hot dogs or sausages or chicken or ham aren't even exciting enough to come away from other dogs for!! Cheese gives her upset tummy lol. She is very quick to learn everything else and enjoys treats at home but other dogs are way better.... bought some sprats today Confused hopefully they'll be the magic recall treat!!

SirChenjins · 23/11/2021 19:01

This is Freddy looking like butter wouldn’t melt. Don’t be fooled.

Lovely new pups and older pups. Its funny reading the new posts. Part of me sighs that we have moved on so much from those days but some of me sighs that bits haven't moved on enough

I'm sleeping on the sofa tonight because I can't stand the grump husband. I am interested to see if her sleeps through or still needs to go in the garden. I cantvreally argue because he goes straight out, does his stuff and straight back to bed BUT still toileting at night. He's 6 months in a couple of weeks 😭
