That's right, you make the best decisions you can based on all factors, nobody can say for underlying genetic predispositions that aren't well known for the breed.

Pup makes me smile so much.... this morning we walked a route we sometimes go with dd and dd balances along a low wall and pup copies her. Today pup hopped up and balanced along the whole wall by herself then hopped down at the end looking very pleased with herself!

GuyFawkesDay · 12/11/2021 13:27

That's so cute. Mine is such a sweet boy (despite the shark tendencies at the moment). Started taking himself off to bed and huffs as he lies down like am old man, its really funny. He is generally really calm and loving these days with mad bitey witching hours, rather than the other way round.

I do wish he'd get over his need to be with me....or DH would just let him sleep on the bed!

bargelights · 12/11/2021 14:59

Aww, that is adorable @Aria20.

My puppy has also been a real sweetheart lately. He is definitely teething but his nipping has lessened of late and evenings are generally much calmer. I'm bracing myself for adolescence in a couple of months, though!

tizwozliz · 12/11/2021 16:01

My puppy ripped a hole in my jacket at dog training Angry

Goawayangryman · 12/11/2021 17:01

@tizwozliz a no-doubt proud moment.. :)

I've broken mine. We had an unauthorised long walk with a friend and she has been asleep for 4 hours and counting.

LadyCatStark · 12/11/2021 17:40

@Aria20 that’s very cute!

We’ve had a bit of a break through this week. Billy has been much more careful around other dogs and has waited for me to say he can play with them or come back to me if they’re on a lead. Today we unexpectedly came upon a chocolate lab with an elderly owner as we came around a corner on the woods and Billy stopped. I called him back and he came straight back and we were only 20m ish away from the other dog! The other owner explained that he dog like to get erm… amorous with black dogs and thanked me for putting him on his lead and they had a little nose sniff.

He’s also got much better at heel and steady and has started heeling off the lead if there’s a sniff of a treat. He’s a smart cookie though as he’ll run a bit ahead and then stop and look at me to call him so that he can come back and get a treat or just start heeling and look at me like “I’ll have my treat now please” 😂.

LadyCatStark · 12/11/2021 17:43

Oh and we went to Pets at Home to get a poppy for his collar as DS has an army cadet parade on Sunday and he got a new Mr Snake (as the old one is now half a snake), a very cute dinosaur teddy that he has already ripped 🙈, some dried duck treats and some reindeer ears that he is not quite so pleased with…

To be fair to her, as well as ripping my jacket, she did a lovely demo of sitting on and coming back to her placeboard for the rest of the class. Our trainer even dropped her lead and she stuck with the exercise, I would have taken a bet on her running off to say hello to 7 new dog friends!

@LadyCatStark - before I saw the pic I was thinking reindeer ears to eat, the perfect doggy Christmas gift, chomping on Rudolph! I saw venison legs when I was last ordering chews but wasn't sure I could handle one strewn about the floor.

Aria20 · 12/11/2021 18:31

Here she is lol. She was very good today on school run, haven't taken her for ages and it was busy but she didn't try to jump up on anyone and walked along nicely, sat to let scooters and buggies go past.

@tizwozliz there’s a whole pic n mix section of legs, feet, hooves and various other body parts at our local pet shop. I have steered him away from the legs so far though 🤢. The most exotic thing he’s had has been a buffalo ear with hair on which he loved but I couldn’t bring myself to touch it! There weren’t many natural chews at Pets at Home, just empty shelves and I don’t trust the coloured, fake looking things so that’s why he only got the duck thingys.

Aria20 · 12/11/2021 18:37

@LadyCatStark both the pets at home near us have had barely any natural chews either for months! I got a paddy whack for pup that she's been throwing around and bowing at!

Aria20 · 12/11/2021 18:54

I can't bring myself to buy the hairy animal ears.... do they smell any better than the plain ones? Pup wasn't keen on rabbit ears, but has enjoyed lambs, goats, cows and pigs non haired though lol what about lamb muscle meat and camel skin/scalp has anyone had those for pups if so how bad is the smell - based on lamb braid being ok and beef tails being vomit inducing lol

cheeseisthebest · 12/11/2021 19:17

I just gave mine a rabbit ear, gross and now I have no idea where he's put it. I left him for 2 seconds and it's disappeared!
Also today he's gone nuts at 2 female dogs. Barking, running after them (I dropped the lead!).

LadyCatStark · 12/11/2021 20:03

@Aria20 the buffalo ear stank. The rabbits ear… well it didn’t last long enough for me to notice! The worst part was, as Billy was trotting home along the path next to the stream behind our house, a group of wild rabbits popped up and I felt so guilty!

LadyCatStark · 12/11/2021 20:04

Oh and not heard of camel skin/ scalp (well obviously I’ve heard of it but not as a dog treat 😂) but deer skin doesn’t smell.

GuyFawkesDay · 12/11/2021 20:12

Mine LOVES buffalo or camel skin. Lasts ages. He also likes the ostrich braids and they last an evening of chomping too.

He's being a little sh*t tonight so about to go for a quick 10 minute block walk to hit the resent button. Here's the little toad begging for sausages

Aria20 · 12/11/2021 20:17

@GuyFawkesDay begging face...he is sitting so nicely lol. Does the camel skin stink? I'm imagining it's awful!
@LadyCatStark lol at all the rabbits... I do feel a bit eww at the dead animal parts but I guess it's instinct for them and circle of life etc. I saw a whole turkey leg with claw in pets at home and I thought Confused

cheeseisthebest · 12/11/2021 20:23

Omg where is the rabbits ears!!

cheeseisthebest · 12/11/2021 20:23

Ear

Aria20 · 12/11/2021 20:26

@cheeseisthebest if mine doesn't finish a chew in a sitting, she hides it under her bed Grin

cheeseisthebest · 12/11/2021 20:29

He hasn't really got a bed just a blanket! I gave up on a bed cos he prefers the carpet to sleep on!
I have turned my house upside down looking for it!!

tizwozliz · 12/11/2021 20:37

Hope the evening reset walk works @GuyFawkesDay We've started doing a 10/15 min on lead pavement walk on days where we haven't had a walk after work and it's much easier than an hour of chew distraction.

Made the mistake of sitting down and getting trapped under a pup before getting a glass of wine 🍷 though.

GuyFawkesDay · 12/11/2021 20:39

Well FawkesPup finishes a rabbits ear in about 2 minutes so I suspect in his tummy??!!

The buffalo and camel don't really smell at all. I need hit the market stall tomorrow and get some more!

@Aria20 he always sits nicely when he thinks there's might be good in the offing 😆😆😆

GuyFawkesDay · 12/11/2021 20:40

@tizwozliz he has had 15 minutes in the park at 7 am, 20 minutes to school and back at 9am, a long sleep, 35 minutes field and private road and now a round the block sniffy walk. He's now crashed out, thank God!!!
