Or a rabbit, or a goldfish, or a cuddly toy.

I've got a lamb bone from the butchers for 5mo pup... views please....

I suspect she is officially too young but has a full set of adult gnashers at the front, and isn't a super-powerful-chewer, so I'm not overly worried about her remaining baby teeth. Is this reckless and should I freeze them? I think she will be delighted with it.

Goawayangryman · 24/11/2021 15:20

Sorry by "should I freeze them" I meant, should I keep them for a later date, not "should I give them to her frozen". facepalm

WomblingKnobhead · 24/11/2021 17:58

Hopefully vaccine will mean he has a milder form (but you're still stuck at home with it 🥴)

First real day of being left.....

I left house at 7.15am, DD at 6.30am and Dh leaving at 1.55pm.
DD and me both home about 3.30pm. So an hour and a half home alone.

He chews and steals shoes and generally destroys.... so the carefully agreed plan was shut in hallway. All doors to be shut, laundry airer blocking off access to upstairs and part of hallway with shoes, wellies etc. (Shoe mecca)) A plug in chemical soother was plugged in and I'd prepped his holes with treats. Ostrich bone etc all available to be put next to his bed. Terrier to be shut in another room so they don't end up fighting because pup will not leave her alone.

So H leaves at 1.55pm leaving back door unlocked, bathroom x 2 doors ajar, bedroom x 2 ajar, lounge, dining room and kitchen free access, no laundry airers so access to shoe mecca and both dogs running free. Im an hours drive away when I spot this on the camera, race home.....Terrier looked traumatised. Pup looked like he was having a come down from amphetamine overdose, hats everywhere, shoes all over the house and DDs brand new winter slipper boots chewed through.

I can't speak to him

@Goawayangryman my pup had them. Not sure what the risk is but we survived that along with the Yew berries he keeps snuffling on our walk. Don't Google...its terrifying

WomblingKnobhead ShockShockShock What has your H (I’ll leave out the D hit, because I suspect you’re not feeling the love right now) got to say for himself?! If it’s any consolation I could see mine doing the same.

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/11/2021 18:16

@WomblingKnobhead I’d have been fuming if that was me, but reading your description made me giggle “hats everywhere” 🤣🤦‍♀️ SORRY!

Goawayangryman · 24/11/2021 18:20

Oh my god. I'd be so furious!

Goawayangryman · 24/11/2021 18:21

And thanks re the bone. I'm going for it.

😂🤠🥸 if you want to get ahead...get a hat

Bobble hats, sun hats, wide brimmed keep the rain from running down your neck waxed hat....luckily it was DH's that took the brunt.

I know it's just one of those things but what was he thinking!!!! I drove new car into a road sign (reversing) at the weekend. Maybe this was his revenge

@WomblingKnobhead oh my god what a nightmare! Hope the other hats and shoes are salvageable! I bet pup had a field day with access to all the forbidden items!

Goawayangryman · 24/11/2021 19:26

I'm guessing that's not a mistake he will make again.... ;)

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/11/2021 19:57

It’s an impressive collection of hats!

Goawayangryman · 24/11/2021 21:41

Oh god. I thought I was winning on separation anxiety but I've had to leave my evening activity early owing to crazy barking crying puppy. Going for an hour, properly distressed. She was fine the last two times. Am on own and if she can't be left even for a couple of hours I am literally a prisoner Shock

SirChenjins · 24/11/2021 21:46

I feel like that too Goawayangryman - I can’t even go into the next room without him crying and barking Sad. My plan for the next month is to work on that and I have a trainer coming on Monday so will ask her about the best way to manage the separation anxiety. We’ll have to progress this because we’re all going a bit stir crazy, and really need to get to the point where we can leave him for a little while.

Anyone else having a similar problem - and if so, what are you doing to overcome it?

cheeseisthebest · 24/11/2021 22:21

Yup. Puppy loves me best, follows me everywhere, barks if I leave the room, constantly looks to check I'm there. Cries when I put him to bed cos wants me to lie with him, could go on.
I've left him on his own 4 times, each time for about 20 minutes. He barked the whole time. Dog behaviourist said I've got to go right back to the beginning. Aargh!!

