Like if you're out and you see a dog - what dog would make you stop and stare?

For me it's a pure black or pure white standard poodle properly clipped out. I think they're gorgeous.

two and three

My df had an Irish Setter. Gorgeous ddogs.

Whitney168 · 20/11/2021 19:31

Those getting excited about Briands should note that the breed is the Briard.

We get loads of attention with the Rough Collies too. One of mine is a beautifully coloured and marked blue merle, and it’s a rare walk when I don’t get people commenting on him.

Saluki. Also I once fell over when I saw a REAL LIVE BLOODHOUND while out for a run.

@ANameChangeAgain

The working breeds for me. Nothing as beautiful as a Hungarian Vizsla, but German Shorthaired Pointers are also lovely. They are no good for working anymore sadly, as they are bred more for showing, but English Setters are beautiful. Dalmatians are stunning, but I need a gundog, so again no good for me. I always say I don't like flat faced, poodle cross or bull breeds, but honestly put any dog on my knee and I'm happy.
I have to agree with thinking German Shorthaired Pointers are the most stunning dog, but I have to say that as I have one 🙂. I don't understand why they're not better known but they're not an easy breed to own so always get excited when we meet another!

I once followed an Afghan hound for several blocks in Florence because I could not get over how beautiful it was… hope its owners didn’t notice me being creepy!

Also obsessed with samoyeds, German and Japanese spitzes, keeshund, Eurasiers. Oh and shiba inus!

ragged · 20/11/2021 19:43

Huge dogs. "All that poo!" thoughts.
Any happy dog, otherwise.

Sd352 · 20/11/2021 19:45

Oh and yes old English sheepdogs. There are a few near us and always a pleasure to see. And gigantic dogs like Leonbergers or Bernese Mountain Dogs (but not keen on St Bernards because one bit my childhood dog).

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 20/11/2021 19:46

Red setters. You don't see them very often and they're just beautiful

Santaischeckinglists · 20/11/2021 19:47

My dgm loved Afghans.
Why is an Afghan called an Afghan? One bite and Afghans ya hand!
Grin
Bless her!!

Our little maltipoo is, in my respectful opinion, the cutest dog on earth.

He is also Mr. Personality and greets everyone with a wildly wagging tail. He gets endless comments about how cute he is every time I take him for a walk.

Love him to bits!

The agility club I went to had an Afghan hound - wow, absolutely stunning flowing hair!
Leonbergers, Newfies, wolf hounds ... It's all the big breeds for me :-)

SourMilkGhyll · 20/11/2021 19:52

My own dog, mentioned by previous posters, and fairly uncommon results in some very slow walks sometime whilst people talk about her.

MintyGreenDream · 20/11/2021 20:01

Me.and dh once crossed the road to speak to the owner of his striking dog,a Thai Ridgeback. It looked like a regal silver statue.

uhohspaghettiohh · 20/11/2021 20:01

Border terriers. Just love them.

LMBoston · 20/11/2021 20:02

Argh @Ethelfromnumber73, BORDER PATROL! They are cracking wee dogs (although an Irish Wolfhound is my lottery-win dog… along with the country estate that must of course come with him). My BT is the most helpful ie nosy dog I know. He must be involved in everything or he looks even more accusatory than he does normally. Here he is “helping” with a restoration project!

cjpark · 20/11/2021 20:03

Leonbergers, bermese, newfies. Probably because I could never deal with practicalities of a dog of that size.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 20/11/2021 20:06

@LMBoston he's a beaut ❤️

Gotaprettypup · 20/11/2021 20:07

Any cute dogs...but a particular affection for bigger fluffy dogs Grin
Totally outing but I use this username for this purpose Wink We get a lot of attention when we are out and about.

It's not really my kind of pursuit, and if I got a lurcher I think I'd want one of the small rabbity ones, but I was out for a walk in rural Wales once and saw a beautiful, tall, lean, rock hard fit foxing lurcher in full flight down a field leap a barbed wire fence in his stride at the bottom. The fence was about 4ft high and I'd say he gave it nearly another foot, effortlessly. It's what the phrase "poetry in motion" was invented for. He was halfway across the next field by the time I picked my jaw off the floor.

Inacountrygarden · 20/11/2021 20:12

Border terriers for sure! Love all dogs though

I love watching greyhounds and lurchers run. I have a lurcher but she’s a total goofball and has a twist in her gait but I still love to watch her in full flight. That first run when you let her off the lead at the beach is just awesome. Not so awesome when she aims straight for me in a game of chicken Grin