GuyFawkesDay · 25/11/2021 06:45

Oh no! That's tough @cheeseisthebest but hopefully you can get results with a "fresh start" on it. It's so stressful feeling like you can't leave them because they'll howl or whine or bark. I couldn't even go for the toilet or a shower. He still has days like this but can be distracted out of it now. Velcro dogs 🙄

SirChenjins · 25/11/2021 07:53

Dog behaviourist said I've got to go right back to the beginning

What did they mean by that? I'm at the beginning with Fred, so hopefully there's time before my velcro dog becomes permanently fixed to my leg.

Aria20 · 25/11/2021 07:57

Have you tried leaving them somewhere different in the house when you go out? Sometimes they can hear other noises etc. Or leaving tv/radio on? Mine would bark sometimes if left in kitchen as she could hear next doors dog who was howling in there! Plus she could hear if post man came but couldn't see who it was so she'd be barking as she was scared or whatever.

Now I leave her in my sons room, which is where she sleeps at night so she's comfortable in there, it's at front of house so she can see if someone is at the door who it is and it's also the opposite side of the house to the howling dog lol! I watch on camera and she now tends to just sleep rather than pace about like she did in the kitchen.

Aria20 · 25/11/2021 07:59

@GuyFawkesDay beef is def an issue here... after a week of no beef tried some beef wet food on top of kibble last night to use up last tin.... oh my god toxic clear the room fumes! Confused and she was scratching biting herself so def no more beef!

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/11/2021 09:42

@cheeseisthebest remind me how old your pup is again sorry?

PoirotPup is 9 months and we did it by first of all doing the flitting game around the house fairly often until he would sometimes stay in one room, or even take himself to a different room to sleep. Don't get me wrong if the babygate to the kitchen is opened he's usually there in a flash, but the regular few minutes of being boring often did help.

Then we identified that he usually had a lovely longish sleep in the morning from 9 - 10.30 pretty reliably most days. He was about 5 months and circumstances meant he needed to be left for 5-10 minutes one day about that time so we tried it and watched him on the camera and he just went to sleep in his usual place. When I came back I sat out in the car for a while to see how he got on and after 30 minutes came in as he was clearly fine.

Then we used to do it a bit more regularly, but making sure we tried to mix up a bit who left in what order and for how long - and putting in lots of fairly short times so we built the knowledge that we always came back. Then we built in some longer periods - where we were at someone's house maybe 5/10 minute drive away and we'd keep an eye let him wake up and make sure we came back before any distress.

Now as long as we have exercised him, fed him, made sure he has gone to toilet we can leave him pretty I'd say for up to three hours (although it is usually closer to 2 max). We put on classic fm to help cut out some of the background noise outside. Make sure everything is safely out of reach etc.. and have the camera's to check on him. If we are going to be somewhere it would take longer than 30 minutes to come back we do have a neighbour who would pop in for an emergency!

I know for some people building it up from the start works, in really small increments, but for us leaving it until he was older, really secure with us and the house I think worked well. We're moving back home soon, so of course it could all go to pot in a new place!!!!!

Goawayangryman · 25/11/2021 10:10

That is the approach I've been using, but I think I may have got ahead of myself and left her too long. I'm def going to put the radio on next time, and possibly also put her in the front room away from the foxes and cats that frequent the side return and back garden area and shit all over everything

cheeseisthebest · 25/11/2021 11:17

Thank you. He csn be absolutely fast asleep snoring but as soon as I go to the door he jumps up and runs over!

pardonmytits · 25/11/2021 11:26

Never a dull moment. Epic toddler tantrums all morning and then Nova just got her head stuck fast in a heavy ceramic jug. Had to break it against the wall to get rid of the bottom and then a neighbour saw our plight and helped hold her still while I tapped the collar bit that was left with a hammer to try to break it off. The noise made her jump just enough for her head to pop out - not the plan but I’ll take it. She’s absolutely fine and currently chewing a pizzle. I need a lie down in a dark room. Jesus.

Goawayangryman · 25/11/2021 11:47

That's quite funny @pardonmytits although I appreciate it will not have been for you. Evil laugh here. Sorry! Hope it wasn't a precious jug.

pardonmytits · 25/11/2021 11:58

goawayangryman It was ridiculous - and quite funny now it’s over. I really liked the jug, but I like her silly self more. The aftermath…
